I'm always in search of good thai food.  I love the range of flavors, the heat and the different types of ingredients that are not commonly used in other restaurants.  Viphalay did not disappoint.

We came here after the Rangers victory on my first night in Edmonton.  We were able to walk from The Pint (where we had a few) and were craving sustenance.  When I sat down and looked over the menu, my pulse quickened and I got even hungrier.

The Gaeng Kah Gal (coconut soup)  we started with had nice spice and a hefty amount of lemongrass and beautiful coconut flavor.  I took breaks from sipping it by munching on the Dum Mak Hong (laotion papaya salad) which had bright chili flavor that I loved.

Our entrees were the yellow curry chicken, drunken spicy noodles with shrimp, BBQ beef and coconut rice.  The beef was my only complaint because it wasn't as delicious as the others and was overcooked in my opinion.  They majority of the entrees were made spicy for us on our request and the whole meal made me very happy.  Even the coconut rice had wonderful flavor.

This spot is fun, the prices are reasonable and I'm glad I got to eat here.

I have been eating at Viphalay at the old location in Chinatown, but since its moved into downtown, the food is stale & does not taste good. The service at lunchtime is haphazard.they are very busy & unorganised. My husband ate a week ago & was very unimpressed with the food & service & when I went yesterday,it was no better.I told the owners & they just said they would try to make it better next time.well guess what I am not going back!!

one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood. the rich aroma of lemongrass, curry and garlic greets you at the door (in a good way) . service is great, dinning room is nice and menu is amazing. my only complaint is the long  wait to reopen 95th and 107th location. look forward to see the renovations

youll need to bring a bucket to this throw up inducer-dont put this on your bucket list-just bring a medium sized bucket!! youll thank me for the advise later I sincerely promise. You Will!!

I went to lunch with a large group of `12 `friends from work-to wish a staff who was leaving her job a good fair ye well and all the best. The lunch time parking is impossible to handle here ,even with knowing there are parking stalls-not advertised in the back alley of the building. Dont take an obese or disabled person here as no close parking will be  available. and your morbidly obese companion or disabled person will face immediate hard ships even before they sample any grubb.

If you blink as we all usually do you will have already missed this restaurant-which is probably a good thing for you. The interior is to say the least quite a contrast to the exterior, a pleasant surprise awaits you inside with the over the top goddy trying way too hard to belike tailand interior. Think of 70's style miami scar  face movie set, juxtaposed against something from a  Yan Can Cook television  cooking show. I dont know what they were going for here, other than a bit of  distraction from the food-and bad service.

The gang all ordered food at the same time and the waitress was efficient in taking it down and getting it almost all right. We didnt order any special drinks and the water was at least WET. But we all had difficulty getting more water-until I went to the bar table at the back and asked a chinese looking man-who turned out to be a realtor-for 2 water jugs. I then did the watering of guests-and they were all greatful but NO tip for ME!!(he he). After 20 minutes the food starts to come out a few appetisers at a time and after 30 minutes the main lunches begin to arrive.

After our meal we parted ways and upon arriving back at work was told by my lunch companion seated beside me that she was sick and going in and out of the bathroom. Uggh she was not feeling too well, and now the toilet bowl was also paying the price for the green curry shrimp dish she ate for lunch. I too had the same shrimp dish and fell ill 4 hours later. when my stomache cramps and race to the toilet bowl contest was over I then called the restaurant to tell them 2 customers that lunch day were ill after eating their shrimp dish. The women who called me back said she never gets phone calls like this,  but my friend had also called and when called back was told the same story from the women. Funny how this lady keeps 'never getting these types of  phone calls;from concerned patrols. Is there a doctor in the house? there should be and a bucket !!

Once again we visited our favorite family spot and left feeling well fed full of spices and happy.
This evening we chose the crab and cheese appetizers, the Thai salad with it's delightful creamy dressing and two curries. the green curry chicken and the Penang. The coconut rice was perfect.  Delicious. We ended the meal with a delightful rolled crepe filled with a warm custard.
Our family chooses this place for our celebration meals. Service is always great, and if Nicholas is around, then very entertaining.

Normally, I am rather cynical about strip malls, but one lucky strip mall on the corner of 95 st and 107 ave houses the venerable Viphalay. This is doubtless my favourite Asian restaurant in town. The service is admirable but, more importantly, the food is spectacular. Mussaman Curry is a stand-out; the peanut-laced sauce bathes robust potatoes and tender chicken. Dessert includes crepe-like roti dusted with icing sugar and dipped in condensed milk. Delicate, sweet and immensely satisfying.

Our whole family are big fans of Viphalay. It doesn't look like much from the outside,  but rest assured the decor is nice on the inside.

We always get the same dishes: green curry chicken, orange cashew chicken, basil shrimp (hot) and coconut rice. The food is remarkably consistent.

The biggest competitive advantage here is the service...but maybe that because we go a coupe of times per month! The owner and other employees seem to always be happy...

The secret here is the desert. They have coconut ice cream like you have never tasted. They say it's a "world exclusive"...not just the regular vanilla ice cream with coconut flakes in it...no way, this stuff is the real deal.

    Anyway, very much recommended....

I've gone twice within the past 3 days :) It's not thaaat good but not bad. The best thing has to be the Drunken Noodles. I looked up the recipe online after trying it and noticed that this restaurant doesn't really use the real noodles in most recipes. They use instant noodles. Tastes great to me though! Also not bad is their shrimp & pineapple triangles appetizer. Other than the noodles, the rest of the dishes are actually quite small (~$11-12 each) so a little pricey. Don't have the sweet and sour fish because it was fishy-tasting. The curry was good. Tamarind chicken was meh. I didn't have any desserts but they looked interesting.

Decor was good. Place was really clean. I think they just recently opened up. Service was good and food came out pretty quickly.

Oh yeah, try the pineapple-coconut juice. It's really good! Apparently, they juice it fresh in the restaurant.

My friend and I both tried this place for the first time on Friday and loved it. It's a quaint little Thai and Laos restaurant just off of Little Italy and Chinatown. Don't be fooled by the seedy area outside -- the interior is rich and cozy. It's all about the comfortable atmosphere and good food!

We had the pad thai and masaman curry with chicken and jasmine rice. The pad thai was great, chewy and flavorful, but not too much. The masaman is good if you like your curry sweet and not too spicy. Our waiter was super helpful in teaching us about the different kinds of curry, which ones are better for less spice, and which rice is best to pair it with.

Wash it down with the pineapple-coconut juice -- it's delicious! They also have a great dessert menu, although I was too stuffed to sample it myself.

Great service and staff, wonderful atmosphere! We ended up staying there for hours just talking and they didn't hurry us out or anything. I'm adding Viphalay to my list of best restaurants!
