Great sound, even better staff.
I always just take a sweater and hang on to it to avoid coat check (and i do this at MOST bars i go to anyways).
Live bands and live DJ sets are AMAZING here. I'd have to say that 11$ for two beers wasn't bad at ALL for a weekend evening. Maybe I'm just a little younger, but to me, that is par - if not decent for a Granville street club on a weekend. -

Once again I'm surprised to find out I hadn't already written a review for this place. I love seeing live bands here and have never been to it for the later evening club stuff.
For live music it's awesome. It's small, intimate, has a decent sized dance floor and an upper level if you can get there early to snag a seat. The bars are well located so it's easy to get a drink and the staff are cool. Ticket prices are usually pretty reasonable and the shows are early so they can move on to the nightclub after. This works well when it's a week night and I have to get my beauty sleep. It's a fine balance between work hard/play hard you know!Listed in: Ain't Nothing Like the Real…

Ladies and gentlemen, Chris Farley is alive. I would have alerted the media, but I garnered no visual evidence. All I can say is I plunged into him dressed as a woman at the Antlers show at Venue last weekend. Truthfully, HE plunged into ME after asking me to scoot over six inches to give the couple beside him more room. Necking and smearing all over each other, the couple clearly gave no flying flip about being mashed together against the railing on the second floor. After I claimed to have no space, Chris retreated down a couple stairs and then took a running leap into me in an attempt to create more room.
I refused to budge or acknowledge Chris' khaki Cabela's cap, Call Girl Red fingernails or leopard pattern blouse, even as he continued to press into my hips with all his body weight, blocking my view with his Flip camera.
My boyfriend looked over and noticed Chris shaking, trying to sip his Smirnoff Ice with a jumbo straw. Finally, he sulked away.
Was I part of an SNL skit all along?
Is this part of Chris Farley's much anticipated resurrection and comeback??
Did the Antlers' keyboard effects and rich vocals cause me to hallucinate???
Like I said, I should have taken a picture. -
Review from Kat S.
This is one of those places I walk past on my way to somewhere else and think, "eccch, gross... we never dressed like that when I was 19." When this place is in club mode it attracts the bar stars that shiver outside in 6 inch heels and less clothing than I wear to the swimming pool. Alas, I had tickets to a concert, but thankfully this show didn't attract the clubbers.
Overall, I'm not a fan, simply because of the prices, but the staff were actually nice and the sound is good for live shows.
I was shocked to find out how expensive drinks and coat check were. $4 for coat check, and even if you share a hanger with a friend, it is still $4 per item. Ouch! I'd be happy to leave a tip if I wasn't being gauged so much for the price.
Drinks were even more pathetic. $5.75 for a bottle of Pilsner. I don't think I have ever paid so much for Vitamin P. If you want anything fancier, be prepared to pony up another $1 for Blue Buck. It comes from the island, it wasn't imported from Tibetan monks. Eff.
Like I said, the staff were actually friendly and the space is a good one for a live show, but pre-drinks are definitely in order if you want to leave without a hole burnt in your pocket. And when the show is over the bright lights come on so they can shoo you out and turn it back into a club and rake in some more money from the bar stars and their gangster boyfriends. -

Meh. More or less indifferent on this...er, Venue. Bad attitude from servers but seemingly nice bouncers and coat check girl, drunk 19 year old girls looking like Amy Winehouse trying to scrap and 2 enormously different bottle service quotes? Eff that noise.
I like the space, itself; it's simple, spacious, though the booths in the middle could be toned down for more dance floor space. And I do love house mashups so the music is pretty solid.
But... I'd probably go elsewhere. -

First time seeing a small venue concert in Vancouver. Went to see Matt Nathanson, as I had seen him open for Maroon 5 and Train in Abbotsford this summer.
Matt Nathanson is an AWESOME performer, he has like a dozen records out and has been doing this for years. I can't believe I'm just hearing on him now. Get his new album Modern Love, NOW! Ok just kidding. But he is like a cross between a great performer and stand up comedian. He knows how to work the crowd.
We arrived right after 7 and stood in line to come in. It said doors open at 7, but they did not. Took them a while to get going. I think we got let in around 7:15-7:20. Don't bring any big bags with you or you will have to check them and hope your stuff stays intact.
All the booth seating was gone from the first 20 people in line ahead of us but we did get bar seating, so that was fine.
I think the opening band didn't start until 8:15 and then they did a 30 min set, and then there was a 30 min break for setting up Matt's band equipment.
I was sitting at the bar on the right side, there was a dark haired girl tending it there. But she's probably the slowest bar tender I've ever seen at a club... the guys I knew at Moxie's restaurant are faster than her. She made people line up in a cue and order. Even though I was sitting at the bar I had to give up my bar stool to stand in a long line just to order a water. So this peeved me a bit.
The speaker system was really good here, it had great sound and bass. Definitely a lot for such a small venue.
Everyone was having a good time, most watched the concert and few got drinks while Matt was playing on stage.
I think he opened at 9:15 and then played for about an hour and a half. Pretty much everyone clears out after the show to head home, even though it's open til 1 am.
I wouldn't hesitate to come back here for another concert. I wouldn't come here unless it was something I liked playing though. It is pretty small and can get a little chilly. They leave the doors wide open outside all night, so bring a jacket if you're likely to be cold. I didn't take mine off, and I was freezing inside. -

Last couple times I've been here there were multiple fights each time. They were quickly handled by the bouncers, but that kind of kills the mood.
No gangstaz please.Listed in: Bar-ry's List of Bars and…

I came here for a couple of events and every time we are here the people that work here are extremely rude, but their decor is amazing.
I will only give points for their decor and the location. The chairs and the booths are amazing. I enjoy their comfortable seating, but with everyone standing, you can not see the performance on the stage at all. The second floor looks amazing, if only the opened it sometimes to have a HUGE FULL house, and yes the "Green Room" is located there as well... Not surprised though.
I came here for atleast 4-5 concerts already, and the bands come here because it's cheap. Their sound system is terrible, and the people that work here are very rude to the viewers who are trying to have a good time. I was never rude to the people that work here, but what ever it is the people that work here have to get off their high horse and start treating people like people. -

Awesome selection of music, not only just top 40, but dub/electro and even some of the concerts have been great. I personally know more than 80% of the staff and can say that they are all great people. One of my reccomended, places to go in vancouver.
For the most part pretty diverse in terms of people who attend. Can be kind of loud, but has an 'energetic' atmosphere. -

We had the CMYE: food and wine taste festival here. What a cool experience! My date had no complaints except for artist. His graffiti art really wasn't to our liking, but, hey, he raised $180 bucks, half going to charity.
The floor plan of the venue seems a little dysfunctional with 3 bars on the bottom floor. A little overkill. -
Review from Gina I.
Cute little club for taking in awesome shows on a Sunday night. The awesome booths for resting and sipping your drinks? Can't be beat. It gets pretty crowded in here, but it's pretty easy to move around in at least.
The drinks (depending on what you order) are expensive. Vodka and Redbull was like $11 and a 151 & Diet Coke was $8.75.. Oh well, it's a club and that's what you get for drinking at one. -
Review from Evilyn T.
Formerly known as The Plaza, we came here last night to see Little Boots. I hadn't really been in to Venue, since the renovations, and I must say, it is sooooooooo much better! You can move so much more freely in the bar since there isn't an island in the middle of the dancefloor selling you liquor. They got rid of the booths around the edges of the room and replaced them with mini bars, so you never have to wait in line, and there are a few bar stools and ledges where you can chill out of you need to. They have added a grid that hangs from the ceiling as well, that could hold lighting rigs. All of these things fool you into thinking the room isn't as big as it really is and makes 80 people crammed onto the dancefloor feel more like 200. And if you think there are more people than there is, it feels like a pretty rockin' party.
I had a double rum and diet for $10, which is a pretty standard price. I paid about $20 for the ticket to get in, which is totally fair, for two bands (even though I missed the opener.) It was pretty funny to see a bunch of American Apparel-wearing hipsters in the club rocking their shoelace headbands and tshirt dresses with knee high boots that are too wide for their legs, and a few Gaga girls, as opposed to the regular chochy clientele in their polo shirts with the collars turned up. I can honestly say I am not a fan of the crowd that frequents this place, but it is an excellent Venue for a live show, and I hope they bring us more good shows in the future.Listed in: Best Pubs/Clubs

I was here for the first time last Saturday to see Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. I liked the acoustics of the venue and the layout is pretty good, but the price of drinks is hiiiiiigh... $7.50 for a hi-ball (just a single, doubles were like $11) and $6.50 for most beers. Ugh, no thanks. It didn't help that coat check was $4.00. Maybe I'm just cheap, but I think that's kind of a rip.
The staff were aweseome and hilarious, making jokes with their co-workers and having a good time at work. They didn't kick the crowd out who saw the show to make room for the clubgoers, which I thought was pretty decent of them. Most of the crowd decided to leave after the show anyway, so there was this nice mellow in between time to chat and have a drink.
Doesn't seem like my kind of place on a regular club night but it was good to see a show. -

Behold the latest hotspot of Vancity! In the heart of Granville Street and the invader of the old Plaza Nightclub, Venue is the freshest site for dancing, djs and delectable beats.
Don't get deterred by the dust and drab of the Granville Street's construction...Experience the latest scenester scene. A new layout with a large dance floor and a stage that'll highlight the sickest djs and artists on a grandeur scale. Get a load of the LEDs and be surrounded by sweet sounds. It's the next best intimate and live concert spot after the Commodore. And, the bouncers are astonishingly friendly (I know, right?!) so give it a go.
Four stars out of five and here's the reason: The crowd is young and the lineup is semi-long. Make sure to get GList or hit up the girl on the corner of Granville and Nelson for a complimentary pass.
Youngsters, hipsters and scenesters rule this joint but the music and positive vibe conquer the crowd. Bring your band of brothers with you and spread the word. This venue can only get better so let's make it happen. -

I went to Venue for the first time last summer when Calvin Harris was in town.
I really admired the décor, the service, the sound system, and above all the LED light-covered DJ booth and back wall. It was literally like being in a dream where sounds and images merged into one. We listened to three DJ sets last night, and all of them were superb.
Ruby Sethi, the promoter at Venue, is always super friendly and accommodating when it comes to guest list requests. For my birthday, they set up a set of sofas right next to the dance-floor at no extra cost + she gave me 4 or 5 VIP passes for no cover charge.
If you are into electro music, Youngblood Sundays are a must! This is a pretty gay-friendly club where nobody will stare at you or bother you if you are dancing with someone of the same sex. I really like the fact that I haven't seen any fights or major drama at Venue so far.
Overall, I would say Venue is definitely in the top 5 when it comes to clubbing in Vancouver. -

awesome music every time i'm here. they have a wide range of dub/electro/top40s remixes, and it never gets old.
bouncers are not the same typical a holes you will find at caprice or any other snobby club. The staff are laid back, atmosphere is laid back... except for this one blonde barsmaid who purposely ignored me at the bar... -

Since I'm old and the only band I ever go see now on tour is the Raveonettes and this is where they seem to play now that Dick's on Dicks is toast, I'll give it 3 stars.
Honestly, though, it can't hold a candle to Dick's. At least they got rid of the obtrusive bar smack dab in the middle of the club and pushed the bars of to either side of the "venue." I had to laugh getting a patdown at the door. Really? They expected gang violence at a Raveonettes concert?
Whatever. Anyway, the Venue is fine by me as long as it books alt acts. -
Review from Dani B.
Thank god the name actually describes this place accurately. This place ain't no Richard's (R.I.P.) but its not too shabby at all. Its a giant black box with two levels but enough room to dance and view your favorite shows. And, by the looks of it new acts keep playing here so get used to Venue being the place to see your favorites.

This used to be the Plaza, which I liked a lot. Venue is better. The BASS.... woah. It is the PUREST bass I have ever FELT. This sound system is serious. Your spine and belly will talk to you in ways you have never felt before. The crowd is mixed race (which I like) and they are there to party. When in line, the patrons seem stuck up, but they are actually fun once they get inside. I saw ATrak here, and it was a awesome show.

setup of the room is ok. lighting is really good and the sound is alright. stage setup is really good and lots of a good sightlines
bouncers coming in were ok. security on the inside were plain dicks. there was one deadbeat cop wannabe security guy who moved my party from our seats in the balcony so he could survey the floor. was rude the entire time. total buzzkill.
