Super-nice staff. Saw us immediately (on a Sunday night) when my kitten got into a catfight and got the other cat's shed claw stuck in his eye. They checked him out as soon as we walked in the door, did a stain to rule out scratches on his eye and, upon finding out he was thankfully okay, they sent us home again -- with NO CHARGE!
They could easily have hit us up for at least a minimim visit fee, but didn't. We hopefully will never have a need for emergency vet care again, but if we do, we won't hesitate to come here.
(Entrance, as noted elsewhere, is at rear of building, not from Yonge Street.) -

It's an incredibly warm place.
At first I thought that this feeling was caused by the wonderfully warm staff who greeting us upon our arrival and carefully listened to our every concern while painstakingly documenting the crisis.
Then I started thinking that the perception of warmth could have been due to the absolutely phenomenal care that our beautiful puppy received. Oodle was kept blissfully sedated throughout his ordeal. He was waited on by friendly nurses and vet techs who clearly had his long term health in mind. We went to visit him in the ward and he couldn't have looked happier. The professionalism and thorough approach by the medical staff was exhaustive and top notch. Human beings would be lucky to have doctors this good.
Suddenly I realized it. It wasn't just a notion of warmth... it was actually warmer in the room than it was supposed to be. I peered around the corner to have a look and my mouth dropped to the floor with shock.
They were actually lighting our money on fire.
A large bonfire was in the center of the floor. This bespectacled rolypoly veterinarian was shoveling a large pile of dollar bills into the pyre as two vet techs preened and poked the embers with surgical instruments. The mesmerized faces of wounded kittens and puppies alike looked on with reckless abandon as the faces of Prime Ministers past became engulfed in the flames.
The whole thing was just surreal. -

This is the perfect place to go if you're loaded and you don't give a shit about your animal.
Since I am neither, I wish I'd never set foot in this horrible excuse for a vet hospital.
I took my dog here because she was in serious pain. Her body would tense up, her skin would turn blue and she'd roll over onto her side in agony. Not only did I have video of all this, but she presented symptoms to the technicians and surgeons that were on duty.
Without doing any sort of testing whatsoever, they decided she was a candidate for brachycephalic syndrome (blockage of the airway by soft palate and other tissues in the throat) and wanted to schedule her surgery immediately.
They told me that without the emergency surgery, she would surely die.
So reluctantly, I scheduled the surgery for the next morning at 8am.
Read this carefully. The quote they provided gave a range of $5,000 to $11,500. Yes, you read that right. ELEVEN FUCKING THOUSAND dollars.
I walked to the register to pay and was nonchalantly told by the clerk "that will be FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS." What? Are you fucking me? "Yes, we require a $5,000 deposit sir. Will that be cash or credit?"
So i took my dog and GTFO of there immediately, never to return. And never to pay their $186 doctor visit fee.
Why won't I pay it?
Well, the next day I phoned several other surgical facilities and was quoted much less over the phone. Anywhere from $2000 to $4000 on the high end.
Our second opinion included a cardio and neuro exam. The neuro exam came back positive for a spinal issue. There was nothing wrong with my dog's throat, so can you imagine how pissed I would be if they actually went through with the surgery?
Remember, they did absolutely no testing before deciding to quote me $11,500 for a surgery that would have been completely unnecessary.

We had to bring our 13 year old bichon frise here when she got sick. It was x-mas/New Years time and our regular vet closed up for that period. This clinic operates much like a factory business. Everything is done upfront and they are honest about the costs involved in every little procedure.
The cost of putting your sick animal in the clinic and running tests can add up quickly, but this place seems to have advanced techniques and equipment. The staff members aren't overly friendly. The best I can describe them is neutral. But they did take care of our dog very nicely. Her cage was clean, they bathe her, and gave her plenty of stuffed animals and a cushion to lay on.
In the end we had spent over $5000 for a few days, and no one could figure out what was wrong. On the dr's advice we sadly made the decision to end our dog's suffering. Hands down the hardest decision of my life. During the procedure the staff were extremely gracious and respectful. They allowed us to stay in the room with her until we were ready to go.
Overall impression, a safe place to put your animal, at a pretty high cost. This must be what the American health care system is like.. Yikes. -

I would not have take my dog to Veterinary Emergency Clinic if he is not suffering in the middle of the night. One can imagine the cost with be a lot more than your regular vet.
Unfortunately, he has IVDD which is specific to his breed and VEC does have neurologists on staff that able to operate on him within 24 hours of his ruptured disc. The alternative is to drive to University of Guelph in the middle of the night.
It is not cheap. Over $5000 but fortunately I do have insurance that cover 80% of the cost. This make it so much bearable. But it is still a shock to see the estimate and of course the final bill! And I do need to pay everything upfront!
I found all the staffs here are really professional. My dog was admitted and diagnosed within 15 minute of our arrival and sedative was given so he can be more comfortable. He was taken care through the night and able to see a neurologist and have a MRI and operation the next day. The staffs always keep me up to date with the progress.
I would definitely recommend going to VEC in case if your beloved pet got really sick when your regular vet is not available.
I am glad that this service is available for us pet owners to utilize!!
They accepts all credit cards, even Diners!
Even sadly my dog did passed away. -

We had two experiences with this organization:
1. We needed to use a specialty vet there (an animal eye specialist). She was okay and cured my dog's eye ulcer, but it was not cheap. However, the treatment involved some minor surgery on the eye which had to be repeated, so she did do quite a bit.
2. We were reluctant to use them when she was recommended because last summer another dog contracted a moderate fever. Instead of running blood tests and sending him home, they insisted on keeping him overnight and giving him IV, even when initial blood work showed no infection. We wound up paying over $1000 and the dog got better on his own within 24 hours. Plus they gave us a hard time about releasing him the next morning to go to his regular vet because the appointment was not until 2. But when we picked him up, he was already better and there would have been no danger taking him home - he was obviously not seriously ill at that point.
These people are not incompetent, but they are located in an area with lots of rich people just shell out dollars without questioning anything.
We have a regular vet (Bloor Animal Hospital) that is not 24 hour but has evening emergency service and you can leave your pet overnight if needed. Unless something happens at 2 AM, we will not visit this place for emergency service any longer. -

This place costed me loads of money but my dog is doing amazing so it's all worth it. She was diagnosed with stage 5 lymphoma summer of 2010 and now, March 2011, she is in remission and doing great (fingers crossed). Last summer she was doing so poorly I didn't think she'd survive the weekend and now she's running around the park and enjoying life.

High quality of care, and high prices to go with it. Our bouvier, Walter, needed TPLO surgery on both knees. Our regular vet trusted his dog to this clinic for the same surgery; they cost a lot, but they do good work.
