Bring on the $2.99 sushi rolls which include the California, Bakudan and Dynamite. This place is cheaper than sushi train and better quality. It's just a little take-out joint but great if you're in the hood and must satisfy that sushi craving.
Go sit in a near-by park like Richardson and have a romantic sushi date for under $15. -
Review from Dallas H.
This place was so cheap I was expecting it to suck. Dynamite Roll for $2.99? Yeah right!
Turns out everything was fully legit. All my rolls were big & beautiful, and after spending $11 (tax included) on takeout my appetite was fully satiated.
For the regulars there's also a handy rewards card.
Five stars because, for what Wako aims to be--an inexpensive, healthful, tasty lunch--and within a radius of hundreds of miles, this really is as good as it gets. -

This is a great inexpensive take out place for sushi! I have to admit that I didn't think much of this place when I first looked at the prices posted on the door a few months ago. Winnipeg has seen an explosion of sushi restaurants over the last couple of years so it's hard to figure out the good ones from the bad ones. I remember just five years ago when there were only a handful of sushi restaurants around the city. Now, it's so common and mainstream that you can even get sushi at Sobeys and Superstore.
I tried it recently and have become a fan! Like Dallas, I did expect the rolls to suck since it was so inexpensive compared to other places. But yeah, Bakudon (6 pieces) for $2.99! You could actually taste the sriracha which isn't really the case at other places.
The spicy scallop roll ($6.99) has chopped scallop, mayo, fish egg and hot & sweet sauce. Great job on this roll, I find that other places put way too much mayo in it. The beach roll ($3.99) has crab meat, tempura crumb, fish egg, mayo and hot sauce. This is my new fav roll - I loved how the flavours melded together.
For 6 pieces of salmon sashimi ($9.99), it was decent but not my fav. I like really fatty flavourful salmon. This one tasted okay but I've had better.
Rice was decent - good texture, not wet or overly sticky. The size of the rolls were a good size - not too big, not too small.
Actually, most of the regular maki, inside out and vegetarian rolls ranged from $2.99 to $4.99. The more elaborate rolls are about $6.99 to $10.99. The goma ae salad ($3.99) for boiled spinach and sesame dressing was pretty good. They didn't mix the dressing throughout the spinach but that was fine with me.
They offered extra soy sauce but I would've preferred extra wasabi and ginger (next time I'll ask for that). Service was friendly and warm. The place has bar seating facing Corydon that can fit 2 people who want to eat on the go, but it's mostly a take out place. You can park on Corydon or in the Breads & Circuses parking lot for a quick pick up.
They provide a "VIP bonus card" - you earn 5% of your order when it's over $10 and it becomes redeemable once your card is over $10. My order came under $30, at another place, it would've easily been $45. I can't wait to go back!
