Amazing Italian spot! Started with the pear wrapped with brie in prusciutto. Absolutely to die for. I could have eaten a truckload of this as my meal.
On the waiter's recommendation, I got the smoked salmon fettuccine. This was good too but I found myself picking at a lot of it. Smokey and sweet versus salty taste, but as I kept eating, it got sweeter and sweeter.
Fast service compared to most other places we were at in Byward Market that week. Would love to come back. -

Good not great. I came here with huge expectations but left with just an okay meal.
First off they should give me a taste of the wine first before they give me the entire glass. My salad was really salty, and my main had one note flavour (pasta, pancetta and mushrooms).
I'm not in a huge rush to go back. -

Last night was my third time being here and every time it impresses me. The first thing that stands out about this place is the atmosphere. The lights are dim, there is soft music playing, it's instantly relaxing. Of course this was before it got extremely busy, but that's the type of atmosphere I think is ideal to enjoy an amazing meal. :)
So the service I guess is a bit confusing, we had one waiter who came to take our order and give us the bill but we had 2-3 different guys coming along bringing us our food and refilling our drinks. I didn't mind because that meant we didn't really have to wait long for our food. Anyway, I ordered a tortellini with gorgonzola sauce and grapes and a bruschetta to start. My boyfriend ordered a pizza with pine nuts, gorgonzola sauce, prosciutto and figs.
The food took a while, but I didn't mind because we got 2 bowls full of fresh bread. After about twenty minutes we got the bruschetta, which was simple and lovely. The tomatoes were fresh and zesty and the bread was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. After 30 minutes we got our main courses, my tortellini was fantastic. The gorgonzola sauce was bold and rich and almost overpowering but then there were these tiny sweet grapes that contrasted beautifully with the gorgonzola sauce. My boyfriend also said his pizza was amazing, with the same salty/sweet/cheesy deliciousness.
I decided to try a dessert and I went with the white chocolate creme brulee, and I figured out I'm not a creme brulee fan. I've had it before several times from several different places and it's like I keep wanting to like it but I can't. Luckily my boyfriend devoured it, and I've read they make a really good one so perhaps others would find it awesome but I wasn't a fan.
I'll be back again and again. PS. this is a perfect spot to take someone on a date. :) -

Vancouver, BC
So my family from BC calls Thursday afternoon to say they are in town and can I get together for dinner Friday. First of all, how does someone travel from Vancouver to Ottawa without calling ahead? Second, am I the only one that hates hosting people from out of town who expect you to be able to recommend places to go? Maybe it's just because I only moved here briefly for work and am leaving again, but I hate being in that position. OK, I'm venting and I digress. I found myself on Friday afternoon trying to figure out where I can take a party of five, one of whom is underage, and multiple members of which would not be interested in the kind of places I normally go to. That is cheap pho places on Somerset or the Horn of Africa. Too dingy, too "ethnic" and too far to walk for people used to driving everywhere.
So I showed them around the Market and we settled in Vittoria Trattoria because I could see from a quick look that I could find vegan options, plus there were many inoffensive offerings for the elderly, Eurocentric palate. I tend to retreat inward during family gatherings in order to withstand the nagging, so I didn't consider the fact that this was a Friday evening in the Market in July and that seats would be scarce for 5 people. Luckily the hostess could make a table available if we could be out early. Not a problem when operating on grandparent time.
All of us flouted Italian ordering customs and just had pizza or pasta without additional courses or wine. Despite our cheapness and lack of refinement, the staff were charming, attentive and courteous. The food was fast, especially for a packed Friday night (benefit of them wanting you to vacate a table) and very fresh. We were seated upstairs, but on the main floor diners can watch pizzas being made. It was reasonably priced for the area, though the benefit of hosting people from Vancouver is that most things in Ottawa seem cheap. While this is not something I would normally choose for myself (Horn for life!), it served a purpose and I am grateful to the staff for their part in making the family visit more enjoyable. I could see people who are more interested in ambiance, especially of the romantic or stylish nature, also enjoying themselves. -

They've still got it. Nothing beats their pasta dishes. The gorgonzola tortellini with tiny sweet grapes remains one of my favourite dishes. My companion had the potato and mushroom cannelloni. It looked really good too.
Food quality and good service is consistent at both their downtown and Riverside locations. -

Great lunch spot. Have been here several times for lunch and have not been let down. Recently had linguini carbonera which was simply delicious.

Great setting, great service, greasy pizza(cheese). I had to pat mine down with a napkin... I guess this is why a lot of people order pasta here...

The staff were pleasant, attentive and warm and the service was great.
But...
The strip steak was a fatty, flavourless slab. The meat didn't taste like it had been seasoned whatsoever. I had to salt and pepper it myself, a big no-no. I also had to trim a lot of excess fat off the cut which is alright for lamb, but not for beef.
The roast potatoes were messy. There was some attempt to season them in a mild southern/cajun style that didn't complement the other flavours (or lack thereof) on the plate. In fact, there was nothing characteristically 'roasted' about them. Roasted potatoes should be fresh and hot with a slightly crisper outside. These were almost soggy. The fact that the streak was laid over top of them probably didn't help. And there was a sprig of rosemary sticking out of one of the potatoes when the plate arrived, but there wasn't a hint of rosemary flavour anywhere in the entree.
The best thing about dinner was the sauteed mushrooms, mostly because there were two pickled onions that had been sauteed with them. They were the most memorable part of dinner.
I had a glass of Chilean Cab Sauv that was alright but not good enough to remember the name of. Sorry.
The dessert was fairly good though. Vittoria Trattoria has its own take on crème brulée which is made from a white chocolate mousse that was lovely.
In all, it almost seems as though the kitchen is directed and run by a kid straight out of cooking school who doesn't have a sense of elegant refinement. There's room for improvement here, I think. -

This place is horrible. They claim they are the best Italian food in the city but if that's the case Ottawa is really lacking. Poor service plus horrible food makes for a disappointing night. The kicker for me was when the server followed me out of the restaurant asking if I paid! Ha! What a joke.. Do not go here unless you want to be served canned artichokes.

I've been scouring Ottawa for authentic Italian wood fire oven Pizza and Vittoria Trattoria is as close as it gets! When I ordered the "quattro stagioni" pizza and the waiter told me that each of the for toppings came separated on a different quarter of the pizza I knew I was in for a proper Italian pizza. The crust was thin and a bit crispy on the edges from the wood fire it was outstanding, although a bit expensive. They have an outstandingly huge list of wines sorted not only by white and red but by different countries and regions within countries. You could spend the evening choosing your wine.. :)

I've been there three times, and every time was spot on. This is a great restaurant to visit if you're in the mood to spend some money on some delicious and filling food. I've ordered 2 pastas (can't remember which ones now, they're all good as far as I can tell), and both were immaculate. There is a huge wine selection, the service is great (even though they leave you hanging when it comes time for the check now and then), and the desserts are ridiculously good. Get the Zuccotto - it's awesome. The cheesecake is pretty good too, but not something you can't get elsewhere.
