Just to update, this remains an absolutely beautiful place to hang out. Coffee here is good and prepared with care. Food is great. Owner, manager, and staff always great in my many visits.

Expanded outdoor seating makes this one of the best patio places in Eugene.

The atmosphere is lovely, ambient, pretty furnishings, but the espresso was extracted too quickly, with a very light colored crema, and the espresso itself was uninspired, bitter, no flavor complexity. I didn't even finish it.

The selection of loose teas, on the other hand, was fabulous, and they offered both cups and pots, nice if you are planning to hang out for a while.

A Vero Espresso haibun for you:

A sunny seat, a lukewarm treat,
    Soft music plays-
    Are these plates
    really from Pottery Barn?

This quaint, warm Victorian coffee house was almost a terrific idea. The decor is soothing. The patio is pleasant, the wooden tables are gorgeous, the windows stream in sun, and the hanging flower baskets are a lovely touch.

But I don't agree that my (under-extracted) coffee should have hints of 'Fuji apple, blackberry, and perfume' (It's not wine, is it?) even if the brew deserves special tasting accolades, even if the bottom of the mug is marked 'Pottery Barn'.

And what makes the plush, straight chairs all the more uncomfortable to sit in is the fact that the proprietor chooses daily quotes like, "Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing" to display beside the door. I know that the price of my oatmeal was $4.50. It is not too much money, nor is it very little when the oats are stale and the hot water bland. There is a certain je nais se quoi in having your morning oatmeal with a splash of hot milk and a spoonful of brown sugar. Bits of dried nut & fruit (hippie food served at pretentious prices) just aren't the same.

Though the coffee, porridge and staff was, on first visit, a little sour, I was willing to give the beautiful Vero another chance. I brought my friends.

He asked, "Is your potato and bacon soup as good as it sounds?"

She replied, "Well..I dunno. I think those are normally things you should eat on a plate. They shouldn't go in a soup.'

He, taken aback, asked, "Oh... well, are any of your other menu items good?"

    She responded, "Eh. Not really."

    Well said.

Bottom Line: Barista Puts it Most Succinctly.

My first time at the charming Vero today. I had an Americano & the Veggie Panini with fresh fruit.  The coffee was good & prepared quickly, the guys at the counter were nice & the food was yummy. I met my friend there & we did talk a lot. Relaxing & vibrant at the same time.

Vero is a beautiful old Victorian house on a corner, well converted.  If you have your coffee indoors, it's lovely.  The food is, for the most part, good, & they have free wi-fi, with some outlets you can use.

Now for the downside:  For what you get, the food is somewhat overpriced.  I'm P.O.'d that they no longer have free refills for house coffee--you can have one refill, and you have to pay extra for that.  If you want more, you have to pay full price again.

While it used to be a nice quiet place to have a quiet talk with a friend or take your tablet PC, it now is often noisy.

Outdoors, they have a nice deck area, but the nearby busy street is so loud its difficult to carry on a conversation.  The section farthest away from the street isn't bad, but still has more traffic noise than I like.  Parking is on the quieter street, and rather sparse, so it takes a bit of luck to get a space on the same block.

I quite enjoyed my experience at Vero. Located in a cute yellow house filled with mismatched tables and chairs, there seems to be plenty of space to hunker down with a good book, your latest knitting project, homework, or to visit with a friend. My americano was quite good (Stumptown) and my friend enjoyed her latte as well. The place was full the whole time I sat there--I imagine that it is tough to get a seat there sometimes, but it makes for good people watching. We had already eaten lunch, but I saw someone with a veggie sandwich that looked pretty tasty and took note of it for future visits before realizing that it would be awhile, since I live so far away. I'm sure that if I went to UO, I'd be a regular... it's very conveniently located close to campus.

The paradigm here is coffee done right, not coffee done quickly... and that's just fine with me. Drinks take a little bit but they are simply delicious when they arrive. The place gets even better on a nice day, due to the terrific outdoor seating options available.

Only warnings go out to the laptopped among us: WiFi is free and quick here, but come fully charged. Especially outside, it's often hard to find electricity.

By the way, try the bagels: huge, fresh, yummy, and served with a little bit of fruit. Nice touch!

Gorgeous old house cozy shabby chic atmosphere. They just expanded the deck for more outdoor seating under the big shade trees. It has become the go-to place for the arts community  - and students - lots of student. I love it.

A few things about this establishment: it's a wonderful, cozy place to pull out your computer and do work for a few hours. But let me say this: the baristas and workers can be, uhmmm, a bit standoff-ish and unfriendly. The girl that rang up my order was not personable at all, and she didn't make me feel very welcome whatsoever.

So basically, i'd give this place four stars...but because of the not-so-great service, i'm knocking off one star. The end.

This place is classy yet comfortable.  Really unique, great vibe, lots of windows (great on a sunny day), and thoughtful music choice.  And for $3, a GIANT bagel, perfectly toasted and oozing with cream cheese.  Fantastic.  I'm no coffee connoisseur, but I enjoyed my latte as well.  I wouldn't go here alone-- a little too nice for that.  But with a friend, it's a perfect place to spend an hour or two and have a chat.

My new favorite all around coffee spot in Eugene.  Why, do you say, with all the other options?

    --Top notch coffee

--Excellent, mellow outdoor seating on a nice deck under trees.

--Good food options--actually GREAT food for a place that also has great coffee.  Most coffee-centric places offer some kind of pastry, and that might be very good; Vero's pastries are great, and they also have some egg dishes, sandwiches, waffles etc. that is all of very high quality (i had some nice scrambled eggs with GOOD toast and fruit, with some really high quality jam for the toast.

    --Friendly people too.

Go to spot for post-run joe and snack.

Passed by here on the way to our son's basketball game.  My wife was wanting coffee to get her day going, and suggested Starbucks.  I mentioned, that I seen Vero just a block or two down and thought we would help keep it local.

I liked the set up of the place, has a warm, cozy feel to it.  Very tight quartered though.  I'm a big guy, and small spaces just aren't my "cup of coffee".  That was a horrible joke I know...

Our service was OK, the girl taking the orders at the register was smiling, and kind to our little girl who was shouting, "COFFEE!!" Not that we let her have it, (cuz we dont!) but she's ultra observant and knew what was going down.

I drink coffee RARELY.  But I did find that my Mocha could've been a touch sweeter.  I'm not down with bitter coffee drinks. None the less, It didn't crack me out, which was good.  My wife didn't complain about hers either, so that's a plus.  We did get a cheese bagel that wasn't too shabby.  It was decent sized and had a nice crispy outside with a soft, chewy inside.  That was good for sure and we all enjoyed it.

I could've gave 1 more star if the coffee was more to my liking, or the prices were a bit cheaper.  We paid $11 for a 12oz, 16oz, and a bagel.  That's not bad really, but still....the thought crossed my mind.

I also EASILY could've deducted one star if service would've been less than par as seen in other reviews.

The place itself is nice and cozy, but the service bites.  I've never gotten good or even decent service at this place.  I think the female barista was angry that day.  I don't know what her deal was because I asked her what a drink was and she just stared at me until the other barista answered.  She gave me this angry look as if I should know what was in the drink.  I was bothered by that.  She was just plain rude.  I think I ordered a slice of pie once and they didn't even ask if I wanted it heated.

There are not many outlets and the tables are small.  It's a nice spot to sit and talk, but definitely not a good place to study if you want to use your laptop.  I like the big windows.  Prices are fine.  Service sucks balls and I think there is a minimum for credit card use, which also sucks balls.

I would give Vero 6 stars if I could. I work near by and they have me completely spoiled. I almost can't go to any other coffee shop in Eugene. Some places it's hit or miss and nothing is worse than having a bad coffee to start your day. At Vero the coffee is always amazing. The staff is always friendly and they always remember my regular order. It's pretty much ready for me before I say anything. The atmosphere is great. It's perfect for a coffee date or just geekin' it up on your laptop. You can't blame them for feeling like they are always being hit on..because they probably always are. The staff is goodlooking!

Wonderful spot in a central location, close to campus and downtown, Vero is probably my favorite coffee house in the Yewj.

For starters, and as other Yelpers note, Stumptown is the brew here. It's really hard to go wrong when you've got the basics so right. Note to you tea-drinkers, the leaves are pretty special here too. Loose leaf to the max!

Second, they open early, like 7am. This piece is key when you have a small group of breakfast buddies who you like to see before work some mornings. It's nice to have another option.

Third, the vibe. It's very college-y while still feeling welcoming. I love it. You easily feel like you can pull up a chair, pull out a book or a laptop, and settle in.

My only complaint is with some of the prices of their food items. They seem a bit, ... off. For instance, my last trip there was after a day of meetings, and I hungrily ordered a bagel, toasted with cream cheese and a slice of tomato. I think the price was close to $5. Really?

But even that's not enough to keep me away. Nope, the range and quality of the snacks (both savory and sweet) that accompany the "Damn fine cups of coffee," they pour make me one satisfied customer.

I was certainly in the moment when I arrived at Vero. The Autumn colors are in full bloom all around the cafe and people were sitting at the outside tables enjoying the weather.

The location totally has a residential feel to it and this cafe is a home away from home for people on their laptops.

I fell a little bit in love with Eugene at Vero Espresso. The place was nearly full with a great cross section of locals young and old. I was impressed and felt really comfortable.
The offerings for food are varied, breakfasts and light lunches. I had an amazing cup of Ginger Yam soup and a great cup of coffee. I'm planning on stopping in again next time I'm passing through Eugene.

Ok so as you can probably already gather, Vero has some great things going for it.

The one thing that keeps me going back here however is hands down the Stumptown. Its my favorite. Also, their food items are pretty good, and I love just about anything thats located in a charming old house.

The one thing thats a bit of a downer is their prices, and for that reason I probably only go a few times per month.

We were vacationing to Eugene, and asked our hotel's receptionist for a good local coffee place. He pointed us in the direction of Vero.

Upon arrival we were impressed with the atmosphere. We were unsure what to order, since it was our first time there. The woman taking our ordr was patient while we decided.

In the end, I ordered a house coffee with the breakfast bagel, and my wife orderred a caramel frappe and a veggie bagel.

Everything was excellent, the coffe was bold and well rounded, the breakfast bagel was excellent, the frappe was full of flavor, and the veggie bagel was strong and balanced.

If I lived in Eugene, I would buy a veggie bagel every morning and eat half for lunch and half for dinner.

Excellent place to calm your nerves before a trip to Pearl Day Spa, knock out a couple solid hours of work remotely off free wifi, or catch up with friends in style.

Enter on 14th ave, the Pearl St entrance is locked.  Sprawling array of outdoor seating on the patio.    Airconditioned conservative-drawing room interior (leather, dark wood, Frank Sinatra crooning piped in).

Matt was extremely amiable as baristas go.  I'm not sure if it was because he's so good at drawing folks out, but it seems like a close-knit friendly community.

Standard drink menu with fewer frills and slightly higher prices (approx .$0.25-$0.50 more for a mocha/chai/etc. type beverage than what you'd see at Starbucks).  Limited but quality selection of desserts from Sweet Life.  Visa/Mastercard (no Amex) accepted.

    Definitely worth a second trip!

Vero has to be the cutest coffee shop in Eugene.  I mean, it looks like a house for goodness sake!  Classic Eugene.  It's cozy and comfortable, and the paninis are pretty decent.

The drawbacks?  The coffee is average (nothing special), computer outlets are hard to come by, and an open seat is even tougher.

The girl behind the counter seemed a little pissed. She also barked at the guy behind me to leave the door open, guess she was warm.

My drip coffee was good. I like all the windows on the west end of the building and the big Victorian chairs. The music was conducive to reading, however, the loud conversations around me were not.

I guess if you really want to enjoy a book without interruption you should go to a library.

Vero is alright. $2 for a drip coffee is more than I'd usually like to pay, but I'm pretty broke.

I spent 5 weeks in Eugene for school, and during my time there I really enjoyed studying at Vero.

They had some great food options, coffee from Stumptown (my favorite, and it also made me feel like I was back in Portland), and the best part was the seating arrangements.

They had a variety of tables and chairs, with ample lighting.

The only thing I would change was the number of electrical ports for people's laptops - it didn't seem like there were enough.

    p.s. the cold-pressed coffee is a +

The place is beautiful but the hours don't work for me during the week. Seven days a week 7am to 6pm is a good start but I like my coffee shops open a little longer.

This review is based mainly on appearance and potential because we rolled in a little after 6 Friday evening but they had already shut down for the day. Owners were nice enough to let us look around and offer us a free coffee coupon. We like to take walks in the neighborhood after work  so we'll definitely be back to actually try out the drinks. I didn't get the man or woman's name but they seemed genuinely open to extending the hours based on how many folks had strolled in after 6 that day.

The place is a converted Victorian-esque house right on Olive and 14th. The interior is very cozy and bright with all of the windows exposed, plenty of seating for around thirty with more on the nice shady patio out front. There was a separate more formal room for meetings with A/V hookups to a flat screen for business folks that looked like it could hold 8-12 people.

I look forward to going back and trying the coffee because the first Yelper Clay S. said they served Stumptown beans. Stumptown out of Portland is one of the best coffee roasters to be found on the West Coast in my opinion and is under represented in Eugene, no disrespect to Wandering Goat or Allan Bros. or any other of the local roasters.

Vero is easily the best place in Eugene for espresso.  Here is why: Consistently good espresso.  One of my biggest struggles when moving to Eugene was to find a place that served good espresso.  Now don't get me wrong, there are a lot of places that have good espresso, but there aren't that many good baristas in Eugene.  A bad barista can make dishwater out of a batch of good beans in no time.  I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but my experience has been that most every other place I have been, and I have been to almost all of them, will give you a sour shot half (or more) of the time.  Many of these baristas are nice people and the drip coffee they pour is probably just fine.  But if you are like me and prefer espresso, beware of the bad barista in Eugene.

About a year after Vero opened, I started to wonder what magic they were working over there in order to avoid Eugene's bad barista dilemma and asked the owner if they had some sort of special training program or something.  It turns out that they do.  It looks like the owner has Stumptown coffee come in and train all of their baristas, and even has them come down to do refreshers once and a while.  Stumptown also provides their coffee beans, which if you are familiar with Stumptown, you know that this is a good thing.

Anyway, if you are like me and are tired of getting a bad shot of espresso in your americano, then fret not for Vero is there to provide your caffeinated goodness.

If I were only coming here for coffee and chat-time, I'd spring for 4 stars.  However, lunch-eaters be warned.

The turkey basil panino, while tasty, is not quite worth the $6.50 (plus tip, if applicable).  The portion is small for the price, and the fresh fruit medley leaves something to be desired.  The medley consists of a strip of honeydew, 4-5 blueberries, and one sliced strawberry.  It serves as more of decoration than actual lunch fare.

The service is good, and the (almost elegant) water jug features sliced lemon.  Nice touch.

I would highly recommend Vero for those who wish to sip on iced tea or coffee while sitting outside enjoying the warm weather and the company of good friends.

This location provides a sense of quaint loveliness that is somewhat lacking elsewhere in Eugene.  For those who are short-term Eugenians (or those who come from larger cities), this cafe might just pleasantly remind you of home.

I came here this morning for a cup of coffee and to do a little networking. It was my first visit, and I was impressed. The baristas are very friendly. I ordered the borgia--they won't make it to go, so of course I had to try it. There's a very small selection of pastries/breakfast goodies, but my croissant was flaky and delicious. The borgia took a few minutes to make, but it was worth the wait. The space is well decorated and comfortable; they've really done a nice job turning this old house into a funky but charming little space.

Vero is now open from 7 to 7, which seems typical of coffee shops in Eugene. (Really, it is nice to be able to sit in a coffee house past 9 PM, even when you're old enough to go to a bar instead). With La Perla and The Pearl Day Spa nearby, I think I could find a way to kill a few hours in this part of town on a Saturday.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Eugene.  First priority is good bean and Vero serves Stumptown from Portland which is the best in town IMO.

Second priority is a nice atmosphere and this is one of the very best in town.  Nice seating area with hardwood floor and lots of different table and chair sizes and types.

There are usually lots of people hanging out on their laptops so I'm in good company when I want to get some work done while enjoying my coffee.  There's a definite lack of power outlets and the seating is usually pretty full so charge up that battery if you want to work on your laptop.

Vero, when will you serve vegan-friendly food so I can have a vegan scone, pastry or donut with my coffee?  It wouldn't be hard to at least get Holy Donuts delivered daily.

Love it!  The product, service, setting, location!  They are doing it right.  This is a great place for a first date, meeting girlfriends, bringing out of town visitors, etc.

Cool place to hang out.  Lots of seating in and out.  Service was friendly.  Looked like a lot of good baked goods. I didn't try any though as I'm watching my girlish figure.
