A small waffel shop in downtown Victoria with a simple menu of two waffel options plus toppings - one cool concept made famous by Dragon's Den! A good spot to experience with a friend or a little rug rat =)
Brusselswaffel = The breakfast waffel with simple ingredients.
We added strawberry compote and whip cream. This was light and tasty and the better choice of the two. It would have been even better if it was crispier and not so soft.
Liegewaffel = The dessert waffle with a caramel glaze.
We added vanilla ice cream. It reminded me of something I would have gone crazy for as a kid - tasted like a crispy donut with ice cream that's overly sweet, and similar to the Belgium waffles I had in Brussels last year (They have waffels as a vending machine staple there!).
3.5/5. I've had better fresh waffels at buffet brunches and homemade. The waffels are very average, plus the price after a topping or two makes the waffle about $7. I'll give it to the owners for their creativity and simplicity of the concept; it's fabulous and makes Wannawafel a fun experience... so yah sure, I'd go again if a friend wanted to try it.
Suggestion for improvement: Waffle-making process should be consistent. Push standardization of the waffle cook time - perhaps with a timer to simplify the process for staff and to perfect the crispiness of the waffels. -

Holy hell these are good. The name of this place is GENIUS because heck yeah I wanna waffle! They smell great and you know what that means? They TASTE great too!
I'm almost glad I don't live in Victoria because I'd be totally fat from eating this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do not miss out on Wannawafel if you're in Victoria. I'll hunt you down and make you try it!Listed in: When I'm OFF the Hill, Awesome, Vacation destinations, Road Trippin', Oh Canada!

If you like the Belgium style waffle, you'll love wannawafel. Starts off sweet and then you get the yeasty taste. I'm not a fan of the yeasty taste, and don't really like the after taste.
Quick service and about $4/waffle.Comment from renaat m. of Wannawafel 7/15/2011

seriously? 5 star reviews?
I had the dense waffle (I forgot the name of it, sorry!) with some fruit compote on top. Belgian Waffles - I imagined them to be chewy, sweet and moist inside, with thin layer of sugar to bite into it.
They put WAY too much compote on top, by the time I was able to get to the waffle, it was soggy and gross.
When I saw the shelves with heated lamp, with a bunch of waffles already made and kept warm, I knew I was getting into something that was not made fresh. Yep, I was right. The waffle I got was not made fresh and it was rather soggy. They cannot pay me to go back...Comment from renaat m. of Wannawafel 7/11/2011

You're not imagining things. Follow the sweet scent, it's leading you in the right direction. Trust your intuition, or at the very least your olfactory senses because in a moment you'll be deciding between a liege and a Brussels waffle.
If I lived in Victoria - there's no doubt that Wannawafel would be my breakfast of choice. As I sat savouring my really berry fruit compote topped liege with crystallized sugar *drool,* I watched as people walked in and just got a waffle to go... a waffle to go, people!
Genius. Deliciousness. Go. There. Now. (And grab a coffee too, it was good!)Listed in: Victoria, BC Beauty!

After checking into the hotel we immediately found the Wannawafle cart located directly by the waterfront in front of the Empress. These things are amazing. It's a totally different things than what you are expecting a waffle to taste like. More like a super fragrant, caramel crunchy baked good. Amazing. could seriously eat one of these waffles daily folks. Lets hope they open up a cart on the Yaletown Waterfront ASAP. Could not recommend any higher.

In a nutshell? Go here. Say hello. Savour waffles. Enjoy coffee. Repeat.
I first discovered Wannawafel in June 2009, when it was "Waffles to go", a mobile cart sending the distinct sweet smell of waffles wafting through Victoria's Inner Harbour. As anyone that has known me longer than half an hour can attest to, I can find, cook, smell, or otherwise detect waffles from great distances. Even before there was an app for that.
Created by a husband and wife team, I was greeted warmly and with genuine interest, in both my appearance as a potential customer and as a human. As I stood staring blankly in awe at the simple menu, simultaneous thoughts of "Why haven't I done this?!", and "How many waffles can I order without causing alarming looks?" ran quickly through my mind.
I chose a Liege, a heavier dessert style waffle, served simply, fresh, and hot, plain in a napkin. No nonsense, just waffle. I ran to catch up to my friends, exclaiming about my new found waffle cart, and how it was most certainly set to change my life. I really love waffles this much. Waffles, cupcakes, coffee, ice cream. Repeat.
Skip ahead to May 2010 and the word on the street is this cart has become Wannawafel, with a shop on Johnson Street. Off I went. This time I had a Brussels with whip cream, which was perfectly prepared. Fluffy and light, with its outer crispy texture and soft moist interior were exactly what I love in a waffle. The whip cream is heavy with great texture, and just the right amount of sweet. I have a sweet tooth, but don't like things overly sweetened, and try to avoid processed sugar as best I can. These waffles cater perfectly.
On my 30th birthday in September, I intended to start my day here, and was dismayed to arrive shortly after 8am only to discover they open at 10am. I headed to Discovery Coffee to ease my troubles, and decided the ferry was worth missing, even for just one waffle. Back shortly after 10am, Mrs. Wannawafel (I apologize for not knowing her name) asked me how I was, so I of course told her it was my birthday and I was there to start it right, with a waffle. We got to chatting about living in Victoria, I told I was there to consider it, and she told me her story of emigrating to Canada, and how they came to start their waffle business. I love a good story, and was so happy to share this quiet birthday morning with her before heading to Vancouver.
They serve Level Ground Direct Fair Trade organic coffee, who are an amazing company. I used to work for them on the mainland, if you don't know them, they're worth discovering. They offer vanilla ice cream, and the berry compote topping changes seasonally. It does not appear to come from a five gallon Sysco pail, thank you Wannawafel, for that. They've mastered simplicity, and with their recent Dragon's Den appearance seem to have been picking up speed. I wish them much success. I also day dream of being a part of their Sales & Marketing program, but that's another story. I mean really, selling and marketing waffles? Yes please. Perhaps a franchise is in my future. -

I'd been wanting to try wannawafel ever since I heard all the hype build up with the dragons den show etc. I thought it would be one of those places that you try it once and your brain explodes and you're hooked.
Staff were friendly and helpful even though the kitchen environment was a bit chaotic. I was kind of surprised to see 8 or more waffles sitting on a heat rack (Edit: owners note below says that this is normal for this type of waffle). We ordered up one of each waffle with 3 toppings on each. My wife was told her waffle would be dense and sweet, however it came out with portions still raw inside. She did however, really like the blueberry/fruit compote. They told me mine would be a few minutes, they didn't mention that it would be so long that my wife would be finished hers before mine arrived (note to business, it's really advisable to try to serve the whole table at close to the same time or it makes for a pretty awkward dining experience). Other than the texture and colour, nothing about this waffle was great, the waffle itself tasted primarily of oil, I wish I was joking, but that was by far the strongest flavour I picked up. The whip cream was not as flavourful as I'd have liked, the ice cream and chocolate sauce was OK but nothing that said MORE MORE MORE! Edit - As the owner has noted below, I did not attempt to get them to fix their mistakes and it's possible they would have however my schedule didn't allow that and many people will likely be in the same boat when they stop in for a quick snack.
Overall this was just a real disappointment and didn't come anywhere near making my list of evil sinful must return dessert locations. Given all the 5 star reviews though, I have to hope that this was an off experience and give them one more shot

My husband and I were watching TV during our weekend in Victoria and saw Wannawafel on a show and decided to give it a try! The restaurant is very small - only seats 10 people - so we ended up sitting outside on a very snowy morning, but the service was wonderful and the ladies working at the counter were cheerful and very smiley. Having gone there on empty stomachs and since we walked 10 blocks in the snow from our hotel - we were expecting (and wanting) a warm, thick, mouth-watering waffle - but our waffles were cold, thin and pretty much tasteless if it weren't for the toppings we added. We left the restaurant still hungry and had to go elsewhere for a "2nd breakfast". Sad to say - I wouldn't come back here.

It was a sad day when the Sidney Summer Market closed for the season, because with it the Wannawafel cart was also gone... Yes! They have mobile mini versions of their store serving up their delicious treats all over the area. Great for us who don't live close to downtown. Alas, the waffles are well worth the extra trip. They are THAT good! Lovely people too. Great concept. Great experience. Great waffles. Simply great waffles. They will make a waffle lover out of you too.

When I was in Victoria a couple of weeks ago, this stand was near a pier. The wafel smelled really delicious. My family and I stopped by and purchased 6..the owner was really nice. He asked if we can wait a few mins for the new batch of wafels..we waited and believe me..it was well worth the wait. We all found a spot on the steps and ate...was hoping to go for seconds, but we had a bunch of other places to visit.
He informed us that he is looking to open a small place in the U.S., preferably San Francisco. I'm looking forward to it so please make it happen, wannawafel!! -

So good! Wannawafel has two different types of waffle to choose from: Sweet sugar waffles, or delicious, crispy Brussels waffles. I had a Brussels with fruit compote and it was great! Chatty service and breakfast for $5 can't be beat. I'll be visiting very often!
