Review from Robbie K.

I would highly recommend Way Cool Tattoos as the first place to check out if you are interested in getting inked... All of the staff are very friendly, and put you at ease immediately. Although this was not my first tattoo, it was a coverup of my first tattoo, and it was by far the best experience I have had in a tattoo/piercing shop.
To start off with, my artist, Dan, suggested that my chosen design might not be suitable for a coverup, as it was a flat colour drawing I did of a robot. Instead, he suggested that he would be able to do a better job if I gave him some time to adjust for shading and more depth. This initial consultation was 5 days ago.
Today, I got my tattoo, and when I saw the drawing it was love at first sight. Not only did he repurpose my design, he made it so much better. The shading was intensely detailed, the colours were much richer, and he added a nice personal little fun touch of electric bolts coming off of the robot's head, which I had not even thought of, but now adore. I would highly recommend letting their artists take your design and work with it, as I was definitely extremely pleased with the results.
During my tattoo, every effort was taken to make sure I was comfortable. Several times I was given a chance to look at the work in progress along the way, and every ten minutes or so, I was asked if I needed a break (which I didn't, except once because I drink too much coffee!)
I would highly recommend Way Cool Tattoos to anyone considering a tattoo, whether it be your first one, one of many, or even a cover up. I felt that the staff here all cared very much about good results and a happy customer. The other artists when not busy came to check out the work being done on me, and made very friendly conversation.
I couldn't be happier, and am already thinking up which design I'll take to have done for my next visit here! -

Let me start off by saying, I would never have gotten tattooed here if Danny wasn't an employee. Now this isn't me trying to say, this place SUCKS. It's not the worst, a lot of people seem to love this place, shown by the reviews below.
Warning to anyone who is going looking to find a spic-and-span shop. You won't find it. You'll walk in and it looks a lot filthier than it actually is. This place is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from Black Line. But the artists here are far greater.
Also, there's something up with the ink from there. Both a friend and I had bad reactions to the yellow ink that made our skin bumpy and itchy for far longer than any other part of my tattoo. It eventually healed, but I'd avoid that colour if I were you.
Honestly? I'll never be using this studio again.
*RECOMMENDATION ALERT* And since Danny is now at Sunnyside in Roncevalles, I'd gladly be making the trip out of the downtown core for him. He's just THAT spectacular. If you're looking for a great artist in the city, track him down. He's the first artist in Toronto that I've wanted to tattoo me since I found my all-time favourite artist in California.Listed in: Tatts & Pats (On The Butt)

Way Cool Queen St. does look like your stereotypical image of a downtown tattoo parlor, adorned with tattooed smokers, crowding the narrow enterance door for more impact! The shop is easy to miss from the outside, until you walk right past it (on the South side of the street) and see a tattoo chair right at the front window.
I have multiple tattoos and have had many done at this location, which is konwn for being utmost concerned with sterilization, sanitization and well, you get it, no sketchy "are they using new needles" here folks.
Personally I enjoy the work of Danny, the shops hardcore, old school, punk rock tattooist, who is versatile enough to make everything from blood gushing demons, to Hello Kitty, look sick.
All of the artists at Way Cool Queen are accomplished visual artists and I highly recommend walking in to check out their work and availability. -

There are no shortage of tattoo parlors in the Queen Street West area. Some look pretty sleek, others like authentic biker shops, a place for every walk of life. Way Cool Tattoo - Downtown is your typical tattoo parlor, nothing too stylized or fancy. When you walk in there are three partitioned sections with three chairs where the inking happens.
The counter is at the far back of the shop. On the two separate occasions I went, the staff were fairly friendly. My tattooist did appear to get increasingly annoyed when she was photocopying my template, and I kept asking her to reduce the size of the tattoo. Having a tattooed and pierced tough looking woman getting frustrated did not bode well for me, it was a little intimidating to stay the least. I mean I was about to let her stick a needle in my arm and permanently scar me for life. But alas, she turned out to be an ok person and hey tattoos are for life, and I wanted it to be perfect (morale of the story: don't be intimidated in those places, even though they can be quite intimidating).
This being my first tattoo, I didn't really know what to expect. I know what I wanted, I had picked out my own design, which I guess is half the battle. Having gotten a lip ring from their sister shop, Way Cool Tattoo - Uptown, I knew this place would be clean and sanitary, and it did not disappoint. All equipment came in sealed packages, and my tattooist walked me through everything she was doing. She went through after-care and cleaning procedure and told me what I should expect from it (I never knew your skin scabbed over in the color of the ink of your tattoo! You learn something new everyday!).
The whole process took about 20-30 minutes door-to-door. I got a little tattoo on my wrist which cost about $75, the actual needle time couldn't have been more than 10 minutes. After all the scabbing fell off and everything healed, the tattoo looked great. No touch ups were needed. Though I don't plan on being a David Beckham or John Mayer, I can now see why tattoos can be addictive. In fact, I'm already planning my next one.
