Loved this place and I took a ton of pictures. Might have give them five stars except they don't allow flash photography, so I didn't get as many great photos as I might have gotten with flash. And, I wouldn't have dinged a star for this except for the fact that when we went to the Aquarium in Vancouver and went into their butterfly exhibit, they allowed flash (although they had far fewer butterflies).

Since this place doesn't allow flash and also since it has a ton of butterfly portraits for sale in the attached store, my guess is that the no-flash rule is more for the health of their sales than for the sake of the wild life.

Still, though, the place was terrific and having a butterfly land on my camera gave me one of those thrills you have when you're a kid. It is well worth the price of admission.

This was one of the interesting places to visit on my visit to Vancouver Island.  It's a large climate controlled environment with tons of butterflies, some parrots, flamingos, turtles, and other wildlife.

It was weird seeing butterflies everywhere, some so bold to land on people.  Having gone to a lot of zoos, I don't know if this is really well maintained as other places I've been to.  They don't necessarily have as many animals under one enclosure, but maybe for the welfare of the animals, that might not be a bad thing.

Butterflies are on the highway to extinction. They are as (or more) vulnerable to loss of habitat and pesticides than bees are and bees aren't doing well.

The Victoria Butterfly Garden is more than a butterfly exhibit. They have a butterfly ecosystem with larval and nectar plants and other animals around to show how the butterflies would live in the wild if there were anyplace left for them to live.
This garden gets 300-700 pupa/WEEK to make sure that, whenever you get there, you can watch butterflies hatch, fly, feed and mate. They get the pupa from butterfly farms in the Philippines, Costa Rica and London, because those places have created ecosystems to support the butterflies.
For those of us who don't get to see tropical food growing, the well marked exhibit of coffee, cardamom, pineapple, ginger, etc, is appreciated.

This place is good for adults as well as kids. I spent a decent amount of time here running after butterflies and trying to get fabulous pics. There are 2 flamingos as well. The Atlas moth is quite impressive and MASSIVE. They are nocturnal so you will not see them moving around (luckily). I enjoyed this place almost as much as Butchart gardens and it's very close to it. Tons of fun looking at all of the butterflies (although this is probably the hottest place in BC).

I loved that this place had more than just butterflies! Their were flamingos, frogs, chameleons, a parrot, koi pond, birds and some crazy lookin caterpillars! This place is like 3 minutes from butchart gardens and definitely worth the stop! Student and senior discounts and all the kids I saw were loving it :D

Don't know why Yelp has 2 listings for this place... but just in case people don't realize it's the same thing [Victoria Butterfly Gardens]... will re-post initial review.

Good for kids.  People working there are super friendly and very good with the little ones who ask 100 questions.  Also enjoyable is the hatching area, where you can see the cocoons of various species of butterflies.

Like other butterfly gardens, once you are in, you are free to roam around and watch the butterflies do their thing.  There were also birds and insects if you looked around, which is a little on the unusual side for a butterfly garden (in my humble opinion).

Saw some butterflies do a mating dance, saw a butterfly that lives 3-5 days once it is hatched, etc.  Also saw a few butterflies land on the floor... scary since it's not hard to land on it and kill it.

I think my expectations were really high after having gone to another exhibit at the Boston Science Museum a few years ago.  Definitely worth going if you haven't been to a butterfly garden before, otherwise, skip out for a different venue.

Great place to take pictures! Loved it. There were also turtles, lizards, frogs, flamingos, and other random creatures. You'll have a lot of fun :)

The Butterfly Garden is very wheelchair accessible. The doors to go into the garden are not automatic for the safety of the butterflies but overall was a delightful experience. I invite others to explore the Butterfly Gardens and other things in Victoria. Read full wheelchair access review here: http://www.wheelchairt...

I always love the flamingos, they seem to make me feel special, not to mention the beautiful fish, ducks and of course the Butterflies.  I always felt that there is something magic about the butterfly and it would be remiss of you not to stop there when you are coming or going to Butchart. as far as I am concerned it is a must see

There are some cool butterflies in there and a bit of education, too. The kids actually liked one of the birds more than the butterflies (a small black one that was fooling around with their feet) but the grownups liked the huge Atlas moth best. It won't entertain for more than an hour, for sure. We didn't try the free guided tour. A bit pricey for what you ge but not outrageous. It's on the way to/from Butchart Gardens, so a natural second, kids friendly stop if you're going there.

This was the first Butterfly i'll say aquarium I'd ever been to. So I thought it was fantastic. I have been to quite a few since then and none of them was as good as I remember this one. Now I don't know if I just getting jaded and the effect of having butterflies fall like snow has lost it appeal. I guess the next time I am in Victoria, I can put it to the test. But as it stands now this was the best Butterfly exhibit yet.

Perfect place to entertain a toddler for an hour or two.  There are many beautiful butterflies, but it goes much further with Pink Flamingos and Parrots.  It is not huge by any means, but worth the price of admission.  Ask for the AAA discount and save 10%.
