THE go-to place to grab a quick lunch near the Financial District. The food is pretty basic: pizza, subs, salads, pasta, etc... but when you've only got 30 minutes for lunch- it's perfect, the line is very fast.

    Pizza: 4/5
Pasta: 4.5/5 (notched it up a little because of the cheap prices)
Salads: 4/5 (surprisingly fresh for being pre-made)

Their bread, which comes with pretty much anything you buy, is AMAZING. Ridiculously oily, but ridiculously good (especially when it's fresh and warm). Nice quick place to get your money's worth of a meal during your lunch beak.

Shite. I swear the partially decomposed vegetable matter in my salad today is the same stuff I picked out of an expired salad container in my fridge 2 days ago. I gotta start locking my compost bin.

Viga is supposedly an Italian restaurant. I couldn't find the word in the Italian dictionary at http://dicionary.rever..., but one meaning of "viga" in Spanish is "balk", as in "I was thinking of eating at Viga, but then I balked."

A good option for a quick, inexpensive lunch.  I just wish they would stop overcooking their pasta!  And I'm not sure where the chicken is in their weekly special chicken lasagna - the small cubes of protein sort of get lost in the ricotta and sauce.

I love their bread despite the oils easily seeping through the papersack.  It comes in white or wheat - I prefer the white.

They have a few tables if you want to eat in, but they do mostly a brisk take-out business.

There is a frequent diner card where you receive $3 off on your 6th visit (with a $3 minimum purchase per visit) and $5 off on your 12th visit.

This location is a stand alone, and is not related to the other Viga locations at Federal Street, in Pi Alley and on the corner at Stuart Street.

Fix the pasta and I'd change to 4 stars easy.

This place to has be brought down a notch.  The last couple of times I have been there, I have not been too impressed.  I recently got a barbecue chicken wrap.  Usually it is excellent, but this time it was just above average.  There is too much rice in the wrap and not enough chicken.  And the barbecue sauce is not tangy enough.  Management needs to make sure that employees are adhering to standards and there is enough preparation in the food.

Due to the convenience, decent food, and reasonable prices, I blame Viga for the weight gain of me and the hundreds of others, who work in the offices around the area! Yup, it's literally down stairs from my work. Over the year, I've had a chance to try a variety of foods like pizza, calzones, subs, and mac n' cheese. No not the salads, never that haha.  Anyways, pizza slices are huge (1 could do the trick and 2 will take you to nap time) and usually has a variety of creations, chicken alfredo is my go to because I don't really like the sauce from this place and same with the sauce they smother onto the calzones (bread is good though). Tried the buffalo mac n' cheese once, it was okay, but I wouldn't order it again. I think my favorite sub here and my most frequent order is the meatball marinara sub, good fresh bread, chunky savory meatballs, melted provolone, and my added touch of crush red pepper. Usually when I do a Viga trip, I take my order right upstairs, devour it and proceed to put head down on desk and prepare for nap time. Food is okay and could satisfy a quick Italian fix.

I am really surprised to see this place rated so highly. The food tastes cheap and is mostly pre-made and cafeteria style. The bread is great but the chicken cutlets are greasy and the pasta sauce tastes like it has been sitting out for hours.

The place is a mad house during lunch time and you really have to squeeze in there. Viga is not a terrible place but I have just had much better and I think it's laughable that this is in the top 5 for downtown Boston.

Viga is like a bad mechanic you keep going back to. You don't know why you do it, but it's sort of reliable and it's edible. Not that a car is edible, but I digress...

I get the same thing at Viga eveytime I go there. For five years. Ham Calzone. I have no explaination for this-- outside of the fact we human are creatures of habit and it's five bucks... But like I said, It's edible and haven't got sick from it yet.

I think this is the best Italian lunch place in Financial district area. Perfect for quick grab 'n go.

Best part here is the bread roll that comes with sandwich/salad and the focaccia bread for the sandwiches.

Pizzas and pasta are delicious but too fatty here. But I always choose the hot/cold sandwiches which are tasty and wont cause you to go into a food coma. Surprisingly the salads are fresh and the half-sandwich and salad/drink deal is really good especially for chicks.

Best Caterer Anywhere...Luckily they're in Boston! I have attended several times, as well as a wedding of my friend and my housewarming last weekend . The menus were so delicious and fresh. The food was seriously some of the best I have ever had! They always had a dessert section that was amazing. Really exceptional.

If Viga was running the famous breadlines in the U.S. after the Great Depression there would have been no actual "line" to speak of, this place is insanely efficient. It felt liked seconds, not minutes, after I placed my order I was paying for it at the counter, and this was after watching 5 people in front of me do the exact same thing in almost no time at all. The food here is pretty basic Italian sandwiches, pasta and pizza for the most part, but if you're in a rush at lunch it sure beats the hell out of traditional fast food, with probably even quicker service.

I decided to get the sausage and pepper sandwich (http://www.yelp.com/bi...), which I had to ask for some marinara sauce on top, because otherwise it's literally just some sausages and peppers in bread, a bit too simple for me. It was still a little lacking flavor wise, but at least the quality of the sausage was pretty decent. I would not recommend getting on the foccacia bread as I did, because it's just too flimsy to support the meat. As a result, this can get somewhat messy, so grab a handful of napkins and be careful if you're wearing white, as you're likely to have some splatter damage.

One of my co-workers ordered 2 slices of pizza, which I only mention so I can include the picture (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) of them. Freakin huge. I can only imagine what an entire pie of this must look like!

I think Viga might have to be held responsible for my needing and subsequently attending Weight Watchers last year.  My office had catering daily and Viga was usually the caterer of choice, and their sandwiches are heavenly.  Even for someone like me, who has to avoid a lot of stuff that usually goes in sandwiches.

The breads are all delicious and the sandwiches are always overstuffed.  The veggies, meat, or whatever you have placed in between those glorious slices of bread always seems to taste great.

    Love, love, love.

Holy crap was the bread on my sandwich good! it was moist and flat and wide and...everything i have ever wanted in a sandwich.

Grilled chicken on flat bread sandwich... get it.

My coworker popped my Viga cherry today because he wanted me to try this sandwich. Grilled chicken, green beans, guacamole and pico de gillo on flat bread.

    It was massive and Delicious.

The place was packed and people were yelling a shoving each other like the New York Stock Exchange. It made me feel alive.

Viga is madness.  It's confusing and people are literally everywhere.  And so is the food - there is a ton of it and it's everywhere.  And man it's GREAT!

Terrific selection and reasonable prices.  It's always a treat to get a hot meal for lunch.  Try the sandwiches and the baked ziti.  Service is quick and easy.

Only downside: it's only open four hours each weekday.

Oh Viga! Why have you forsaken me?

I requested a Greek wrap, no onions, add sundried tomatoes.  I did not say add small black plastic tube thingy that bangs on my teeth and I have to pull out from my mouth in front of the people in my office. booooo.
Did I twitch when I ordered? Did you see a winky wink in my eye that said, "throw a little weird plastic bit in there?"

Well, I still ate the wrap anyway plastic bits and all, for it is too tasty to turn away from. I hope I removed all the plastic, if not, I am scared to make a deposit later. Ouchy!

AH-MAZ-ING.  The entire Viga Shabang is Phe-Nom!!!  Food, Service, Eye Candy...the whole 9 yards of the Viga experience truly outshines any other downtown financial district lunch spot.  Not only is the menu jam packed with variety, but they have daily specials for each "category" of cuisine to boot!  Not gonna lie...when I pop in for lunch I end up picking up dinner to take home as well.

Baked Ziti is an every day option & has become one of my favorite comfort foods (especially when you dunk a fresh roll in the sauce).

Pizza: Pretty much New York style with massive slices and a tasty thin crust.  Just the right amount of sauce & cheese...and then the toppings...BAM!  They're super fresh & not overcooked or undercooked.  If Viga open on nights & weekends...I'd be ordering it over Upper Crust or any other pizzeria any day/night/weekend!

Sandwiches:  Both hot & cold options are fantastic.  Highly recommend the Meatball with extra marinara  AND the chicken parm.  If I place a catering order for my office & people know in advance that i'm ordering from Viga...the initial reaction is "YESS!  i LOVE Viga!". Whether its a massive deep dish loaded with pasta for 15 people or an assortment of sandwiches...its ALWAYS a success.

Lovely vegetarian options...no awkward or second par substitutes.
Salads: always big, fresh, & filling.

Fun little bonuses: whenever u place a catering order, you get a "Viga VIP" card stapled to your receipt entitling the holder to exchange it for a free lunch up to 8 bucks.  Considering Viga's awesome prices, you can get quite the lunch with that little VIP card :)

SERVICE: Every Viga employee I've ever encountered has been extremely friendly, gracious & attentive.  They truly aim to please their customers & go the extra mile by accommodating specific requests AND assisting me with making some delish selections based upon their recommendations & description of each.

    SHOCKING & UNIQUE ABOUT VIGA:

ANY time I've ordered from Viga, Aretha, the catering manager,  takes the time to PERSONALLY CALL me later that day to ask how our lunch was & Specifically, if our food & service was pleasing or met up to our expectations.  Who does that these days!??!!?  To my knowledge, Only Viga!!  That action alone displays their genuine dedication to pleasing their customers.

The only downer is that they're only open Monday - Friday & close at 3pm  :(

    DEAR VIGA,
If you were open for dinner and/or late night Monday - Friday AND weekends... I would totally make moves to build a big Viga Shrine & have it displayed on Guy Fieri's show on the Food Network.

Apologies for the longest review EVER...I just like to give credit where its due.  Go Viga!

I had the steak pizzaiola sub from here today.  It was, OK.  Just a few pieces of steak, some cheese, and a tiny bit of red sauce.  For the price, you'd think they'd double up on that steak.  It was all right.  The bread was a little tough but still soft.  I just wasn't impressed.

One of the best places downtown for a decent, not too expensive, filling lunch.

Good sandwiches, good selection. Can get a sandwich & drink for $7 which isn't bad for downtown. Everything seems fresh, and they use good quality ingredients. They have the best Chicken Parm around (not as big as Al's but I prefer how Viga does the check and the bread). They have this great focaccia bread in white or whole-wheat, it's just delicious, but probably a brazillion calories, but they'll do any of their sandwiches on a wrap.

There's a 4 or 5 Viga's around the city, their all good, but they all have one thing in common; the first you go you won't know where to stand! They usually have 4 lines: cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, pasta, pizza, so first time you go, ask someone what line they're in!

Initially, I was going to get the baked ziti (small was only $3.65) but it didn't look as good once I got in. The store is very small and the lines are long, but they get you in and out. I changed my mind to stuffed shells and I was disappointed when the server gave me two that didn't have a lot of cheese.

I've gone back to get the stuffed shells twice now and I love it. It's super cheap and you get a delicious roll to go with it. The sauce is so flavorful that even the lack of cheese on top doesn't bring it down.

Our department's been ordering food for luncheons from Viga catering for years and years, and I think they're solidly consistent. They're really easy to order from (our corporate account helps with this), their customer service and followup is excellent, their menu is large and diverse, their prices are pretty reasonable, they provide you with everything you need (extra sauce, utensils, serving spoons, etc), they're always on time... and most importantly, their food is solidly good. We've never been unhappy with anything we've ordered from them, from sandwiches to calzones to salads to hot entrees, and some items even merit a special shoutout... for example, today we tried their cashew crusted chicken which came with rice and carrots, and it was really delicious (and freshly made/hot), the entire group raved about it. They tend to be a step above from the usual sad work catering, and for that, Viga's one of my favorites to order luncheon food from.

I've gotten the terra luna (aka "fancy tuna sandwich") on focaccia once a week for probably two years now.  Sometimes I go twice a week, the second time for pizza.  The pastas are great, too, but it's tougher to convince myself that a huge bowl of wheat + cream/tomatoes is a very balanced meal.

Two things I've had bad experiences with: the veggie calzone, which contains about 17 pounds more cheese than I am realistically able to consume in a week, let alone a sitting; and the eggplant parm, which on top of being way too greasy, also happened to precede the beginning of a violent and prolonged attack of norovirus by about one hour.

    Y-U-M, YUM!

I bring lunch to work usually 3-4 days a week, and the reason I don't bring it all five is so that I can get lunch at this place. Call them and see if they have the Ortaggio sandwich on the specials today, and then plan time to take a long lunch and savor every bite. When I don't get the Ortaggio sandwich, I get penne with a meatball or the pesto linguine (one of the Tuesday past specials).

I love that they now have a wheat foccacia available...a wheat pasta option would make it hard for me to not get lunch here at least twice a week.

Great spot for lunch in downtown Boston. Service is lightning fast and the checkout staff is very friendly.

Salads are pre-made, but pretty fresh, the pizza is decent, and their sandwiches are very very good. It's essentially a good-but-not-great version of the average sandwich shop built for lunch, except they make the whole experience a pleasant experience. I'm especially fond of their BBQ chicken sandwich and the Thai peanut-chicken wrap special.

    Honey-wheat wrap? Yes, please.

Keep an eye out for interesting and tasty sandwich specials since they rotate every day, and be sure to pick up a Viga card if you decide to eat there again. You can get it punched every time you visit, and you get $3 off on your sixth visit, and $5 off on your twelfth.

**Also note that there are 4 separate lines to order food before you check out: cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, pizza, and pasta. I've never tried the pasta, but my coworkers say it's very good especially when you want something warm to eat in the Fall/Winter.

This place was SO good that I joined Yelp. I've been using this site for years but didn't feel the need to join until my co-worker, seeing how hungover I was from being at Fenway last night, insisted I go to Viga down the street for a pizza or calzone.

I walk in, prepared for a rush, but they move through people so quickly that it didn't matter. I see the special - chicken parm calzone - and think I'll give a shot. It takes a little longer because they made it fresh and right there but it was worth the wait and you can't beat people watching when people are so consumed with there blackberry that they're literally running into each other. Needless to say, I enjoyed my time there.

It was odd, the sauce comes seperate? But I ended up loving that. It was not messy and absolutely 110% delicious. Highly recommend! Great dough, great  chicken, good sauce. But I will say it was MASSIVE (looks are decieving).

Staff was super friendly and gave great recommendations for next time, I will be back next week. The sandwiches looked amazing so I'll probably go after the buff chicken or something. GO VIGA!

Viga is my favorite lunch place in Boston. It is about as "authentic Italian" as take out food gets. The prices are surprisingly low (they make up for it in volume between 12-1. The line is unbelievable, though don't be afraid. It moves very quickly). A killer sandwich on really good focaccia (or baguette or in a wrap) will run you no higher than 6 bucks (no higher than 7 if you are getting a steak-based sandwich). A slice of pizza is 3 bucks, and they have different kinds every day. The slices are big enough that I at 6'1 220 cannot eat two. Calzones are under 5 dollars with sauce and they are pretty excellent. I hope you are hungry if you get one as they are huge. I will say that I have had better sauce though.

What really makes Viga for me is the pasta. They have 2-3 different pasta specials every day that are for the most part out of this world. The Pasta Primavera on Wednesdays, and the Chicken Broccoli on Fridays are absolutely phenomenal. The cream sauce is fairly heavy, but it never seems to sit in my stomach. I myself get a small (3.50) that comes with a fresh roll and I am full and smiling. Get yourself a Viga lunch card (just ask one of the people at the register) and you'll get a free pasta, slice of pizza, or salad once in a while.

I recommend going to Viga before noon or after 1 to avoid the lines, but their employees are very, very fast (and friendly) so don't be afraid of peak hours. Be sure to get a daily specials menu to see pastas and pizza of the day. Don't expect to lose weight eating here, but do expect an excellent lunch on the cheap.

Oh and importantly, I cannot speak highly enough of the staff here. They all work very hard, make great sandwiches, are patient with customers, and are generally extremely nice. I have never had anything but positive interactions with any/all of them.

This place is just ok.  It's got a wide variety of things on offer, from pastas to pizza to sandwiches / wraps (both hot and cold).

It's always busy which I think is more a reflection of not having that many options in the area for quick carry out lunches.

I like the buffalo chicken wrap, the meatball sandwich, and an occasional slice of pizza when I'm in Boston on business.

If you are downtown and feel fit to navigate through the masses and find some decent quick Italian food that does not disappoint, check out Viga. Caters to the usual business lunch crowd. The line is usually massive, though it will move more quickly for pizza, calzones, and pasta, the sandwiches are worth the wait. The tomato sauce that they cover the calzone (extra charge) and utilize on the pizza is very good. The slices worth it for the price, kind of new york style. This location has a place to sit, but its pretty crazy during lunch hour.

Good quick italian, rotating daily menus, extremely reasonable prices, and very friendly staff. Really can't ask for more. One of the 2-3 locations around the financial district, they give you huge portions for lunch which can easily spill over to another day's lunch. Definitely try the daily special pastas. They're freshly made, taste great, and do an awesome job satisfying the munchies! Love that they give a piece of bread free with every meal now as well and that their staff is so nice.

This place is great, fast and cheap.  As a treat to myself, I get a small pasta with the delicious sausage, peppers and onions on top.  I've also had a really yummy focaccia sandwich here.  Once, I just wanted to add a roll to my salad I had brough and I bought one here for a quarter! (Can't do much better than that).  My only qualm is that it is too unhealthy to be anything but a treat.

Wednesday is no longer Prince spaghetti day - its Viga BBQ Chicken Pizza Day.  Period.  End of Story.  The reviews do not lie people!   If you are in the financial district and want a quick, inexpensive, delicious lunch Viga is where you go.  The Pizza slices are HUGE and so yummy.  The aforementioned BBQ chicken is the best I have ever tried and one slice fills me for the day.  The pasta specials are great too and even a small portion (that comes with bread) is a generous serving and plenty for lunch.  The sandwiches are also really hearty and sooooo good!   This place can get really crowded during lunch but the staff is so quick and efficient (on top of being really friendly and courteous) that you really don't wait for too long.

This place is awesome. The food tastes so fresh, and they know exactly how to combine ingredients. My sandwich of choice is the basilcata with chicken. Their focaccia bread is incredible, and so is their pesto spread.

I've also had their sausage and sweet onion calzone, and it is enormous. Even though i can easily make 2 meals out of it, its so hard to stop eating it cuz its so good.  They know exactly the right amount of meat to put in there without going overboard.

The prices are really good (sandwiches are under $6, calzones are under $5, slices of pizza as cheap as $2). They also have fresh rolls for $0.25 at the register, which are also fantastic.

I've been going there at least 2 times a week since January, and I will never get sick of it. I believe they also cater if you have a large group.

No matter what sandwich you order - make sure you get it on focaccia.  My personal favorite is the buffalo chix with rice and lettuce on focaccia - don't bother with the wrap.

Viga makes a maddenly great sandwich at a great price.   Their fresh-baked bread is awesome.  Highly recommend the Basilicata (fresh mozzarella, tomatoes and pesto) with chicken.  The place nails it on food, aroma, vibe, service, and value.    This place is Italian fast food as good as it gets.

Great food for lunchtime.  Perfect if you work at International Place or 125 High (or, I suppose, anywhere else around there!).  On winter days, shoot, I didn't even have to throw on my coat to get there ... it was awesome.  So much variety, but definitely have an idea of what you want before you get there ... the lines can be daunting!

I go here at least 3 days a week, what was I thinking only giving 4 stars. They also have a great buffalo chicken rap that you can get fried or grilled.

Great food, a must try. Seating area is a bit small and can be havoc during lunch hour but its worth it for the food. A must try.

Food is great - good variety for meetings, parties, any event requiring platters.  Delivery was on time and staff is very friendly.  Patient help with menu selection.  I ordered last minute lunch for 10 people and everything went very smoothly thanks to their assistance with planning and execution.  I needed to place a future order and was told they would help with that.  The very next morning when I walked into the office there was a "swag bag" waiting on my desk.  I received a sampler of breakfast selections, catering menus, and a red leather organizer with a Viga pen :-)  the bag is made from post-recycled material and is 100% recyclable.  I was impressed with the food samples (muffins are so moist and flavorful! fruit fresh and sweet!) and promptly placed orders for our meetings next week.
Viga is now my first choice for catering.  Service is above and beyond.  Perfect menu for the office.  Rave reviews of the food from a happy office team!  Very impressed.  Gabriela is a jewel!

Lunchy delights with an Italian twist await you at Viga. Tasty sandwiches, pizza and hot dishes that will quell the grumbliest of tummies and make your taste buds scream in delight. Daily specials keep things interesting, although if you're like me you can usually depend on your old standby to taste consistent. The line can be quite long - but it moves quickly - which is a sign that these folks know what they're doing.
