There is no way I will be able to explain how much I love this place. I can honestly say that I have never stayed any place I have loved as much as this. Where do I start?

My husband and I spent four nights here (actually we had only reserved three nights, but I couldn't stand to leave so soon. We were very lucky to be able to book a fourth night in our Persia room). Every morning we were served an amazing four-course vegan breakfast. (Something different and equally amazing every day!) I am a vegan, and the fact that they are happy to accommodate special diets was the first thing that drew me to this place. I actually did a Google search for "vegan bed and breakfast Victoria B.C." and that was how I discovered this gem.

Danuisa and Wanja were so wonderful and friendly. One or both of them greeted us every morning with a smile. I don't know how they did everything they did. I swear they were like ninjas...while we ate breakfast our bed was always made, trash was emptied, and everything was tidied. When we left in the evenings, even if for just 20 minutes, we'd come back to a turned-down bed with chocolates and a light on in our room. This was impressive to me!

I loved the complimentary Amarone della Valpolicella in the library. Speaking of the library, wow! What a fun place to hang out! I can't think of one negative thing to say about this place. Perhaps that's why I was also unable to find anything less than a five-star review of it while doing my research beforehand. "Exquisite" really is the best word to describe this place.

Thank you Danuisa and Wanja for such an enjoyable and memorable stay! I have already told my parents that they have to come here, my Facebook friends that this was my favorite trip I've ever taken, and will continue to highly recommend Villa Marco Polo every chance I get! I can't wait to go back!

The innkeepers are totally authentic and super helpful. The decor is EXQUISITE! I love how it is a 5 minute drive from downtown, in a quiet neighborhood where you can relax! The food was absolutely delicious, as well. It is rated a 5 Star B&B and it definitely lives up to its rating. It is also a great central location to explore all the neighborhoods of Victoria. Liam recommended Cafe Brio for dinner the first night and it was to die for. He then recommended exploring the Cook District, which was exactly what we needed the second night! Perfect.

Specialties

The Villa Marco Polo Inn, located in the historic Rockland quarter just minutes from the Inner Harbour, is Victoria's premier destination for the discerning traveler. A Five-Star bed and breakfast endorsed by Select Registry, Condé Nast Johansen, Karen Brown, and Frommer's, the Villa was built as a wedding present for a young bride, and continues to be a destination for weddings, romantic getaways, and rejuvenating respites. A reflecting pool with fountains is the centerpiece of the Italianate gardens, and suites feature double soaker tubs, fireplaces, hardwood floors with Persian carpets, and antiques and art evoking Silk Road travels. The Spa Hamaan is a third-floor space overlooking the Salish Sea. The menu runs from massages and facials to pedicures and body wraps. Massage therapists demonstrate the generous, intuitive gift of touch that makes for a memorable spa experience.

History

Established in 2003

Percy Leonard James, a noted colleague of the British architect Francis Rattenbury, was commissioned to design the gracious residence at 1524 Shasta Place as a wedding present for his beloved daughter, Helen Nation.
In 2003, this magnificent property became the Villa Marco Polo Inn. The name was chosen to evoke the memories and images of the countries along the Silk Road, from Venice through the Middle East to China. Interiors are filled with Persian carpets, exquisite silks, Italian and Chinese ceramics, and fine art that comes from many areas ranging from Venice to China, and points between.
