Five stars because this store has helped in me a pinch more than once. (three times so far, to be exact!)
Agree with Crystal about a place to find gifts but even a better place to find thing for me!!
It's like, they can read my mind.. I have an idea of something i'm looking for and they happen to have it. Although, I often forget about this place until I'm in a panic and I NEED "that shirt/scarf/pair of earrings" for Friday and its already Wednesday afternoon and I have yoga Thursdays after work. (was that a total run on sentence??!)
My most recent visit to Virgin Mary's scored me a top for my comic-con costume which was also 20% off.
Also, for the girls who are interested: they have these reallly cute scarves for only $12. I bought two. Both for me.
And this is why I run out of closet/drawer space. -

Don't be fooled by the décor of the sign on the outside of the door. I thought that this was a goth/alternative clothing store (I'm barely on the drive, therefore, not sure what type of store it was before walking in). They're clothes look like the stuff you'd by at Plum on Broadway, however, the clothes are well crafted and when they can, they get local designers which is a plus. Fashionably bland and unimaginative for my taste, however, as a store, one of the better quality selections for that type of fashion. It's good to see a store like this exists in terms of quality and local support. The girl at the til and assuming owner was super friendly and helpful. She made me feel welcome in her shop.

You know that cute little floral print dress circa early 90's Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone in Aerosmith's "crazy" video? ...well, in my mind, that shit is back in style baby, and guess what was waiting for me inside this neat lil vintage thrift shop? A new one. Yeah they have new stuff too. Pricey but worth it... Now I got something to rebel in....

Five minutes before the parking meter expires. Tick tock tick tock!
That leaves no time to find the perfect birthday gift for a girlfriend at all! I was in panic mode, on a mission on Commercial, none of the stores I had speed-shopped in had what I wanted (I didn't even know what I wanted.) Until Virgin Mary's. As soon as I walked in and smelled that old vintage (a la Value Village) aroma, I knew I'd be walking away with the perfect gift.
And sure enough, 1 minute in I'd found a great pair of earrings for the gift; 2 minutes in I'd eyed up and tried on a belt; 3 minutes in I was contemplating trying on the rest of the store; 4 minutes paying and mentally recording the items I needed to come back to try while the sales clerk presented the earrings in a little gift bag...
And at 5 minutes? At the car and burning rubber outta there! Ha ha you can't catch me parking enforcement! I'm the stealth shopping bandit! -

It seems as though stores of controversial names attract me. Why?
It must be for good reason because I love this place (and their oldschool cash register). They have the perfect ratio (7:3) of new and consignment clothing and accessories. I found the cutest belt and pair of earrings for my girlfriend.
Their style is contemporary vintage with a girly twist and just a hint of gaudiness. Virgin Mary's is a good intro to shopping on The Drive - not too hippy for the new chic. -

I always feel a bit awkward reviewing women's clothing stores but I'll just rest of the fact that I'm a big fan of fashion and design and make sort of an esoteric review.
Virgin Mary's is pretty awesome. it's one of the more fun/cute stores on the drive and features an equal assortment of great handmade unique stuff and some carefully picked vintage. While they do have an array of really cute dresses I think the centerpiece is really the accessories.
Most of the times I head in here with girlfriends it is for hats, belts or jewelery. They don't have the biggest selection on the drive of accessories but what they do have are wildly unique and often really high quality. The pieces look kind of eclectic all together but they tend to be that kind of missing perfect accent you've been looking for to go with your favorite outfits. I rarely enter here without someone leaving with something.
I'd definitely consider heading to Virgin Mary's if you're shopping for a great gift or need that must-have accessory to complete a unique outfit. -

Rats! I totally thought i found a hidden gem!
But this store has so many fun fashion concepts vintage and modern vintage. And some things a little outrageous, but in a good way. Today they had a 20% off the sale items sale and that got me a relatively inexpensive, but awesome coat!
I agree with Crystal H. about gift shopping here. I will definitely shop here for girly gifts in the future.
The used/old/vintage/consignment section was quite a bit outdated though... they were things I'd only consider wearing for halloween. :( -

I picked up my all time favourite summer dress here, circa 1972. It's a navy blue silk long gown-like summer dress with spaghetti straps and little purple flowers on the bottoms of it.
Virgin Mary's has vintage dresses mostly and new and second-hand items. The change rooms have great photos of Saints and virginal figures. I also purchased beads, earrings and tried on a plethora of hats. Innovative house accessories are also common. -

What a delightful little shop, worth the walk up Commercial. Lots of darling pieces to peruse and at great prices too. Last time I was here I picked up a slouchy winter hat (for $12) I can't stop wearing (lots of compliments too) and some black wood-carved earrings ($6) that look really sweet. With the styles I picked I felt like I was embracing my outer hippy a bit, something I'd usually try to keep on the down-low.

Virgin Mary's is a cute little shop that sells both vintage and new clothing. I was especially taken by their display of cute hats. Virgin Mary's will be moving down the street in the near future to 1136 Commercial Drive.
