Needing a break from Christmas food we met some friends here for dinner.
My quick list:
1. Decor is tacky and colourful and happy inducing... not everything needs to black and stainless to be fun.
2. Service was friendly but slowish - not that it was a problem really - no rush to leave.
3. Huge giant mega portions... only the boys in our group finished their meals.
4. Sangria pitcher was awesome and my friend said her half litre mojito was great.
5. Food was tasty and what you would expect - the menu is huge with a massive selection.
I have eaten here in Summer and enjoyed the patio mariachi band. I suspect that some of the underwhelmed reviews on this place were probably well deserved and is dependent on who is working that particular time... I think they have some family members who are quicker or slower than others.
It is a small local place that does great food and isn't a chain... for that alone they get an extra star. -

This is the third time Ive been here, and probably will be my last.
Went on a Saturday with my girlfriend. It was about a 10 minute wait, because this place is small (~12 tables). Sat down and immediately the waitress asked for drinks, as she is handing us a drink menu.
The chips and salsa you get was quite good.
I ordered the enchiladas with a chimichanga, and my girlfriend the tamales. Wait was about 30 minutes. My enchiladas had almost no sauce, and what little there was it was dried up from the broiler. they were pretty flavorless, and had nothing but some chicken. Also, my beans were really dry, and my rice hard and crunchy. Chimichango was flat and greasy. Very disappointing. My girlfriends tamales had a thick amount of dough, with flavorless dry chicken and beef on top. Not much sauce, and the same dry beans/rice.
My girlfriend ordered a Jamaica hibiscus drink, which was pretty good.
The worst part was after we had finished ee waited almost 30 minutes for our waitress, but she never came back. Even after getting up and asking, she didn't come back (just stayed busy). So we went up and the bartender gave us some to-go containers, while I paid for the meals.
The other two times I went weren't anything too special, but the food was better. The service was better as well. Even though still really slow at dinner time.
Overall this place just isn't it for great Mexican food for dinner. Might be better for lunch, but at dinner, its not worth it for the price,(which was up there). -

I thought Mexican food would hit the spot tonight. My husband and I had eaten here a few years ago & it was ok. I have to admit we are from northern California & a tad spoiled having eaten in the Mission in SF, but even gringo Mexican food can really satisfy.
#1 This place is so is so crazy loud you cannot hear any conversation & shouting is necessary. The music is good but is painfully loud. When I got home my ears were ringing.
#2 This small restaurant has 3 large TV's which shows videos of very interesting Mexican footage but it is very distracting. If I wanted to eat dinner with television, I'd eat at home and watch the Discovery Channel. I noticed most men with dates were watching TV & Ignoring their dinner partner. (Good going guys.) Except for hockey night in Canada, TV should be turned OFF in this restaurant.
#3 The food is bland & unappetizing. I ordered a chiie relleno and chicken enchilada with mole sauce. When served, I noticed that the food was luke warm & the chicken enchilada only had about a teaspoon of mole sauce on the bottom. With no sauce it was a completely unadorned boring enchilada. On my plate was a fried rectangle that looked nothing like a chiie relleno. I asked the waiter what it was. He said that, oops, the restaurant had run out of chile rellenos & they substituted a chimichanga. I told the waiter if I had known that, I would have ordered another dish. I asked to get an order of beef tacos. I figured they couldn't screw those up.
Wrong. The taco shells were really good & crispy but the ground beef was completely unseasoned other than a pinch of salt. On top of the beef was about 1/4 c of salty generic tomato salsa that tasted like it was canned. Tacos are one of my very favorite foods but I couldn't eat these. That's saying a lot for me.
#4 The waiter was pleasant enough but we waited until we were growing moss for the food and the bill. My husband disliked his food as well & mentioned he wished we had gone across the street to My Thai instead. Not a good evening
This is a shame because the interior & atmosphere is really fun and inviting but does not make up for the major faults. -

Five star Mexican in Langley... really?
Oh yes really!
*Far from home* and not liking the thought of a chain restaurant, and frankly with a wicked taco craving, a quick Yelp searched turned up Viva Mexico. Decidedly my dining partner and I were there.
Right on the cute little "Downtown" strip, Viva Mexico is just full of, well, Mexican kitch. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and sat at a table by the window (lovely view of my car parked out front). And then the chips and salsa hit the table. This is a fantastic start to any dinner for me.
Now, the trouble with the menu was everything sounded delicious. And I heart anything with a corn tortilla since I can't have the wheat ones. Totally confused, should I have a taco, an enchilada, and if either which one? Eeeep I hate decisions! I settled on the 6 taco platter, half chicken mole, half beef.
Can I note that I like halfsies?
Our food was served up super quick, which is a thumbs up when you're as hungry as I was. Being an utter klutz I knocked my fork onto the ground almost immediately. Before I could even pick it up one server was rushing over with a new one for me. I am handicapped when it comes to dispensing Tabasco sauce, but stubborn, and said server also gave me three separate bottles of Tabasco sauce when he saw me having trouble with one, then the next and supervised and showed me how to make the third one more agreeable.
How often do you service as attentive as that?
Seriously?
My tacos came with a side of rice and the refried beans (hope that's right, the mushed ones you know what I mean). Utterly stuffed from my six tacos (I usually would eat three, but they were too delish) I gav'em a go, and usually not a fan of the mushed beans but they were soo good.
Stuffed up to my eye balls, the plates were cleared and check delivered in that perfect timing.
I am such a fan I'm going to have to think of excuses to go to all the way to Langley just to go to Viva Mexico. I kid you not.
Five spicy stars for Viva Mexico :D -

A little underwhelmed
Went there recently. There were about 14 patrons total, including my party of four. Got a Corona to start, and while it did have the requisite lime, it wasn't very cold for whatever reason. I ordered the Enchiladas de Mole Pablano. It was alright, but didn't make a great impression. To be clear, this is solid, good Mexican food, but nothing earth shattering. Mole sauce can be tricky, but it was fine here. The other restaurant (Cieto Lindo) about 6 stores away has better food...
It wasn't just my food, I tried everyones with the same reult: Decent, but no flavour explosions, nothing to yelp to you about! ;) -

Love this restaurant!
The feel is very authentic and the food is excellent. I highly recommend there margarita's and the enchilada's suiza. I've tried most of the items on the menu, but continue to come back the the Suiza.
Recently had my 30th bday party here with 35 people and they did the best job of a large party I have ever witnessed. The service is excellent, if a little slow. -

Standard Mexican restaurant in a hillbilly little town like Langley. Complimentary chips and salsa upon arrival. Good beers. Didn't try the margaritas. Ordered the chicken fajitas which were good, but definitely not the fajitas you'll get in Mexico or the southern states. Big negative was the flour tortillas. I always prefer corn. Was a really big plate of food, took home a doggy bag. Tasted delicious! Salsa is great. Husband had the burrito which he liked a lot. The decor is fun. It has a patio which looks like it'd be great in the summer. Good service! The waiter was very nice. We will definitely return.

Visited Viva Mexico again last night ~ this place get busier and busier ... and for a reason. Not a chain-type restaurant this place feels and is, authentic .... having visited Mexico many times and like to lean towards the more smaller type eateries in the country, this is a close to it as one can get north of the 2 borders ... had the large Margarita and fish taco's .... lots of guac and chips ..... continue to be a fan.

Thomas was very friendly and the entire staff provided us with excellent customer service! We ordered an enchilada plate with chili verde sauce($12) added a beef chimichanga($5) + 2 Carne asada tacos($4) for my little guy. $21! Awesome food! This is where you want to get your mexican fix!

Great little Mexican restaraunt! We travel to Mexico a few times a year, and have been trying to find somewhere close to home to get our fix! This place has a great atmosphere, delicious authentic Mexican food and the staff are very friendly. Noticed the food wasn't very spicy, but there is habenero sauce on the table, so you can season to taste. Great place, we will definatly be returning!
