I used to live just north of here on Markham Street, and would quite often pop in to get essentials when I couldn't/didn't want to make it to the supermarket for a proper shop.
The basics are in abundance - juices, milks (dairy and non), meat, veggie meats, bread are all stocked and pretty well priced. They have a fantastic selection of dips & hummus for some reason too, which is great.
Fruit and veg selection is pretty broad, and usually good quality - you can often pick up good deals on a lot of produce in season, too, and they often stock Ontario-grown.
Their range of other grocery foods and products is pretty decent - to be honest, I probably could get by shopping there most of the time with only trips to supermarkets/speciality stores once in a while. It's definitely a handy little store to have locally.
Reasonable prices, good selection of goods and a pretty decent opening schedule makes this one of the better local corner stores i've shopped at. Even if you're passing through the area, you might find yourself nipping in to grab this or that - even if only a drink or candy bar!Listed in: Groceries etc - Toronto

One of the pitfalls of downtown living is the dire lack of grocery store access. Convenience grocery stores serve as a stop gap, for instance, when you can't be bothered to trudge all the way down to the Metro and lug groceries in an errand cart back.
Directly opposite Mirvish Village, Village Market offers a great selection of perishable and nonperishable items, with a good range of quality and price points. The produce selection is better than most small markets of its ilk, both in terms of diversity and quality. The staff is also very helpful and friendly.
They also have a good selection of dairy case items like yogurt, milk, soy milk, etc. Another strength is in deli items like presliced meats, cheeses and dips. The only thing I would watch out for at this store is the price of some of the items. For example, a small frozen pizza might cost you somewhere around $7, or a half gallon of ice cream more than that. I'm not sure if its because their frozen stock doesn't move as quickly or I just happened to notice the cost of frozen goods in the past, either way if you need to have it be prepared to pay a hefty price for the convenience. -

When I lived in this neighbourhood, this became my grocery store of choice. Going to a giant supermarket would've required a 15 minute walk, and in all honesty wasn't worth the aggravation when the Village Market was 3 minutes away.
I found the prices here to be comparable to those of the Dominion (now a Metro.) The store was (obviously) much smaller in size, but that turned out to be a good thing as once you get used to it, it's very easy to navigate and find everything you need.
I always found their meat selection was somewhat lacking. Beef (other than in frozen burger form) was practically non-existant. Chicken was rare and pork was a 'sometimes' affair. The veggies, on the other hand, were always plentiful and pleasing. Truth be told, there was the occasional gang of fruit flies hanging around the bananas, but other stuff like the peppers and onions were consistently great.
