Review from Alyssa E.
My friend and I ended up here after a Crush wine tour, and it is superb. The restaurant looks out over the rolling vineyards with a great patio for the summer season, and the wine shop is delightfully rustic. For dinner, we started with an amuse bouche of smoked trout--very good--and moved on to split the duck trio--also good.
The winner, though, was my lamb shank with vegetables and a hearty cassoulet. The meat fell off the bone, pairing very well with the white beans. Utterly divine. My friend enjoyed her scallops, but they can't compare with the lamb.
My only qualms with the restaurant were 1) the price tag (a VERY expensive meal), and 2) they couldn't make a good cocktail. After drinking wine all day on the tour, we were a bit wined-out, so I ordered a dirty vodka martini. Small glass, poorly made, and a little bit of a disappointment. -

22 of us had reservations for Dinner at the Vineland Estates Winery yesterday to celebrate Mothers Day / a 90th birthday.
Upon entering, we were "greeted" by a hostess who didn't smile, say "hello", or make eye contact for that matter. She simply directed us to our tables.
The Restaurant itself is very cute and rustic looking, it would be a nice place for a wedding. The room we had for our party was nice, but having 2 separate tables made it difficult for everyone to chat with one another.
Water was served about 20 minutes after we arrived, but we waited almost 45 minutes before any wine was offered. We only had 1 waiter who was assigned to our party for the entire night and he took everyone's food orders before drink orders? Okay....? When we asked the water boy if we could order drinks with him he said "no, he can help you with that" and pointed to our Waiter. I was getting very impatient. Especially when you're at a WINERY, wouldn't you expect them to be shoving it down your throats? They would have made more money off us if they had started serving drinks earlier.
The highlight of the dinner was when we were offered an "amuse bouche" compliments of the chef. (After I found out how much they made off us that night, it was the least they could have done.) It was the best mouthful I had all night. A morsel of delicious melt-in-your-mouth cured salmon on top of asian slaw. The wine was also excellent, I will give them that. If you come here, come for the wine and skip the food.
Our appetizer options were (cut and pasted from their web-site):
Goat's Cheese Parfait,
Merlot & Onion Jam, Niagara Greens & Berry Vinaigrette
OR
Roasted Cluster Tomato Bisque,
Benedictine Cream & Crushed Hazelnut Oil
OR
Bluecoat Mussels,
RJ's Pancetta, Cherry Tomatoes & Roast Garlic Cream
The Mussels were definitely the way to go. The portion was HUGE in comparison to the other options. Everybody there wished they went with the mussels. Luckily my boyfriend ordered them and had more than enough to share with me. They were delicious. My Tomato bisque SUCKED; it was overly bitter and in desperate need of more salt (which was not on the table) AND sugar. The goat cheese parfait was good but it was very rich and had nothing to accompany it other than 2 slices of cucumber and a wimpy tomato wedge.
Main options were:
Cumbrae's Dry-Aged Beef Tenderloin,
Blue Haze, Sweet Potato Croquette, Classic Demi-Glace
OR
Herb Cured Pork Tenderloin,
with Charred Onions & Dried Cherry and Triple Crunch Mustard
OR
Seared Canadian Salmon,
Sauteed Greens, Roasted Fingerlings, in Olive and Caper Remoulade
Again, the portion sizes were ridiculously unfair. Each protein sat atop 1 baby carrot, 1 brussel sprout cut in half and some sauteed onions.
Absolutely Ridiculous.
The beef was the biggest sized portion of them all, the Salmon portion was quite small, but huge in comparison to the Pork portion. I was so mad. 3 slivers of pork. That was it. I by no means have a ravenous appetite, but I was still hungry when I left. The slivers of pork that I wolfed down in 2 bites were cooked to perfection; unfortunately I found the accompanying mustard flavour a little powerful. The tenderloin was definitely tasty, but I don't like blue cheese and it was melted all over the top. I guess that's what a "blue haze" means? So pretentious... The salmon was alright but not worth the money we paid. None of it was.
Our bill for 2 people:
2 $45 Menu $90.00
2 Dry Reisling $16.00
1 Merlot $8.00
1 Pinot Grigio $8.00
Subtotal $122.00
HST $15.86
Gratuity $21.96
Total $159.82
In case you missed it, that's 18% gratuity automatically added to our bill (because we had a "large" group.) No wonder the service was so shitty-no need to work for your tip!
I will NEVER come back here again. We should have gone to Swiss Chalet.Listed in: My S#!% List, shots shots shots, St. Catharines

I've been to many wineries in Niagara but stumbled across this looking for locations to have our wedding. We had stopped a Peninsula Ridge and I thought it was the perfect place with the rolling hills and the view. My Fiance said wait until we go here. Wow was I impressed, so impressed we booked our wedding date that day. The grounds are excellent and the buildings have that traditional stone and oak look to them. The wine is fantastic and i believe their Chardonnay's could compete with Napa and Sonoma. My fiance loves the reds as well. You also have to try the restaurant as their food is excellent. All ingredients are fresh and intended to compliment the wines they have. The outside patio has a beautiful view of the vineyards and rolling hills.

We ate at Vineland last year for our anniversary. They have a very interesting menu which is completely inundated with local produce. I love restaurants that take the time to work with local farmers to develop their menu. The result typically is simple food that tastes outstanding. This restaurant has achieved the desired result.
Their white wines are very good as well. We normally don't do Chardonnay, but their un-oaked is really quite tasty. Give this place a shot! -

A favorite tranquil place where I go to indulge on exquisite food with excellent white wines (preferred). The service has remained consistently top notch over the last 6 years I've been going there. Staff is very friendly. Now if you expect your average pub food (big pile portion) for $ you are in the wrong place. The key word here is gourmet, place for connoisseurs and I believe the price is right.

This was our third visit over ten years--we now live 700 miles away but hope to make the interval between returns shorter. This time I had the creative menu with classic pairings, with tasting portions of duck, sea bass, pork, lamb and pana cotta. (a word about portion size: if you are having a single course, it should be fairly large. If you are having five courses, the combined size should be about the same as that single course. The point of multiple courses is variety, not gluttony.) Excellently prepared with local ingredients, brilliantly matched in the pairings. Pricing appropriate to ambition; service in the European manner-professional, attentive, and unobtrusive.

My husband and I visited Vineland on a beautiful late July day. The winery is built upon a century-old menonite farm, and is built in a charming German style. Vineland has been producing wine since the early 80's making it one of the oldest in the area. We took the tour, which is offered at 11am on Saturdays, led by one of the bottlers. Vineland bottles all of their wines in-house, leading to lower prices. We tasted several rieslings, as well as a cabernet franc, and a merlot. The St. Urban Riesling was definitely our favorite, somewhat dry and floral it was very refreshing and had a great minerality. They also have a few cottages for rent and a lovely restaurant where you have a view from every seat of the vineyards.
