Review from Sarah M.
While this spa is not as luxurious as some and I felt less "pampered" by the staff than in some places, the massage more than made up for it.
At first I was skeptical of this place as I called and was placed on hold for 15 minutes only to be hung up on when it was my turn. I guess I'm a sucker for staying on the phone that long in the first place but I kept convincing myself I'd be next. Once I got a hold of someone, I was pleasantly surprised by how warm and friendly the voice on the phone was compared to the person who had put me on hold in the first place who had been cold and rushed. Luckily, I was able to book an appointment the night before for the time that I wanted.
I arrived 10 minutes ahead of my appointment time as suggested and checked-in and was brought upstairs to a waiting room where I filled out some paperwork. I was brought a cup of tea while I waited. The masseuse came to escort me back to my room (I can't remember her name for the life of me) and while she didn't chitchat much, she was still friendly but more "down-to-business."
She asked a couple of questions and then went to it. I think she would have asked more questions had I never had a massage before. I was pleasantly surprised that they used a hot oil to rub me down with which felt INCREDIBLE. Usually at places that I go to, they use lotion which they have to warm up in their hands first but it's still cold. The pressure was the hardest I've ever experienced but in a good way. Normally I keep telling them to go harder but they never really do but this one was good.
I don't think I've ever been so relaxed...I almost fell asleep and the 50 minutes went by way too quickly. I need to do this more often but at $150-ish a pop, I might need to look into other alternatives. If you stay at the Fairmont, they give you a $20 off card to use during your stay. However, there are some odd taxes and/or service fees that are added and then with a gratuity, it ended up being much more. -
Review from Jasmyn M.
Located at the base of Blackcomb, this spa was a nice retreat for my friend and I (neither of us are snow bunnies). We went early to use the other amenities like their steam room and sauna. Unfortunately, the spa's amenities are the same as the hotel's, so there were several kids using the pool while we were using the hot tub and the locker rooms were more crowded than I would've liked. On the plus side, the hot tub was located within a stone's throw of some chair lifts and we could watch everyone trudging in the snow with their gear while we happily sipped our mimosas with views of the lifts and mountains.
The spa treatments themselves were lovely. I had a body scrub, body wrap, and an hour massage. It was an enjoyable 2 hours, but probably the priciest spa I've been to ($295). My friend had a massage and facial (total of 2 hours) and it was approx the same price. Seems to be the going rate in Whistler because most of the other spas were similar too.
Although I enjoyed my experience, I'm not sure if I would go again. Would probably want to check another place out.
