Walmart gives consumers the lowest prices at an arguable cost. Whether Walmart is good or bad for the economy or society as a whole is debatable. Never the less, it has become the inevitable result of a world searching for the best deals available.

To some, Walmart is a Mega-corp bully engaging in questionable and exploitative practices on its way to become one of the largest business in the world with over 400 billion in yearly revenues! Over 100 million people shop at Walmart in any given week in the US alone.

Critics allegedly said Walmart under pays employees and forced some to work unpaid overtime. The fact is that the company's pay is slightly below the industry average but it's understandable when most of the stores are located in lower income/wages areas. It is also commonly said that Walmart squeezes vendors and forcing them to produces goods at lower prices in third world countries.  WalMart also hurts small communities by forcing mom and pop stores out of business. Well, that's the nature of a free economy. People are free to buy where they want; there's a BC owned Price Smart and a Canadian Tire across the street from this Walmart. The "soul" of a community is based on the actions of the people that live there. There must be a reason why they choose to buy stuff from Walmart instead of other places. The public is better served with a wider selection of goods at lower prices.

Walmart does tend to have lower prices then the competition on a lot of items. For example on a recent trip, a 2.95 L of Tide detergent cost about $12.00 compare to $16 at Zellers, Safeway, and Price smart. I bought some blackberries and blueberries for $2 compared to $5-6 at Safeway.

I really like the location of this Walmart as it's literally side by side with Price Smart, Canadian Tire and Superstore. It really gives people more choices to shop for the lowest price and keeps the competition on it toes.

Overall, Walmart is on average better for the local economy it serves. It helps consumers get more for their hard earned money and it stimulates it's suppliers to achieve greater efficiencies for lower prices that can be passed on to consumers. Walmart is an example of how capitalism is supposed to work and something Adam Smith would agreed upon in that the exchange of goods at low prices benefit both parties.

Hurray Wal-Mart! The baddest cowboy on the great frontier of capital; the barter of quality (consumer) vs profit (provider). And I explain.

You go in to a store expecting quality goods for reasonable prices. When the price drops enough quality becomes insignificant, but with big ticket items the quality is of the utmost importance. Wal-Mart manages to attain items at prices where you just hardly don't care how long they last, be it a beard trimmer at $12 or a  vacuum at $30. So anyone complaining about the durability or quality of a product here simply does not get it.

But beyond that, a certain aesthetic prevails all of these items. It is a packaged and new just out of the box look that is so distinctly... Wal-Mart! They're items have as much of an image as any signature retailer. That image of "you're pretty dumb for getting that, no matter how cheap you got it for," belongs to Wal Mart.

So why two stars? Because if you don't care about rules, you can play with their stock and displays until you get kicked out. This location even has these awesome battery-powered scooters you can't take outside, so people with legitimate disabilities still need their own wheelchair to enter. And I'm sure, if you're as calloused to their needs as I am, you can ride around at a walking pace in a fucking aisle-sized tank without feeling bad for the morbidly obese

Also, you can find good deals on seasonal underwear you're going to throw out in 4 months. Think thermal! Yeah!

Darn it... so much for supporting a Canadian company.  I usually shop at Superstore for groceries, but with Walmart's prices, I now have to split my time between the two.

You honestly cannot beat their prices sometimes.  You want some yogurt?  $1.  How much are the pringles?  $1.  What about frozen pizzas? $3 my friend!  The WHOOOLE pizza.

Walmart gives the lowest cost?  BS...my local Donald's Market is cheaper than this Walmart.  What else?  Staff was worthless.  Basically no organic products or produce.  Plastic sopping bags that rip just from the car ride home.  Zero reason to ever come here.

The prices at this store are usually advertised to be lower than their competitors, but sometimes it could be actually higher. You should know your prices because sometimes Superstore or even Safeway has better prices than Wal-Mart, and you don't need to support a bad company. The employees do not provide as good of a service to the customer compared to other grocery chains that pays their employees higher. I would only shop at walmart occasionally because if you think of it, sometimes the prices are just not enough for me to drive my car just for minimal savings. You MUST need to know your prices before shopping here or your not getting as good of a deal as think you are! Also one more tip, the school supplies can be found for cheaper at Staples and Superstore with better quality.

Everything you need under one roof!!

When I don't need bulk, I shop here... which is everyday!  1st place would go to Costco, but I can't eat 3 loaves of bread myself... so Walmart it is!

I try to come here later at night to avoid all the people, line-ups, and bad parking.  At least it's better than..... *ahem* Richmond....  Price is fair, but then do tend to run out of things here and there (flour, confectioner sugar, or bread crumbs).  Good thing there's Superstore down the block.  Otherwise, my usual spot to stop in for daily needs.

Why am I reviewing Walmart you ask? Because I love this store! Sure it's a huge international mega-corporation that is bent on taking over the world and digs the graves of small businesses (too bad for small businesses) but this place seriously has everything you could ever need or want: food, groceries, clothes, electronics, entertainment, household appliances, pharmacy, pet supplies, outdoor, indoor, gardening, fitness equipment etc. I could spend hours in here looking at all the different stuff and not get bored...and if you've seen the commercials, they carry "George" the women's clothing brand that makes women stalk other women who are wearing George hahaha

    Ex-Costo location.

I like that it is open until 11pm and that it's a lot cheaper than Safeway. I usually buy grocery items and maybe kitchen gadgets but as for the other stuff just looking for a great deal!

I have to say, I love this place!  I live in Burnaby and usually shop at Safeway, which can cost quite a bit.
When I found this place and started doing some of my shopping there as well, I was SO shocked at the price difference between the two.
This Wal-Mart has just about EVERYTHING I need.  And my co-workers and I love it!

I have to say that having a Walmart around the area of Grandview Hwy and Rupert has definately helped the area. Before, this building was a Costco, and if you were not a member, you were not getting in, and you were probably shopping at Superstore up the block. Once people heard that Walmart was going to be there, I think the first thing was fear, as Walmart is known as a business killer, I think that it has made this area become more competitive, and also gives people options as to where to shop.

If you really wanted to shop, and spend acouple hours, you could start at Walmart, loop to the Price Smart, then end of at Superstore. They all practically offer the same thing, or variants of things. This Walmart tries to offer everything, from produce, to meat, to a bakery, and all the other things accoustomed to this type of store. When you walk in you realize that this is just one big box of a store. High ceilings, cement floor, isles that stretch right to the end, and you think, was Costco, when they were here, this big?

The parking is ok, as I would rather find parking here, than go into the Superstore lot. The location is pretty hidden, as if you didn't know the area, and you were driving on Grandview Hwy, you wouldn't see the store, as it is on lower ground.

A rose is a rose is a rose.
    And a Wal-Mart is a Wal-Mart, is a Wal-Mart.

Having never been in a Wal-Mart before I was lucky enough to visit not one, but two Wal-Marts over my Xmas Holidays.  And by 'lucky' I mean....well, don't know what I mean but not great experiences.

For some reason my my partner and my daughter both decided they wanted to visit this location on New Years Eve.  Perhaps they had visions of a 24-hour party where we could watch the ball drop in Times Square on hundreds of tvs and supply ourselves with snacks and drinks.  Perhaps they imagined some sort of festive, good-natured, love thy neighbour gala.  Perhaps my family is brain damaged.  In either case, they closed at 6pm on NYE (as they SHOULD) so our evening wasn't to be.

We decided to visit there in the afternoon and this is what I found:
    Bright
    Smelly (overly scented)
    Understaffed
Understocked.  They had filled some sections of empty shelves with large empty plastic bins.  Shelves and shelves of large green Rubbermaid containers next to each other.   Bizarre.

The express lanes share a single cue lane which weaves back and forth behind the 8 or so express tills.  Sadly, they only had 2 of these open and there were about 100 people waiting.  Simple logic tells you that its the number of people in the line, not how much they have, that determines how long it takes to serve them.  We left the items we'd planned to buy and left the store.

I guess I could consider myself lucky to have made it out alive.  Lesson learned, never to return.  Well except for visiting the Squamish location a few days later but other than that NEVER AGAIN.

I like this location for the inexpensive
Dental scrubs which go for sometimes as little as $15 a top or pant (compared to up to $60 per paid elsewhere).

Additionally general household items are great here from bed linen to pots & pans.

If you are seeking any kind of craft/hobby supply you're outta luck as this location decided they didnt need to offer it (goto North Van or Coquitlam instead).

I'd still much rather cross the border to go visit a Wal-Mart, especiall in Oregon where it's tax exempt. But for things like handweights, this one will do. The foods (if they're in stock) are quite inexpensive compared to Save-On, Safeway, and sometimes even Superstore.

The Costco-look of this Wal-Mart isn't too appealing either. I realized after visiting here that I kind of like the white vinyl floors and fluorescent lighting combination. It makes the place look more approachable.

I know...sooooooo white trash of me to give a Wal-Mart 5 stars..and I won't apologize for it 'cause this new Super Center rocks my world and makes me smile:)

For years Wal-Mart has been trying to open a store in Vancouver to much debate and out cry from local business' and residence...well..I am sure to the dismay of some..they finally found a home and opened this weekend..and I for one and super excited they did!!

It must be the prairie boy in me..there is just something about Wal-Mart that makes me so happy...and this uber Wal-Mart takes the cake...they have everything..even a full grocery department...the cheapest meat I have ever seem..6 pack of boneless skinless chicken breasts for $7.99??? and it's fresh...CRAZY!!!!!!! They are certainly going to give Super Store a run for their money...

Of course they carry all the usual Wal-Mart stuff.....home appliances..clothes...electronics..shoes...out door furniture...plants...it really is a one stop shop..and boy did I shop!!!

One complaint...I was wanted to buy a vacuum and there was no stock on the floor..so I stopped a lady in a Wal-Mart uniform and asked for help..she said it wasn't her department and I should find someone else..I had already been looking for someone for 10 mins I told her...she suggested that I continue to look or come back later...hmmmm...not exactly top notch service but I guess what should I expect..it's Wal-Mart...I did eventually find someone and I am now the proud owner of a Bissel bag less easy vac! YAY!

The Costco look of this Wal-Mart comes from the fact that this USED to be a Costco - until Costco came to its senses and realized this is a TERRIBLE location in a decaying building.

This Wal-Mart is lucky that people even find it. With the Guildford and North Vancouver locations, Wal-Mart is decidedly the anti-McDonald's - meaning they could care less about quality real estate (locations).

At least in the United States they have the decency to place locations just off interstate exits.

How did I miss this Walmart before?

One night before Christmas I had to hit it up - it is tradition to go to Walmart at some absurd time when it's open 24 hours. In this case it was because I needed rice crackers and Swifter Wet Jet liquid.

I totally forgot super Walmart had a full grocery store.

So my likes were cheap cream cheese, a decent selection of gluten free food at a very reasonable price (comparatively), and their dried fruit and nuts. My usual pesto was also here, also cheap.

I was so loaded with groceries we didn't really get to look at other stuff. And some rude customer and dropped the worst fart ever in the pasta aisle which had me gagging while locating my pesto then evacuating as quickly as possible after I found it.

The cashier that rang us through was actually delightful. It was a positive WalMart experience for all!

Is America cool again?  There was an awesome article on Beyond Robson asking that- in reference to the new Wal-Mart opening.  Previous attempts by the store to get a building zoned for their stores, have always been stopped by municipal government officials.  This time they took over an abandoned Costco building, and didn't have to go through the zoning department.

So is Wal-Mart accepted by Canadians?  There's a lot of evil things attached to this ginormous corporation.  Some we could call rumors, some we just call facts.

Despite HATING wal-mart.  I do shop there.  So let me give you the reasons I shop there: cheap prices.  $1/yd fabrics in the craft section.  This week at the grand opening, they had pineapples 2 for $5.  Gulp- at my local grocer, one pineapple is $5.49.

I'm happy to have a Wal-Mart within a reasonable distance.  I am also glad that it's just one.  Vancouver, be vigilant- keep Wal-Marts in check.  In America, you can often find 3 of these monster stores within a 6 block radius- no joke.

Worst walmart I've ever been to. There is hardly any parking in the lot and the whole thing just looks so ghetto compared to the one they built around the same time in White rock.

Shopping in the store, everything seems dimly let. There was an instance in which my girlfriend went to get some dish soap and there was a huge support beam in the way of the products they had laid out.

I know this location is technically Vancouver but common it's so in Burnaby.
