Everytime I go to Vi's, I always swear I'm going to have pie. I mean, it must be good. It's called Vi's for Pies!! But when you walk in and see the lit glass case - filled with foot-tall chocolate cakes and beautiful, loaded cheesecakes - I always am gone. Pie? What? What's that?
Vi's is my favorite little after-dinner dessert location. It's low key, casual, friendly and their desserts never disappoint. They have everything from pie, always at LEAST four different cheesecake options, chocolate cakes, carrot cake, brownies, nanaimo bars - you name it. It is a wonderful, happy place, where a dessert lover can really sit back and enjoy.
What's great about Vi's is that it's not just the dessert - it's the atmosphere that really makes them great. The servers are always friendly and helpful - coming by to refill your coffee or your water even though it's a "cafe" atmosphere. You can sit back and chat with your table mates or study over a piece of cake/pie and really enjoy yourself. Vi's also offers a full menu and are especially brunch/lunch friendly - I am yet to actually eat a "real" meal here, but I have heard excellent things about their soups, sandwiches, quiches and evening specials.
Come to Vi's after dinner for a cup of coffee, a slice of pie and a great conversation with a friend. It won't disappoint you. You will love it. And if you do end up not being distracted by the cheesecake case and have the pie - definitely let me know how that goes for you. -

I stopped in to Vi's and shared a delicious piece of apple pecan cramel cheesecake with my Hubs.
It was divine - light and fluffy with caramelized apples on top. And the piece was definitely big enough to share.
I was, however, a bit surprised by the lack of actual pie in the display case. There was plenty of cake, cheesecake, squares and bars, but only 2 pies.
I guess "Vi's for Cakes" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
We didn't order any actual "food", but the aromas wafting from the surrounding tables were certainly making my mouth water, and I'm certain we will make a return trip to try the more savoury items on the menu as well. -

The tone is set when you first walk in to Vi's for Pies: you only think you're coming for dinner, but Vi's makes it clear from the get-go that dessert is the main attraction here. Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by an enormous glass counter filled with the most amazingly decadent-looking desserts. Some cakes, some bars, but mostly, you guessed it, pies. If you have to wait for your table, which is often the case at dinner time, you get to examine your options and make a plan for your evening.
Vi's offers up delicious comfort food: the chalkboard menu telling of pot-pie, lasagna, quiche, and mac & cheese reminded me of the one my aunt kept in her kitchen telling all of the weekly meal-plan. I especially like their mac & cheese and their veggie lasagna. My partner even tells me that the lasagna is better than mine, which says a lot since he would only be so brave if it were really stellar (it is!). My favourite entree, though, would have to be the quiche. How on earth do they get their eggs so light and fluffy...in a quiche?
But the real reason to go to Vi's is not for dinner. So, let me tell you about the dessert. This past weekend, my partner ordered the black forest cake. It was good. But anytime anyone in my party orders a slice of cake, I think it's good, whereas, I always think the pies are spectacular. The black forest cake was great; it just wasn't pie, and it suffered by comparison. Our friend Greg ordered the pumpkin pie. He's kind of a food snob, but he said it was the best pumpkin pie he's ever had. I tasted it, and thought it was wonderful - not too heavy, and the right balance of spices. But I was the lucky one who happened to snag the very last piece of coconut cream pie. Oh my, is that a good pie! So creamy, so rich. I have nicknamed the pie, "Paradise Pie" since it surely is a slice of paradise.
I am just glad that Vi's for Pies is not in my neighbourhood. How I would balloon if this restaurant were within walking distance of my place. -

Went last night after the theatre, and had a great chance to catch up w my daughter... We shared their raspberry coconut square, super yummy, and a couple of vanilla steamers - and the bill was under $10, which was just the icing on the cake (so to speak)! :-)

The nanaimo bar was the bizzomb. I should probably try the pie, since that is what they're famous for, but I don't know if I'll be able to come back here and not order the nanaimo bar. Like, dang.
I just stopped in here with some time to kill on my way to the west end. Great desserts, decent coffee, solid wifi, and the most gorgeous outdoor patio? Yeah, I wasn't about to turn that down.
Our waitress was friendly and we chatted a bit about the LRT plans. She re-filled my coffee and water a plenty.
Now that it's summer, I'm going to be here all of the time for sunshine and pie. The patio is just too much! I love it. My waistline might not like it so much, but shut up, waistline. This isn't about you.
It's a bit out of my way (I'm a south-side/university/downtown girl, for the most part) but it's worth it.
Bonus: plenty of parking out front!Listed in: Four-Stars, Lunch Break, Cups of Coffee, Date Night, Devouring Desserts

Stopped in on Sat afternoon for some pie and coffee. Both my wife and I enjoyed our desserts - I had lemon meringue (great meringue) and my wife had the peanut butter mousse pie (very generous portion).
On a different note, I've always enjoyed the food here - meat pies, quiches, etc. Noticed today they have a new BBQ offering that smokes pork in pecan/applewood chips and beef in pecan/mesquite chips. Lots of orders were going out so it's clearly popular. Sounds like great value at $13.75 for the meat, 2 sides, and a biscuit. Will be back to try it out! -

Vi's for Pies is a popular neighbourhood eatery in near Glenora. The allure of the fresh-baked pastries, homemade soups, and entrees that define the term "comfort food" keep the place hopping throughout the day. In fact, the place gets absolutely packed around lunchtime.
The menu changes on a regular basis and is written on large chalkboards that rotate around the room. Some menu staples include salads, lasagna, shepherd's pie, and chicken pot pie - a delicious deep dish of chicken chunks and vegetables in a creamy sauce.
Whether to stay or take out, the desserts are plentiful, and I always enjoy a variety of squares and brownies from Vi's for Pies. -

Vi's for Pies is my new favorite eating joint, and no, I don't say that about every place I like! I went there for lunch recently with a friend, and couldn't decide on the pie or the lunch menu. We decided to split the shrimp roll and salad from the lunch menu first, and then go for pie.
Although we didn't have room for pie afterwards, the shrimp roll was delicious. The first bite was an explosion of flavour in my mouth. The shrimp roll was fresh and chewy, with a sweet tomato sauce on top. If you're a fan of chai, try their chai latte -- it's sweet with just the right amount of foam and cinnamon on top.
The layout of the restaurant is simple and comfortable. There is a more cozy eating area off to the side, with a fireplace and large windows. They also have a patio, although it wasn't open when we went.
Rest assured, I will definitely be back to have some of their pie!Listed in: Best Eats

I am mixed on this place. One one hand, the desserts are really, really good. The coconut cream pie is fantastic. On the other hand, the service is noticeably bad. I mean, I went in on my birthday last year, and as we were getting ready to order our pie at the front, the waitress stuck her thumb in the coffee she was carrying to check the temperature. After that... we didn't order any pie. I haven't been back, but that's sad, because the desserts were actually very good.
Edit: Ok, we went back two years after this event. Didn't think the service could get worse... and it did. That'll show me for giving them another chance. -

What has happened to this place. The waitress was either braindead or plain ride. How can they call it Vi's pies when they actually do not have pie. There was seriously no pie left at 3 pm. Is this not the time most people want pie????

Was ON the way to my oil change (it was a girl day to myself, 2 in one day I know, give me a break) and have always wanted to stop here to try some dessert so I pulled in and the parking around it was nuts, I parked about 1.5 blocks away to find a 3 quarters full cafe. Once you walk in you're greeted by all the desserts and my mouth began watering. With so much selection I needed a minute and eventually went with a pumpkin cheesecake and an apple pie (not all for me of course...) Which came to almost $12. The pumpkin cheesecake was out of this world. I've never had anything better, it wasn't too sweet or rich, nor was it heavy like most cheesecakes. The apple pie wasn't my fancy though, it was a bit too sweet and I like my pie crust a little more flaky. I didn't have time to sit down, nor did I want to "table for one it" so I took my pies to go without seeing the menu or sitting in the incredibly cozy cafe. I will definitely be returning until I try them all here !

I have only eaten at Vi's For Pies once, and mostly go there to eat pies:) and drink tea. The one time I had lunch there neither food nor customer service lived up to my expectations. For no apparent reason, the waitress ignored our party of three for a long time. After making an order, we had to endure a rather long wait which was hard to justify since we only ordered three salads (nothing else on the blackboard menu enticed us). The salads were...well...like salads. Nothing spectacular.
I gave Vi's For Pies another chance when one evening my husband and I walked in to have some tea and pie. We ordered one slice of lemon pie, one slice of chocolate fudge pie and two cups of tea. Turns out, Vi's For Pies makes heavenly desserts! Our pies were not overly sweet but rather had a delicate taste and melted in the mouth. I was so impressed that I ordered a chocolate fudge cake from them for my husband's birthday several months later.
I adore the interor of this place with its earthy tones. And I especially like the eating area in the inner garden. -

I've never had pie at Vi's but I have enjoyed the lovely ambiance of this little place. It's cozy and warm, like someone's living room, and has a diverse menu with pasta, curries, salads and sandwiches. I had a cheese pate platter and a glass of wine when I was here with a friend. We enjoyed it but didn't have room for dessert. I have heard the cheesecakes, cookies and pies (of course) are to die for. I will have to come back for dessert sometime. In the winter, you may want to come early to try to get a seat by the fireplace. But the warm walls and lighting do make it comfy throughout. There's a patio in the summer, so if you don't want to hang downtown or on Whyte, this is a nice westerly option.
