    Is this spot open?

Its a Thursday afternoon, and I see the chairs piled up through the windows. Viva's looks like a fun time... but unfortunately I'm unsure where it stands. At the prime time business hours, the doors are locked; the lights are off. I'm intrigued, but have no means of quenching my inquires.

As I peer beyond the glass door, I notice ample spacing and a modern,  opened-ended kitchenette. The area appears as one huge gourmet kitchen-- no closed doors, walls or nooks.

Vivas... I want to get in and try your tastings. But this is the second time I've noticed you closed at odd hours. What is the deal? I'm hopefully we can begin something special... just stop playing hard to get.

Yes, only three stars but I predict a fourth in their future!

Viva's has had a very shaky start ever since their opening a few years back. In the beginning it was great, then it was bad, now its climbing back up. They have new staff, a new design on the inside and a bit better quality on the same menu.

Today I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger and a side Caesar Salad. In my mind, this is something that should be pretty easy to do right. And the burger wasn't that bad. Was it huge, juicy and filled with cheese and mushrooms? No. It places about average on the burger scale for restaurants. The Caesar salad was a whole other story. I can tell right away when there is a meat eater making salad. They generally think a Caesar is lettuce, croutons and dressing. But its so much more than that. And a bad salad is a dead giveaway when telling the customer's how much thought you put into your food. They also drowned my Caesar with dressing. Now I love dressing! But this was too much, even for me.

The reason this restaurant gets three stars is that it really is improving and I can see it. I will be coming back to try more of their food but not because I am an optimist. The staff are extremely friendly and have an amazing attitude. It looks like fun working here. And that is so important for customer's to see and hear. The laughter of staff enjoying themselves.

The only other thing to note is the music is a bit too loud and the lighting is a bit too dim for 2:00 pm. But as I've said, this place has improved greatly and I am taking that into account. So I give them a solid three stars in hopes that a fourth or even, dare I say, a fifth will come into their world in the near future.
