I use Watts for period costuming from time to time. Fairly extensive inventory. If you want volume such as 200 WWII infantry uniforms there are better places. They seem to specialize in period costuming so if you're looking for something more contemporary shop around. There may be better & more affordable options. A good place to go for the exotic.
A lot of their costumes are replicas (not all) and many are made by the staff. This means their costumes are usually in pristine condition and good quality. I am often shocked by the variety of costumes available here. The place isn't huge compared to other places but they seem to choose wisely what they carry.
I had a client ask them to come down a bit on the price in exchange for services. This is a very taboo thing to do here and they gave her a long lecture. Do not try to haggle -they hate that. The staff take their jobs seriously and can sometimes be a bit humorless. They are seamstresses and artisans not salespeople so showing deference to their craft goes a long way. You don't have to be sycophantic just be respectful.
I rented a Chinese silk gown and it set me back $160. A few years earlier I had rented a similar gown from the now defunct Dunbar Costumes for $40. They are the only place in Vancouver for certain items and their prices reflect that.
Closed Sundays and (oddly enough) Mondays. Which means if you pick up your rental on Saturday it's not due back until Tuesday!Listed in: Photography., Useful!

We are Vancouver's longest running costume house. Established back in 1935 a couple moves and here we are at 217 West 6th Ave for the last 25 years!

I came to Watts just a short 10 months ago after being a hairstylist for the last 13 years. I have always been a seamstress and creatively minded. I design and produce a line of Jewelry ,Hats and Hair Accessories and sew costumes in my spare time. I take pride in finding what the client needs and will try help them if we do not carry what they are looking for. I think we have an amazing selection of costumes and look forward to seeing you soon.
