This place is exactly what I was looking for. I'm not a snowboarding snob and I don't care about the latest fashions - I just want something that works, looks good, and doesn't cost me a fortune, which is precisely what I got here.
I had been on the hunt for pants. Pants that matched my new fancy jacket. I had two requirements: a minimal design and preferably light coloured. (I had some specific Orage pants in mind, but I was flexible) I went to the five stores between Burrard and Pine, but left quite unimpressed. Either minimal/solid colour selection or their pants were all over the place and very difficult to find (not to mention the employees, but I'll talk about that later). Finally, I remembered seeing a sign that said these people had snowboarding gear, so I gave it one last shot and came here.
A bit of an odd setup - when you walk in the door, it's similar to a basement and they don't get in your face and greet you. For a more quiet person like me, I really appreciated that, since I enjoy browsing at my leisure. What I found was a wide selection. Big pants, small pants, solid colour pants, minimal pattern, contrasting pattern, so I was feeling a bit more confident in this store than the previous ones. They also had a selection upstairs, which is where I found my guilty pleasure pants. They don't match my jacket as well as they should, but I've always always always wanted that style of pants, so I grabbed them and went on my way. Unfortunately, they did not have my size in the gloves that I wanted, but you can't have everything and it is all on sale. Having said that, they do have a larger selection than most for gloves, but I'm just really picky.
Finally, I grabbed some goggles and throughout this whole process Dan was very helpful in advising me on which ones would be best for me and what I can do to help minimize some of the problems I've been having with my gear in the past. In some of the other stores I went in, I felt out of place or like the employees think they're the most awesome snowboarders around, but here, I was definitely treated as an equal (even though I clearly knew so much less than they did) and it made a huge difference. -

I needed a hiking backpack and thought I scored when I jumped on a groupon for this place that advertised all sorts of great outdoor gear. I was wrong. The groupon could only be used on non sale items, which would have been fine, except for the fact that the price on everything in the store was jacked up so high that the sale price was what the normal price should have been, rendering the groupon useless.
I think the sales rep expended the vast majority of his day's energy by moving his head two inches when we walked in and said hi to him. If we hadn't said hi, I don't think our existence would have been acknowledged at all.
I think I could have spent the entire day in the upstairs section of the store without someone coming up and asking me if i needed help. So I finally picked out a pack on my own, paid (ended up being the same price as without the groupon), and got the hell out of there. -

I had a bike problem. And while these guys don't claim to be bike repair people, I gave it a shot. It was a borrowed bike, the saddle was stuck five times higher than I needed it (tall friend), and I had no oil or tools or anything to budge it with. So I walked in and asked these guys for a favor, and promised them some cash if they could successfully move the stupid seat down.
They gave it their best, and they were really friendly. Hooked us up with a bike rental while they worked on my bike so that we could venture out on our ride. All in all, the saddle was really fused and refused to budge, but I'm grateful these guys were nice enough to put some muscle into it and help. -

I'm going the full 5-stars on this place after spending a day with a friend shopping for snowboard gear. We did the entire 'snowboard alley' of W 4th and this place had by far the best deals.
Not only were the prices better to begin with, they also carried more classic styles and colours in jackets and pants that suited my friend's fashion tastes. The staff were really helpful picking out a snowboard that was a great price, European-made and would last him for years. The graphics were pretty sweet, too. The board was freshly waxed and they set it up with the bindings in-store.
In addition to already low prices and some sale items, the staff cut my friend a deal since he was buying a bunch of gear. It was the cherry on top!
This shop also has non-snow-related sporting gear on the second floor. -

West Coast Sports is a good spot to fulfill any of your sporting needs. Located right at the end of the Granville Street ramp that leads onto Fourth Avenue, this is the first of many sports-oriented shops in the neighbourhood.
They have a wide selection of snowboards, binding, boots and any other kind of equipment you may need for your snowbound adventures. Adorning the walls are skateboards as well as some protective gear. They also carry a range of accessories and apparel (gloves, goggles, jackets bicycle baskets).
The staff was very friendly and patient (they kindly offered to setup my bike basket since I would have had no means to do it myself as I don't own any tools). They also have regular sales throughout the season. -

Everything is always on sale, don't be fooled. They specialize in selling last season's leftovers for more than they're worth (there's a reason nobody bought it last year....).
This store decided to use Groupons to rip off potential new customers - Went in today, the item I wanted was $179 without groupon and $250 with groupon (so, $200 even with the $50 groupon savings). Their dual-pricing model is set up such that it works this way for every item (everything is always "on sale"). Individually, Grouponers are each being ripped off by a small amount. But these scam artists do this 800 times and walk away with thousands more than they deserve.
Make sure no-one you know ever deals with this store. Karma will eventually bite these guys in the ass, and no one deserves it more.
