The school is great especially if you don't have extended health. Treatments will vary depending on the student or how far along they are in the program.
I was a student many years ago! Some are a natural and are actually amazing. I know this because I have been massaged by a lot of the students over the years and hired a few to work with me at the New West Wellness Centre Inc. once they were done the program. -

Insider info...top secret...
I feel like I'm giving some secret away if I tell you about West Coast College of Massage Therapy. Their student clinic offers all sorts of therapy (see http://www.wccmt.edu/n...) in addition to massages. Yes, they are students. Fortunately, they are supervised by on-site instructors.
I have been using their massage therapy services for many years, so I've been with multiple students. Typically, a 1-hour session begins with 10 minutes of interview, followed by 40 to 45 minutes of hands on massage. The interview helps the student understands your problematic areas so that he or she can target in those areas. The students then will need to consult the on-site instructor before working on you.
Comparing the experience at WCCMT to other fancier spas (such as Spa Utopia), I find the massage received here the same or better than those I got from the RMTs at the spas. That's why I keep going to WCCMT even though my extended health insurance does not cover the expenses (since they are not RMT).
Tips:
1) If you find a student you like, ask to book that person again. By seeing the same person, you skip the interview portion thus increasing the hands on time.
2) You can buy a package of 6 massages. Each session works out to be around $28. I think it's a steal.
Cons:
1) Do not expect spa decor. It is very obvious that WCCMT used to be a bank or a business unit. The facility is minimal but adequate. The place is heated. Sometimes the student offers to give you a heated pad. If you want one, make sure to ask for one before the student steps out of the room to let you get undressed.
2) They are students afterall. I have not any bad experience although one time I suspect the girl worked on the wrong side - instead of the right side which was really sore, she kept working on my left side. All the students I've worked with are friendly, decent (they all dress in white polo shirt and khaki pants) and professional. -

The student clinic at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy is a great place to get a great massage on the cheap. The prices per treatment top out at about $35, and the students are all fairly well along in their programs.
From Monday to Saturday, you can book a massage therapy session with one of the RMT students, who have to complete about 3000 hours of study and practice to get their certificate. The person who worked on me was super professional, and she did some technique I'd never experienced before - manipulating my hands and fingers for a sensation I felt all the way up my arm into my neck (home of the tension!) At first it was painful, then warm, then aaah.
On Sundays, they have "Spa Sundays" which features various treatments from students in the spa practitioner stream. I enjoyed a shiatsu massage, which again was done very skillfully, and left me feeling fabulous. Spa Sundays are very popular, though - I had to book at least two weeks ahead. -

I know, it's a school! So I shouldn't expect a lot.
But.. $37 for a 30-40 minute massage? I received 30 minutes and the written rule is roughly 40 minutes... It's probably the most expensive student clinic I've found from the east coast to here.
My massage wasn't that great, but again, I'm not expecting a lot. So I give con points towards really bright lighting and a rickety table that felt like I was going to break through. Pros? Many available appointments.
Was it that bad? No, not really, some people in the lobby seemed really happy with the therapists they found, but I think I'd be wayyy better off not coming back here again. -

I am surprised by the other reviews. I went here and was really disappointed. The person doing the massage did not go hard enough despite me saying that I appreciate a hard, deep tissue massage. I didn't want to spend $35 on trying out another student but maybe I went on the day with the newest students. I may give them another try upon seeing that others have had such success, but so far they have a big strike against them.
