Review from Joanna N.
There are so many dim sum places in Vancouver. This place is ok.
Their deep fried squid and wah lun BBQ pork sandwiches are good. Parking can be difficult-there's only a small lot. And the restaurant gets pretty packed, so not ideal for large drop-in parties. But service is good here. -
Review from Edward L.
I always thought that (based on driving by) Wah Lun would be some cheesy Westernized Chinese restaurant serving sweet and sour pork, mainly because of the "fake" palace-style exterior. I was completely wrong. It's actually a very decent restaurant. Tasty dishes, and GREAT value.
Parking is available in a small lot along the side, but there are only 20 or so spots. Try Hastings, or the side streets if this lot is full.
The interior has recently been renovated, and looks surprisingly upscale. The walls are shiny and clean, and the ceiling is nice and bright. Service was a bit rushed, but I don't blame them. The staff were running around the whole time we were there.
We fed 9 people for some $100 using their set menu (came to about $12/person at the end including tax and tip). Talk about a good deal. There were some 8 dishes, and while the items were not upscale (for example, no shark fin or lobster included), they were very satisfying, and decently tasty. The soy BBQ duck was especially worth a mention, with a nice smoky flavour. The grilled fish was done well, but the soy sauce was WAY too salty. As you can see, the items were hit or miss.
It's a half-decent place to keep in mind if you want to hold a banquet-style dinner in the area, but it could also use a bit of work. -

After coming here for dim sum 3 times I had really become hopeful that I have found a decent, casual chinese restaurant that would fill my Congee Noodle King void now that I am far removed from the usual conveniences that living in Vancouver had to offer.
Last night my hubby and I decided we were ready to try their dinner menu ($32.95 for two--comes with soup, chicken or duck, two entrees, and dessert). There were only 4 or 5 tables occupied at 9:00am so we were swiftly seated. We ordered Sweet & Sour Pork and Beef & Gailan (Chinese Broccoli). The waitress did mistakenly punch in the wrong item, but it was quickly fixed after I noticed it on the receipt she placed down on the table. The food came pretty quickly. First we got a big serving of soup, and then the entrees. This is where it started to get bad.
We never got any tea, which is standard. We didn't bother asking since I didn't care. We then got our two big bowls of rice (I love my white rice) and I noticed a peculiar pungent smell--sort of like wet socks. Upon closer inspection I realized both rice bowls reeked of some putrid smell that can only be indication that the place was unclean and/or there were improper food handling practices. We lost our appetite, but ate as much as we could before we departed, praying to the food poisoning Gods that we were going to be ok. It has now been over 24 hours, and I am relieved to report no ill consequences despite the fact that I am now turned off a restaurant that I felt had so much promise.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Finally found my local dim sum restaurant. Yay! The outside is reminiscent of the old Dragon Inn… Read more »

Review from Annie M.
Vancouver, BC
Good for big group gathering here. I came here with my hubby's friends for dinner. We ordered the 10-course set dinner and extra dish for 12 people. The dishes were huge and good enough for 14 ppl,
Well... paid for such little amount $12-$15 per head for 11 dishes and shouldn't have any expectation of quality of food.
Most of the dishes were looked good, but not the taste!!
Cold appy - Jelly fish (tasteless), marinated beef (so dry), fried shrimp (salty) and chicken karaage (greasy)
Deep fried pork chop with walnuts in salad dressing - taste funny and sticky saucing.
Stir fried Chicken and prawns with green beans and celeries - it's ok.
House Special Duck - not impressed.
Live crab with noodles - Crab was delicious but the noodles was so soaky.
Chinese mushroom with veggie - Poor quality of mushroom and veggie wasn't fully cooked.
Deep fried chicken - It wasn't free range chicken and meat wasn't tender.
Steamed live fish - I would say this is the best dish for the night.
Stir fried seafood fried rice - I didn't try it that's why couldn't comment. -

Review from I live to eat ..
I really love the dim sum here. It's probably the best around this area. If you come on the weekend, good luck getting a table. I didn't get a chance to eat dinner here. I will come back for sure and find out

Not many good places in Burnaby north for Chinese food but this place is ok. The chicken wasn't fresh, but the pepper beef, steamed fish, shrimp & broccoli, jelly fish with pork hoc, was good.
