You've seen one convention, you've seen them all! Tucked away in the very inconvenient and very non-transit area of Courtney Park & Hurontario lies a place that doesn't believe in serving good food or keeping their promises.
My friend's sister was doing a fundraiser for Canada Stop Human Trafficking and the whole things was bit of a bust. Never mind that the event was one bad media Il-literacy course... the food was terrible and the service was almost non existent.
The event began at 6:30, yet no bartenders were at the bar until 7pm (so much for a cocktail reception). The food was shit! I am not a picky eater and I have to say that this must have been some of the worse food I have ever eaten. The chicken was dry as hell, the salad was made of iceberg lettuce and the deserts were gross.
To make matters worse the venue promised the organizers that they would be the only event in the building that night (which was good because we had two violinists). It turns out there was a huge Indian wedding right next to us. Their music ended up drowning some of ours and interrupting the general evening presentation. I should note that the audio visual equipment was crap too (but I am not sure who it belonged to).
The bathrooms are in the basement of this place and were very unkept. No toilet paper, no soap and don't even get me started on the stained toilet seats *shivers*.
God forbid you stumble upon this place while looking for a venue or place for your wedding... I don't know what they charge but keep looking, it's not worth it! -

SAVE YOUR TIME, MONEY, AND ULTIMATELY YOUR HAPPINESS!!!
I just had my reception this past weekend and it was a COMPLETE DISASTER!!!
They promise you everything, and they will say all the right things... but wait until the execution part comes.... what a let down.
1) Cocktails were supposed to begin at 6pm- the hall was not even set up. They finished setting up at 645pm- unacceptable.
2) They messed up the table numbers and my family ended up sitting two rows behind the front row. This was a floor plan that they provided with numbers that they assigned- unacceptable.
3) Washrooms= gross! Walmart and the Real Canadian Superstore have better washrooms, they are functional and have soap (yeah I know it's scary).
4) Bartenders come at $200 each and you have to have 2 of them, which means you are paying minimum $400! Too bad they are Polish ladies with no bar tending experience and little knowledge of the English language. I thought at least they would get professionals since they asked me to pay them as so.
5) Paid for the projector and screen- had to chase down people to get it ready. This is not what you need to be doing 15 minutes before the program is starting when the hall is full of guests.
5) And worst of all... arrived at the hall, noticed that they didn't put out enough tables. I asked them for 5 more tables, and they said sure... but pay us cash right now! WTF! I am at my reception, I've already paid in cash at least $10, 000.... and they are acting like thugs requesting money right then and there. And the cold callousness of the owner (Tiger), he said no money no tables. My mom had to leave the reception, go back home, get her bank card and get money from the ATM. What a horrible experience. I would have happily paid the next morning, but to shake someone down 30 minutes before their reception is nothing short of disgusting and shameful.
Look, if you want to save money, then definitely use Versailles- but keep in mind, what you save in money you will pay for in terms of service and your happiness. I might have saved $5,000 on the event, but the disastrous outcome was worth much more than that. I would have paid another $10,000 to have everything work perfectly and work with people in the service industry who take their role seriously and work with ethics and pride.
This place and its staff are a joke... like I said BEWARE!!! If I can help anyone reading this it is by sharing my experience, please do yourself a favour and don't make the mistake I did.... find a place that has a great staff that is truly committed to your happiness and your event.... this is definitely not the place. You can get back your money, but time does not come back.... my reception was decent but it was not great because of this company... remember that.
