Review from Deborah S.
Vancouver, BC
An unimposing quirky little place with lots of character with good food. The Water Prince Corner Shop's walls are adorned top to bottom with mermaids, license plates, and photos of celebrities.
We went into the restaurant and waited about 20 minutes for a seat. Even around 9pm when we went, the shop was still buzzing with activity (you should make a reservation if possible). We lucked out as someone didn't show up, and we got a table.
We ordered a dozen Malpeque oysters ($24), which were very fresh & good. They serve it over ice with lemon wedges & cocktail sauce.
Then, we each ordered a cup of the seafood chowder -- I found it a bit salty, but it tastes quite authentic, and comes with a nice biscuit w/ butter.
Then we proceeded to order our separate plates: scallop burger ($12.95), and lobster dinner (starts at $29.95 for 1lb and goes up in $5 for each 1/2 lb increment up to 2lb for $50).
The scallop burger was yummy. The scallops were large and cooked perfectly (NOT overcooked at all). Comes with potato salad, but I exchanged for their home-cut fries -- made from famous PEI potatoes, they are DELICIOUS. The burger itself is a nice white bun with just a little mayo and a piece of lettuce so that the flavour of the breaded scallops isn't overwhelmed.
You can get lobster for cheaper elsewhere (or it's also about 1/2 the cost if you do takeout from Water Prince), but your money goes a long way here. You start with a lb of mussels, which are very delicious -- hot, fresh, and flavoured perfectly, and then the lobster comes with a side of potato salad (which has more egg than potato -- awesome). The lobster itself is cooked very well -- not overdone at all -- sweet and only slightly chewy.
Like many other places, the lobster dinner comes with a bib, but not only that -- you can also wear lobster hats for optimal photo opps! So...of course we took pictures. :)
Lastly, though we were already stuffed, we decided to have dessert. We had heard the strawberry rhubarb pie was good, so we got this, as well as the coconut cream pie. The strawberry rhubarb pie is good (the crust is quite nice and flaky), but the coconut cream pie -- MY GOODNESS -- it is the best coconut cream pie I've ever tasted in my life. I have always avoided it because it just seems like a creamy gelatinous mess, but this coconut cream pie is made from scratch and has real thick shavings of coconut in it, with fresh cream, and toasted coconut flakes on top. If you like coconut cream pie, you must come here and try it!
All in all, a great meal in a fun kitschy (in a nice way) restaurant. -

This seafood restaurant specializes in lobster, but it's hard to go wrong at this local favorite. Always full of seafood lovers, the Shop serves up a mean fried scallop burger. Tackle a whole lobster, or try a bit of everything with the amazing sampler of sea creatures.
At the edge of the sea, the Shop has it all, and so fresh. Unpretentious, reasonable, and fun, this is a great spot for groups, although the lobster bib might be a turn off on a date, but don't miss this classic on your visit to PEI. -

There is nothing imposing or pretentious about this restaurant. Situated in a former corner store, the atmosphere is casual and friendly. The dishes are not fancy or haute cuisine. But, it's just GOOD seafood! I had the clam chowder (which was tasty) and a 1 lb lobster. The lobser was fresh, juicy and cooked perfectly. And yes, they give you a bib, lots of napkins and liquid butter (like I said, nothing pretentious). I also tried their freshly baked coconut cream pie (a new addition ot the menu) - it was fantastic!
To top it off, the service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant is small enough that even the other patrons struck up conversations with each other. A real Island experience! -

This restaurant was a recommendation from Lonely Planet so we decided to check it out.
The place is small and cute. We decided to sit outside and people watch since the weather was nice. The server was very friendly and attentive.
A run down of what we dined on:
Lobster roll-- Fresh, tasty, sweet lobster but a too much mayo for my liking. The bun was not very good-- hard and not buttered.
Scallop burger-- Essentially fried scallops on a burger bun with tarter. The scallops were very tasty so points for that.
Drinks: White wine made on PEI which was nice and a Canadian micro brew also good.
Bill came to over $40 which I thought was a bit expensive considering the meal was nothing special. The seafood was fresh and the service was friendly so I can't complain.Listed in: O'Canada

I had dinner here on a cold, rainy evening in May. Parking was not a problem on the night I was there, but I could see it being a real challenge in the high season. Even on a cold, rainy day in May, there was a wait for a table. The dining room is compact (it really is just a corner shop), and very casual (most of the wall decorations are license plates and posters).
The seafood here is really excellent and fantastically fresh. The steamed mussels were the best mussels I have ever had. A scallop sandwich was inventive and very good. The restaurant has micro-brews from the Canadian Maritimes on offer, which is nice. Service was excellent.
As a bonus, the restaurant has a very large blue lobster in a tank by the front door. I'm pretty sure it is the largest live lobster I have ever seen myself and would definitely be of interest to children. -

Looks like a tourist trap. May even be a tourist trap. Small, intimate, crowded with a line out the door the entire time we were there.
There was nothing touristy about the exceptional service we received nor the food that we ordered. The lobster dinner came with a 1-1/4 lb whole lobster, 2 lbs of mussels and a large scoop of potato salad. The price? A very reasonable $34!
My wife, who doesn't like mussels, ate half the order. They were that good! The lobster was fine, hot and fresh. Nothing particularly special from any other lobster but that's okay.
Definitely a restaurant we would visit again. -

BEST LOBSTER...EVER!
The mussels were also the best I have ever tasted. Such a nice change to have a simple dish prepared so well. The mussels were just boiled in water; no garlic, no wine, no oil. And they were unbelievably good.
The service was nice and so were the prices. We went for lunch at precisely noon: limited wait and not too crowded. -

There are quite a few very good, fancy seafood restaurants in Chalottetown. This isn't fancy, but it is the best food in town. I saved it for may last dinner on PEI, and I wasn't disappointed.
I had the scallop burger and a cup of chowder. The chowder was thick and rich, and had a wide variety of ingredients. Each variety of fin and shellfish stood out, making it a rare treat. The scallops were cooked perfectly and were sweet and tasty. The potato (w/egg) salad was delicious as well.
The chowder came with a biscuit that was closer to shortcake in texture and taste. I ate it for desert!
The next morning, I emailed them asking if they could make me a lobster roll that I could pick up for the flight home. I had the best lunch ever on an Air Canada flight! It was a perfect specimen with tender meat on a good, soft bun.
