Free Wi-Fi works for me, but for Ottawa, really. I've seen nicer places in remote locations. Needs a facelift.

The security here is odd, they do check you, but its pretty easy to smuggle stuff in using your travel bag. But its well organized.

The Ottawa Greyhound Station on Catherine Street has needed a serious makeover for all the years I have lived in Ottawa.  The building from the outside looks ugly and depressing and the inside is no better.  There is a small variety store where travellers can grab a magazine and a cafe, but no other options for relaxing before travel.  The cafe does not offer many food options, most of them not very healthy or fresh.  The cafe is loud and definitely not relaxing.

Departure gates are close together and it is often hard to tell what line you are supposed to be in.  Washrooms are near the gates, but seem like they havent been renovated since the 80s.  There is a games room, which is always empty near the entrance.  Generally, the station just needs some updating and some quiet areas put in for relaxing.

This place needs a serious face lift.

For anyone just pulling into Ottawa on a bus I feel embarrassed if they have to spend too much time at the station.

It's quite old, small and there is rarely any options for food/drinks inside the place or within a short walk.

The location of the bus station is fairly handy - just off the 417 Highway and located between Bank and Bronson Streets.

If you plan to wait for your bus or have to wait for someone to pick you up be sure to have your own snacks or drinks because the cafe inside the building seems to be open at random hours.

I try to avoid taking the Greyhound but when I do I think the worst part of the experience is actually at the Ottawa bus station.  Thankfully there are talks in progress to move this station to a new facility.

I just recently visited this station, as I was travelling back and forth to Toronto for the holidays.

I was reminded of how convenient the express machines were - they don't have these in Toronto. The line for Toronto usually begins at the very front, and since I was early, I thought I'd go to the washroom and grab something to eat first.

Well, the washrooms were being cleaned for what felt like a lifetime, so I tried to get something to eat while I waited for the janitor to be finished. I went to the cafe and scoped out their sandwiches, since I wanted a meal versus a snack. None of the sandwiches had signs on them so who knows what they were. I wasn't about to ask the person to name me every single kind, so I randomly chose one in my head. No one at the counter paid any attention to me, even though it wasn't very busy and I was standing there for quite some time. This was probably for the best, though, since the second I was finally asked if I needed help, I spotted the sign at the register that said "cash only". I got too lazy to rush to the ATM, and with the holidays, I wanted to save every penny I had, and decided to avoid getting charged to use the ATM machine. I ended up just sucking it up and waiting for the halfway stop to buy a sandwich, sleeping off the hunger in the meantime. Geez. I was able to get on the first bus, which left early, so at least I could be thankful for that.
