Been here a few times, and usually quite consistent. As usual, I'm a big fan of tamago sushi, it's a bit on the smaller side but it's made in-house, which is rare for a Chinese-owned resto. Most would outsource this as it takes awhile to make. I still would rank Samurai's tamago better.
The pork Gyoza is ok, good value.
Same for the Tonkatsu Don, deep fried pork, egg & the lovely green onions---wow this humungus for $7.50. Guaranteed good for lunch leftovers tomorrow!
But I'd recommend their special rolls, like the Dragon Roll & Rainbow. Yeah, I know i'm boring lol.
Like their high booths and casual atmosphere. -

I'm downgrading this place a little bit - last night's dinner was pretty disappointing. The rolls were soggy and falling apart, the sauce on the gomae had a gross texture and we waited far too long for our meal - something that has been consistently a problem here whenever we've ordered.
I don't mind if a place is busy when I call and place an order; just tell me to come whenever you honestly think the food will be ready, be it 20 minutes, 30 minutes or whatever. What really bothers me is when I'm told 15 minutes, but once I arrive on time, I need to wait another 20. Who knows when our agedashi tofu was fried, but by the time I got it home it was cold and crusty.
The only winners from last night's dinner were the spicy tuna sashimi (I love how the pieces are tossed with green onion and tobiko along with the spicy sauce) and the inari, which is hard to mess up.
This place definitely has promise, and considering some of my meals have been pretty good, I'm content to stick with a 3 star review...for now...Listed in: Hastings Sunrise - the best…, Cheap Sushi

I would really say that this place is a 3.5 star restaurant in my opinion. I wish yelp could give out 1/2 stars :)
I've been here a few times because my friend really enjoys eating at this place.
I went here at around 4:45pm on a Monday, so the service was pleasant. They came by quite often to fill our teas without us asking.
The food, I've had the bee teriyaki before, which is great if you love sprouts. They load their dish with sprouts but not a lot of meat with the proportion. I also had the Kimchi Ramen, which is good, the broth is nice, and is to a usual standard of ramen. Don't expect it to be spectacular, but not to be bad either. Average.
The sushi rolls are good, and the fish is fresh. I still think we're so spoiled in Vancouver when it comes to fish, because I've probably been to two places that had fish that made me want to spit out.
Volcano offers a high quality fish that has become the standard in Vancouver. The rolls are different, and elegantly designed, and I had the dragon roll which I liked.
This may not be my exact cup of tea, but I would recommend people to try it out for themselves and see how they like the roll. And if my friend wants to suggest us going there, I've got no problems going back. -

I was really skeptical about going here as the location couldn't sustain several other restaurants in the past. It turns out my apprehension was silly and unfounded.
The good here is great, the service is good. Their chicken curry or teriyaki is good, decent rolls~about average, and their special rolls are pretty good too.
If you want a good deal, I'd say come for lunch and pick items from their lunch special combo. They do the same for dinner, but price wise, lunch is a better deal. -

Volcano is my sushi stand by- I love this place! What makes Volcano incredibly amazing is that the entire menu is totally affordable. The service is friendly and fast, and the newly renovated dinning room is nice and relaxing. Volcano is East Van's best kept secret!

For lazy peeps who want sushi, the good thing is that they deliver. We tried the food a couple of months ago and are still ordering. The portions are tasty and a good size. You should try the real crab roll or spicy chicken. The cook delivered our order once they were so busy.

Hmmm, as I recall, this is where the old Wonton Noodle Restaurant used to be, but now stands a new sushi joint. Renovated, redecorated, and ready to serve.... wonton soup? Lol Interesting to see a Japanese restaurant offer miso or wonton soup. So now I get skeptical.... The staff looks different... I think.
My girlfriend and I had Shrimp Sunomono, Volcano Roll, Spider Roll, and a lunch special. Good thing about the shrimp sunomono is that they used rock shrimp and not the little baby shrimps. The bad? Vinegar was too sour and the dish was too bland. They have lunch specials there for 6.50 and you choose 1 item from column A (Teri beef, chicken, curry, etc) and B (rolls). I ordered Curry Chicken and Spicy Tuna Roll. I got Chicken Teriyaki instead....... I guess she didn't hear me, but I was too hungry to care lol. The chicken was good and so was the veg (warning: veg was heavily peppered if you are sensitive to it), also came with a side of rice which was perfectly cooked. The spicy tuna roll that came with it was actually 8 large pieces and not 4 dinky ones that I was expecting like most other places. Okay, spicy tuna is pretty easy to make and you can't go wrong, but my problem was the rice. Rice was slightly over cooked, gummy and lacked seasoning. The spider roll was the same, loved the inside and not the rice on the outside. Volcano roll (I guess is their signaiture roll), was a bit dissapointing. The menu had no description of the roll, but we ordered it anyways. Crab, well done tuna, rice, nori, deep-fried and then drizzled with cock sauce (aka sriracha), mayo, teriyaki sauce, and topped with green onions.
Good portions, great price, so-so quality and if you go now they offer 20% off for their Grand Opening. If you do go and try for yourself, I suggest getting the lunch special cause that's probably the best deals there. -

It's an accessible sushi restaurant on this section of east Hastings street. The food was not bad but they really messed up my bill when there was only one other table being served. Being overcharged for items neither table was having just gave me bad suspicions. But given other people's somewhat more positive reviews I may try this place again when I'm craving Japanese but don't want to go too far or spend too much. The next closest Japanese restaurant (Koko) is a block away but is twice the cost because of its authenticity by a long time Japanese chef.
