If you're looking to rent a movie in Vancouver and have the means to access Videomatica, you should go there. No question in my mind.
They're known for stocking cult, foreign and hard to find movies as well as housing the largest collection of good condition VHS in the city but, one thing nobody notes that all that says : They have one of the best GOOD movie collections in the city.
It doesn't matter what era or genre, videomatica tends to have the cream of the crop. I went to film school and my profs often took videos out here to show to the class. If you don't know what you want, but know you want something challenging or good head here.
Their one failing may be not stocking enough copies of the newer big releases but, honestly, give that up. Sure, some are good but why bother when you can just get a good movie you've never heard of or experience before here. It can be a bit overwhelming but the staff LOVES to recommend and you'll be better for it.
Videomatica is the steak tartar to most other Vancouver video joints baloney sandwich. Do yourself a favor and head there. -

In the mood for something a little strange? Foreign? A cult classic? Videomatica is a special kind of video rental shop that offers a very different selection than the big guys. It's not always going to carry the latest Hollywood blockbuster, but if you want more than exploding helicopters you'll find it here.
You can ask the staff for tips. I always found that they were really helpful. They take the time to ask you questions to a good idea about what it is that you want in a movie - they don't try to push what they like on you. So it can be the start of a beautiful evening on the couch.
They also have a few parking spaces in the back alley behind the shop. There's also a return drop-slot there, so it's easy to get the rentals back. -

The only place for foreign movies of all origins or odd ones that you can't find anywhere else, Videomatica is a great place for flicks. From documentaries, classic movies, foreign and new releases too, they really run the gamut when it comes to movies. The coolest thing?
They have silent movies, movies from the Vancouver International Film Festival, Literary adaptations, British, gay and erotica movies too. I like the Kitsilano location and the fact that you can sign up to get information on releases when they come in. The best part? $3.99 rentals on Wednesdays. -

Lovely staff help you find what you're looking for when searching through the racks becomes too daunting (and it does). Several computers help you search their database independently too, linking to hot picks (most popular rentals) and a slew of genres. You can also leave your feedback, offering up a 1 out of 10 rating, for the next discerning customer (oh, how us yelpers love to assign a rating!). Signing up for their facebook group gives you a chance to win monthly prizes too, kinda cool I think...but my favourite thing is their Impressive documentary section which always keeps me coming back for more.
