this place is good for the takoyaki, yakitori and baked mussels.
sashimi could be better but come here for the other side dishes you normally don't order. ;) -

My friends and I went in for the happy hour, and wow, I'm glad we chose this place!
From the HH menu, we ordered:
- Takoyaki
- Seattle rolls
- Crunchy Tuna rolls
- Unagi rolls
- Brie cheese Tempura
- some tofu dish... the name escapes me, sorry!
The takoyaki here was one of the best that I had. And I didn't know what to expect for Brie Cheese Tempura, but wow, the cheese and the raspberry sauce went really well together. Wann's HH rolls are really generous in portion considering the price is only $4.50 (veggie + some classic rolls) or $5.50 ("crunchy" rolls, basically flash-fried rolls). The crunchy rolls were probably one of the best flash-fried rolls that I have had, but still, I think I would have gotten the non-fried rolls, which taste as good, and are cheaper by a dollar!
For some reason, we were the only customers in the restaurant. But I really liked the ambient of the restaurant (a bit dark, but still with lots of sun light, and Japanese-style angular furnishings with cool floor decoration), and the waiter was so friendly and helpful.
Overall, nice environment, super waiter, and really good HH food and really good price! -
Review from Brad H.
This review is based primarily on the service, the atmosphere and the cheese tempera appetizer I had.
This is mainly a sushi style food option in Seattle; however, being allergic to shell fish, I stuck with tempera. The bri cheese tempera was amazing. It had a great flavor, a wonderful raspberry sauce to complement the cheese flavors and did not have an over fried taste to it. The cost was a little steep for the serving portion; however, the atmosphere of the restaurant makes up for it.
Wann has a very elegant and welcoming feel to it. It is clean, fashionable and modern. The music selection is modern and upbeat and the staff appears to truly care about their guests.
The menu selection is limited for those who cant have shellfish, but is still a great place to visit. -

FANTASTIC! I almost don't want anyone to know! The fried oysters are soooo good as well as the sushi. The well drinks are strong, the service friendly!

What a disappointment. My family came into town for my graduation and we ate at Wenn. The tuna tasted like it had been sitting out for a long time and was possibly rotten. We had them take it back and instead of just apologizing and offering us something else, a manager named Claire came over and basically told us it was our fault that we didn't like the taste of the tuna. She was rude and aggressive and mimicked me when I told her it tasted like it was rotten. She told us that by saying it didn't taste right we were offending the chefs. They charged us for the food we didn't eat. She made it so unpleasant for my family that none of us enjoyed the meal. What an awful, awful place. None of us will ever go back there and it is too bad for them because we eat sushi all the time.

I was disappointed in this place. However, part of the reason was because of all the hype about it that I've heard from everybody prior to actually getting a chance to try it myself. Now that I have, I have nothing to rave about this place....
The decor was nice, and quite romantic. I was there with my boyfriend, during what should have been peak hours, but it wasn't busy. The wait for service was longer than I expected from a slow time of day. The waiter seemed new as he failed to tell us one of our orders was sold out after leading us to think it was placed and will be set on our table at any moment. Instead, after we finished basically all our food, we asked him about the dish just to have him go check then tell us it is not available.
Other than those mishaps, the place and food was decent. -
Review from Craig R.
My wife and I have been here a couple of times now since we moved to Seattle. On the overall I enjoy the food, but the service always seems to be a little sluggish. It could also just be that the restaurant leans a little more toward letting you eat than stopping by all the time.
On the overall:
-The food is delicious, I love the Takoyaki!
-The location is great
-The staff is kind and helpful, albeit a smidge slow as mentioned above
-It can get a little pricy outside of happy hour, especially if you order cocktails
I'll continue to come back during happy hours as it is right down the street from my apartment, unsure if I'll return again during normal hours. -

I particularly enjoy their late night happy hour.
They do not serve a full menu for late night happy hour, but the quality of the sushi and rolls are great. They also serve a variety of other types of food (which are more appetizer style).
The limited staff/bartender are fairly laid back and friendly and here is usually not a wait for the late night happy hour.
As noted above, during happy hour, their staff is limited so do not expect to have a full service waiter/waitress making sure your tea is filled every 5 minutes. -

It was great experience to enjoy the Japanese Izakaya in Seattle.
A lot different than "wann" in Japan but decor was absolutely gorgeous.
We had few rolls and oyster shots, salad.
I wish they serve shochu or Japanese sour. Pairing would be great with the foods they serve. -

This was my very first experience with the amazingness that is Seattle happy hours. It really didn't disappoint; it was the perfect kickoff to my round stomach.
There is something to be said about izakayas. The extensive list of small and delicious eats. The pairing of beer or soju-based cocktails. The way you can sit there for 2 hours without judgement (I think). What can be better??
The happy hour menu was one of the more extensive in my bunches of happy hours and prices were definitely one of the lowest. My spicy tuna roll (I must get it everywhere I go) was so spicy and fresh that I had to stop myself from stuffing the entire roll in my mouth at once. We also got the takoyaki, agedashi tofu, sashimi salad, and 2 plates of sashimi ($8/each).
Their cocktails were definitely special. They had many drinks with oolong tea, which I hadn't heard of before. The Mango Oolong really balanced the mango, tea, and alcohol well. -

I've gone here quite a few times for their happy hour. However, I kind of make it a point not to order anything that isn't HH since I'm on a college budget and regular prices are a little steep.
The HH menu has a great selection and the quality is pretty nice. However, it gets a little tiring and unexciting if you go more than a couple times. Wasn't a fan of their cocktails, which are inconsistent in flavor/quality each time I go despite ordering the same thing.
The service nowadays is better. There is one waitress that recognizes me and is completely sweet. However, I rate this a 3 because the first time I went there was an extremely rude waitress that had us waiting for almost 30 minutes (even though the restaurant wasn't NEAR full). Finally, another waitress seated us. The rude waitress came up and in a snooty manner said, "So you thought you'd just seat yourselves, huh?" Completely uncalled for. Thankfully they seemed to have brought in some new staff since then and they are much nicer. -

This was a good find. Last minute choice of Japanese restaurant turned into a good dinner. Quality was good and portions were quite big for a reasonable price. Waiter was very professional, friendly and efficient.

I'm amazed, but glad, that Wann isn't always packed.
I love knowing that this place has all day HH on Mondays. Nothing better than not having to figure out where to go and how fast after work you have to get there. On Mondays, I can take my time and have a killer HH at Wann. Bartenders are very knowledgeable, patient and easygoing. Signature cocktails are unique and, from sipping around, quite yummy. I'm sold on the Kurokame Shochu. The food is top notch, lovingly presented and rich in variety. Not a dud in the bunch, so far.
I will keep going back until I have tried everything. I think it could take a while. -

Terrific happy hour menu! Plus all-day HH on Mondays. I thoroughly enjoyed the small portion tempura udon for $5. It was just the right size so that I'd still have room to try other stuff. The salmon poke was also delicious, though I didn't care for the puffy rice noodles that they were served on. Also, way too much seaweed!
I'll be back for sure, as this is just a couple blocks from the office.
PS, it would be awesome if they could kill the shitty 80 and 90's music that is always playing. -

I went to Wann with a few friends last Friday night for their late night happy hour. The only thing I didn't really like was that happy hour is only served in the bar, but I think that's pretty typical for down town.
The happy hour menu was extensive, with a lot of choices all from salads, spare ribs, takayaki, and sushi/sashimi. Even people who don't like sushi will find something good to eat.
I was surprised they weren't busier on a Friday night, it being Belltown and all, but this isn't such a hipster place. It was more of a place to go eat good Japanese food.
I also love that they had the hockey highlights on in the back ground. :D

Good izakaya-style Japanese food (Japanese tapas?) that tastes a lot like some of the food you get in Japan. The service is dependably a little slow and confused whether you come for happy hour or lunch, but they always get it right in the end. They have enough options for those who don't eat fish, and the lunch bento special is a good deal. Good for lunch or happy hour and a nice bar!

**Happy Hour review only.
This is one of my go-to places for happy hour. There's a huge selection and the prices are cheap. I almost always order the udon and the takoyaki. I love the Seattle crunch roll, too - salmon, cream cheese...deep fried. What's not to like?
I always leave with my belly happy. :D -

price/portion ratio: Typically I only go here for happy hour, which is great on Mondays and Tuesdays because they have all day happy hour, making the price for the portion a great deal! The normal menu is fair to reasonable for the price but not worth it considering the overall experience. 4 stars on my Budget Bites scale.
location/parking: The location isn't bad, just outside the busy area of Belltown and street parking isn't hard to find; there is also a couple pay lots around if you don't want to look for street parking.
selection/presentation: The selection is good. They have a pretty big menu and the happy hour menu reflects it. They even have a number of items which aren't on the current happy hour menu or regular menu that is really good. The servers can fill you in on what those are- it's a surprise!
flavor/quality: The flavor ranges from good to awesome on most of the items. Nigiri sushi and Sashimi doesn't seem to be their specialty.. Perhaps they don't have enough volume of business to make it so, but their rolls are good. The quality is consistent which is good, but the things that aren't up to my standard are also consistently up to par so that's not too good- haha
environment/ambiance: The environment is trendy and modern. It's got a westernized dark feel to it because of the high booth seats and dark colors for decor, but the tables themselves are well lit. It's quiet with ambient music playing which is nice whether you're on a date or just with a few friends, but the service is consistently sub standard for the type of restaurant they are trying to promote.
Overall, I'd say go there on either a Monday or Tuesday when time isn't a big concern. It'll make finding parking easier, the prices will be easy to "digest" and you'll have plenty of time to converse with whomever you're with. A casual business meeting over happy hour wouldn't be such a bad idea as well considering there won't be too many interruptions- ha!
My Budget Bites scale:
5 stars $6 or less
4 stars $8 or less
3 stars $10 or less
2 stars $12 or less
1 star $12 or more -
Review from Kelly M.
Passed by this place with the big glowing sign dozens of times and never thought twice about stopping by. That's because I typically don't wander into Belltown very often and stay in the area. Came here recently for a friend's birthday and luckily caught the late HH.
The restaurant is very laid back, quiet and dimly lit. A pretty chilled kinda ambiance. The bartender didn't seem very happy with my arrival, gave me the "I don't feel like serving you" attitude. And I felt like it was only directed to me, strange. I'm sure I didn't give him a nasty look or anything.
Their HH menu is very pleasing, having a number of good selections of appetizers and rolls. Took me awhile to figure out what I really wanted but finally settled for the house salad and spicy tuna roll. The salad was fresh and dressing very delicious but a bit too generous for my liking. I felt that the salad was drenched. The spicy tuna roll was not spicy at all, tasted like a regular tuna roll. That was disappointing for me. I also ordered a specialty cocktail that was on the regular menu called Pink Godzilla. Cute name. When I asked for that, the bartender just looked at me all weirded out. Dude, it's on your menu. So was it worth it? Ehh, for $9 no not really but whatever.
I think I'll have to come back at an earlier time and give it another shot because at this point, I'm just not very impressed. -

I think I would give them a better rating if the service was better. I never wanted to punch someone as badly as I did during the night of my visit. Our server had an attitude problem that rubbed me the wrong way.
I came in during a quiet Saturday night and there was no hostess. The only people available were the bartenders. However, they were too busy watching a game on TV to notice people waiting in the front. I was looking for my party which happened to be in the back room.
Our server came in and I asked if I can get an extra happy hour menu. He told me that they were short on them and we are at the limit of the menus on our table. So I asked if I can borrow menu from the empty tables so I can order really quickly. He told me that the other menu was reserved for those tables even though the entire place was dead. We had 10 people in our party and only 2 menus. Really?
Another one of our friends came in late and we ask if we can put an extra seat at the front of the table. To which his response was that it would block him from entering in the back so he can't "serve" us. I might add that before my friend had arrived, he never once went to the back to "serve" us.
End of my rant. Other than the annoying server, the food was actually decent. Next time, I would not pick this place for a big group celebration. -

I'm not usually harsh, but my experience with Wann was sad. My hubby and I were celebrating our anniversary with a fun day downtown and this place came recommended. Plus, we love sushi!
When we walked in, there was a woman just standing at the hostess desk. Waiters kept walking by and eventually one came back to finish up with her. But then they walked away while we stood there waiting to be simply acknowledged. Another waitress came up and started punching in an order into the computer, but didn't say anything to us for at least 5 minutes. By then we had be standing at the door completely ignored for almost 15 minutes. Finally, the waitress said she'd be right with us. After entering the order, she took down our name and said it would be 5 minutes to clear off a table. Another 15 minutes go by and no table.
So why didn't we leave? Well, I could tell it was busy with large groups and it appeared they were understaffed. Plus, the place came recommended, so I figured the food would be good.
Well - that was a horrible assumption. We got two rolls which were mediocre at best. One of the rolls had avocado and it was totally hard/unripe. And the other had a fishy aftertaste.
I was completely disappointed and will never go there again. -
Review from Chiri E.
My boyfriend and I came here for late night happy hour because we were in the area and I had this place bookmarked forever!!
I really enjoyed this place, the place was quiet, spacious and WARM unlike most bars around Belltown where their seating is near the door. I sipped away on Oolong hai, which is oolong tea and shochu while my boyfriend hogged the chocolate lava cake. We also ordered astuage tofu, which was really warm and soft on the inside. I thought it was really good.
We already had dinner so we didn't really try any other food items but definitely would like to come back again to try the food :) -

LOVE this place!
I've been there a few times with big groups, with small groups anything in between, their food and drinks has been consistently good, reasonably priced for Seattle (esp the HH) and the staff are nice and friendly.
I highly recommend it if you want to go somewhere for good Japanese food/ snack with minimum attitude and change left in your pocket! -

I go to Wann fairly often. I don't really know anyone here, but that doesn't really matter, everyone is friendly. It has a great late night happy hour, as well as one early in the day. Wann feels like a place you stumble upon when traveling. You know the place: everyone seems to belong, the music is good, and the food is tasty and affordable and you say, "Man, I would come to the place all the time if I lived here!"
There is a mural in the hallway that separates Wann from its neighbor. It is beautiful and at night, trippy since the light that shows it comes on rather randomly.
Going to Wann is a casual no-brainer. Its not stuffy, its not expensive and its not terribly crowded or loud. Its just right. -

Have you ever gone somewhere and the waiter just looks like you like you're a total F***ing A$$hole and they want you to go away? That pretty much sums up Wann. The greeter is nice when you walk in. The food is not too bad either. When it finally comes. Even if its a slow night, expect shitty service. And heaven forbid you ask what something is on the menu or where your drink is that you ordered 20 minutes ago. And this isn't a one time thing. I have given Wann several tries. Worse every time. For me and my friends. Do yourself a favor, there are PLENTY of different places to go in Seattle. SKIP WANN.

Happy hour!!! Wanns has always seemed to satisfy me with there happy hour menu. It's cheap and delicious. I like it so much i booked the place for prom to introduce my other friends about this place. I suggest going on Monday or Tuesday when they have happy hour all day.
The down side is service is kind of slow and food takes awhile to come out. As well as the bathroom is very dirty -

If you want some interesting sushi rolls this is the place to go.
Mecha Godzilla made with kobe beef.
Seattle Crunch roll with salmon and tempura battered with a sauce that goes perfectly with it.
And their happy hour is excellent. Where else can you get half price rolls that are full size! And cheap beer, cool mixed drinks, and Sake. -

I went in September when they had their all-day Happy Hour special and talk about bang for your buck! However, I haven't been back since and I'm not sure if I ever will, at least not for the sushi rolls.
SERVICE: Although the service was really awesome (the waitress and hostess were both super sweet), we did have to wait a very long time until we got our table. This was at 8:30 pm and I was with 2 other people.
FOOD: The Poke was awesome, the Angel Fried Hair was a really interesting and creative appetizer, but the sushi was sub-par.
We ordered 3 rolls that night:
- Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll
- California Crunch Roll
- Shrimp Tempura Roll
I didn't like the crunch rolls because they were both just entirely drenched in sauce, taking away from experiencing the flavors within the roll. And, in my opinion, the sauce made them way too heavy, something that sushi rolls aren't typically.
The Shrimp Tempura Roll: can I get some tempura with that rice? There was barely any of the good stuff and way too much rice. Not cool and not yum.
IN CONCLUSION: Maybe I'll give them another shot sometime and try their other dishes. Their appetizers were good and they had a wide variety that sounded tasty. But if you want to go to a Japanese restaurant that serves good sushi rolls, go to Kozue in Wallingford. -
Review from Lisa P.
My friend and I decided to dine here on a Friday night. Parking was hard to find on the streets, so we just parked in the garage that was a couple of feet away. Other than that, good luck finding a parking space during dinner time.
This restaurant has very modern decor. It is absolutely beautiful. The set up is unique and spacious at the same time.
Now, onto the food. We both ordered some dishes to share:
Mushroom Kamameshi:
This dish is very flavorful since the sticky rice had time to seep in the flavors of three different kinds of mushrooms: Shiitake, oyster & portabella mushrooms; along with bamboo shoots, burdock root fried tofu in a bonito broth.
It was presented in a little iron pot with a flame lit underneath. It sat cooking at our table and we were instructed to wait until the flame goes out in order to eat it. It took about 20 minutes, which wasn't so bad.
Boulanger Salmon Roll:
The ingredients are indeed fresh and light with well-rounded flavors. If you like salmon, you should try this roll.
Mecha Gozilla Roll:
This dish is suppose to be extremely spicy with seared Kobe beef tataki wrapped around asparagus, cream cheese, cilantro with habanero teriyaki sauce, spicy aioli, wasabi mayo. The Kobe beef was a little chewy for my taste, nonetheless, the roll is perfectly balanced. Although you might think combining cream cheese with beef is weird, you'll never know until you try it!
On a side note: If you are accustomed to spicy food, then there's not much of a kick for you.
Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream:
You absolutely HAVE to try this for dessert. Green tea ice cream is deep fried in a light tempura batter served with a little chocolate sauce and whipped cream, dusted off with matcha powder. The experience: tasting the cold creamy confectionery with the crispy exterior will satisfy your sweet tooth. It is Heaven!
When I get a chance, I will come back here. The service is pleasant and this place is quiet enough for general conversations without the buzz of idle chatter around you. It was a really fun experience with a modern twist on traditional Japanese food. -

Best Spicy Tuna Roll in Seattle.
Plus they always have Sapporo which completes any humans hunger based on the superior alloy design.
This place is Japanese because it is Japanese from the entrance, thru the dinning experience, and out with our exit. -

I ate here last night with a friend and I fell in love after the first bite.
First, the food. I ordered the California Crunch Roll, my friend ordered the Spicy Tuna, and we both cleaned our plates. We also shared the fried chicken off the appetizer list and the hot dogs. (I know right, hot dogs at a sushi bar? But they were delicious.) Not a scrap was left on our table, and that's saying something considering the amount of food and the size of us two tiny girls.
Aside from the food, service was a little slow, but the food was certainly worth the wait. The staff was all very kind and courteous and I loved our server- adorable. And the decor was very pleasant and subtle.
I would recommend this place to anyone, hands down. (And I hear they have a killer happy hour menu.) -

Great place for happy hour.
I've been here about a dozen times. I usually get the tako yaki, yam fries, and then some rolls. They have alright drinks, but I'm not a huge fan of sake or cocktails, so I just go with water most of the time. It's one of those few places that don't require you to get a drink for happy hour. Lovee that aspect about it.
The servers are always really friendly. I hate when I go places and they constantly ask you things and bug you, but here, they have a great balance laissez-faire and quality service.
I've gotten a sushi roll of their regular menu, and my boyfriend exclaimed that it was the "best sushi" he's ever had in his "whole entire life." I guess that counts for something right? -

I've been coming here for a while, and i'll explain why this is hands down my favorite restaurant in Seattle.
1. The service is beyond friendly. Everyone is so cheery and happy and down to have a conversation. I've met a lot of great employees here. The management is super friendly and non-douchy as a lot of other restaurant managers.
2. The food is good. Wann is actually a huge chain in japan, so you know the food will be good! granted, they take liberty with their menu, the quality stands for sure. I DARE you to try their sashimi vs. a more expensive place like umi's or shiro's even and tell me it's not comparable. and for the price, i could come here multiple times a week.
in summary...
go to wann, especially their happy hour, eat, talk, be happy. -

Bunch of us went to happy hours before out Rocky Horror Show. The place is nice with good decor. We sat @ the 6 people booth but it was not very comfortable. There are barely leg room and booth shake a little when people sat next to us.
As for food, there were few good items yet other was just ok. Since this is fusion food there was not a long list for sushi. Since I don't eat raw sushi and ordered few item like California roll (which was just ok) and some other items. What got me little confuse with that they don't even serve Wakeme (seaweed sushi).
I don't think i will go there again was interesting but not worth it. -
Review from Sarah L.
If lucky charms are magically delicious, then Wann is surprisingly delicious. Minus the Styrofoam marshmallows.
So I had my suspicions to go to Wann for a while for a couple of things. One, their Happy Hour lasts till 7pm, which says to me, they extend the times to entice more people in to increase business to make up for bad food. So I related that to the god-awful Gamas a few streets away.
Two, its in Belltown, the yuppieville-douche baggery neighborhood (enough said there).
And three, I once had a roommate that accepted terrible sushi because she was cheap, who raved about this place.
Well I will be the first to say that my misconceptions kept me from enjoying tasteworthy, affordable sushi. I was pleasantly happy with the food and service from Wann!
The hits: $10 for a generous portion sashimi plate with 2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, albacore, white fish, and octopus! $3 seaweed salad, $5 salmon collar, which was deliciously crispy broiled black on the outside, while oozing omega 3 oilyness on the inside, and any of the rolls for $4-5.
The misses: $5 chicken yakisoba, HUGE portion, but lots of mayo and sesame oil, very fatty tasting, not acid to help cut through all the grease to get that nice "clean" Japanese flavor. $1 miso: it was cold. Sad panda. But I wasn't about to send back a $1 bowl of soup so I just slurped it down. $3 edemame, pass. Not very fresh, bland, tough with no lovely chunky sea salt.
So $37 later for a boatload of pretty good eats will have me come back again. For happy hour. Either than that I'll have to throw down my Passport card or use a http://restaurant.com coupon. In other words, don't pay full price for this place -
Review from Robert K.
This is what you call a "trendy" Japanese restaurant. The food is average or below depending on the dishes. The pricing is definitely high for what you are getting in terms of quality and taste, I would definitely head to chinatown or other japanese restaurants.
Disclaimer: I claim to be a good judge at asian food, particular Japanese being one of them. I do have a bias towards more authentic style Japanese food and focus on the overall value.
Hint: parking sucks but obvious in downtown so don't judge over that, I never do. Happy hour is a better value but there's not that much or great on it. Service is good though it almost never influences my rating.
Would I go back, preferably not unless my buddies wanted to go there. -

Good Selection on the happy hour menu. Waitress was very nice once she got around to serving us.
I think they are running understaffed. We stood for at least 10 min in the entry way before anyone even bothered to acknowledge us.
