Found this on my trip to SD. Great California burrito and chicken torta. Food is very fresh and not greasy. Will eat here again next time in town

I had a torta and my wife had the California burrito. The food was tasty and portions were good sized. Go for the green salsa it's tastier then the red. We will definitely come back.

Yet another place that will keep me from crossing the border for the taste I'm looking for. If you know Mexican deli's from TJ like "La Manzana" you know what I mean. So far I've had the Carne asada torta (sandwich) and it was the best I have tasted this side of the border.
Although I've been only once my wife has been a few times and she loves it. -

For the lack of food options in this area this is by far the healthiest and best one i have found.

I set my grudge aside and went back a couple of times recently. The jackass that got my order wrong twice was nowhere in sight on either visit, so I am putting Vega back into my rotation.
The service was friendly on both visits. On the first visit I ordered a breakfast burrito and enjoyed it very much.
On my most recent visit I carried out a shredded beef torta. I've been to some places where they don't recommend carry-out on certain items (Lefty's Pizza's menu notes "Our fries are best enjoyed in house."), and, holy moly, do I really get why. This sandwich does not travel well.
I don't think it would have been a great sandwich if eaten there, but the 2.5-mile drive home did it no favors. I didn't enjoy it at all. The meat became fused to the lower bun, the veggies turned the temperature of meat and, although toasted, the roll didn't have a hint of crunch remaining.
They do have menu items I thoroughly enjoy, so I'm adding back one star for that, and the absence of the idiot who bungled my orders.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Awesome food. Great catering and inexpensive. I had them cater my daughters bday and Kid Ventures in the Chula Vista area and I couldn't believe what I got for the price. We had them cater tortas, flour tortilla rolled tacos, corn tortilla rolled tacos, quesadillas, large fruit salad and green salad! The tortas were both chicken and carne asada tortas cut in half and they were still a big sandwich. Tasted good! Came with salsas, dressing and serving utensils. I would recommend Vega Cafe for any casual catering events.

1 star for the good portions
1 star for nice, clean establishment
1 star for good service
1 star for my horchata
took away one star for the location. kinda hidden.
good portions on the fruit salad. came with:
- strawberries
- bananas
- cantaloupe
- papaya
- pineapple
- pears
- apples
- cottage cheese
- raisins
- shredded coconut
- honey
also had the the tuna sandwich. Pretty big sandwich. came with:
- cucumbers
- tomato
- and tapatio (actually i added that)
Gf's sister got the spinach and mushroom omelet. came with:
- potatoes
- omelet covered with cheese
- hot sauce optional (if your like us then you gotta drench it with the hot stuff!!)
*on a side note: as i watched her eat, not only did I notice how gooey and cheesy the omelet was( strands of cheese still hung from her chin) I wondered where were the mushrooms! ( i mean it was spinach/mushrooms but the mushrooms were absent!)
This place is pretty cool. Serves sandwiches, tortas, breakfast items, kids items, coffee drinks, milk shakes, blended fruit drinks, tostilocos
(those bag of chips where they throw in hot sauce and other goodies) and they even got Carne Asada Fries!!
In a way this place is like Starbucks, Subway, Jamba Juice, and a taco shop all rolled into one!Listed in: Healthy Mode??

I love Vega! We stumbled upon them only by chance, because they ARE hidden, like other reviewers stated. It only took one visit to have me and my family hooked, though. Their Blast sandwich keeps me comin' back, and is extremely craveable. The Fruit Salad w/everything is another great treat, esepcially on those hot summer days when you want something refreshing and healthy to cool you down. Staff is polite and friendly, and on the right days when all their doors are open, the breeze that the building catches is heavenly.
The only down side to Vega, is that there isn't one located near us since we had to move! We still visit as often as possible when we're in the neighborhood, though. -

They were super pleasant. The food tasted very fresh. I really liked their varied menu.
It was clean and not too crowded at lunch time on a weekday. I work near there and will now be going here instead of where I used to go.
A unique menu, fresh ingredients, great hot sauce, clean and nice. How can you go wrong?
If it is your first time, try one of the tortas! -

Excellent fresh product. Huge portion sizes. I eat here often and enjoy it each time. Pollo asado burrito is excellent and the tortilla soup I can eat every day.
My only complaint is that the TVs are always on the spanish stations. But it is EastLake, and I am the minority there. -

Tried this place out last weekend because I had a coupon for a 99 cent smoothie. Ordered a breakfast croissant, which was delicious, and a bagel, no complaints. Husband liked his coffee, mango smoothie was of generous portion and tasted great. The only reason 1 star was subtracted is we had to speak slowly for the man to understand our order in english. We'll be back to try the breakfast burrito next.

I have been here a couple of times and every time has been good.
Last time I went there for a breakfast burrito and it was huge and very tasty. I took some carrots and jalapeño in vinegar and this are really good not sweat as other places.
I also order a large chocomilk (chocolate smoothie with banana and egg I think) and it was great. In fact they ask me to drink almost like half to refill it again with the left over while I waited for the burrito.
I work near this place now and I will be in my eating tour list. -

I have been here a number of times . Everything is great except the girl behind the counter. She seems rude and never cracks a smile. See for ypurself.... I think shes the owner or owners daughter. Smile a little it will help your customers to come back. That makes a huge difference if u havent figured it out. Fruit is fresh and the food is bomb . Too bad the chick behind counter is not friendly

Great selection on types of foods here.
Fresh, Tasty Fruit,. Vega has some pretty decent size portions for everything. The service has always been good, polite.
These guys have burritos, tortas (good), sandwiches, fruit, blended drinks, coffee,....etc. Not something you'd expect out of a smaller place. All of the food i have tried here has been pretty good so far, so I give them an A.
There is ample seating here, you will often find workers from the furniture stores here on lunch break. There is also outdoor seating. The outdoor seating has a grassy area with shade, so if you have a dog this looks like a cool place to go.
There tortilla soup is really good too. They keep some tapatio, cholula at the counter if you need it. And the place is kept really clean, which is a plus. During lunch hours they open the side doors and a good breeze comes through inside, so be prepared to place napkins somewhere so they don't fly away!
The only downside to this place I can find is the location. A LOT of people
I know around the immediate area don't even know about it. -

Chula Vista, CA
Just alright. Their tortas look good but are ridiculously overpowered by mayo and some thousand island-like concoction that leaves you feeling nauseated. I honestly could not keep going after a single bite. Their smoothies are a tad bland and no raspados! wop wop wop :( Nice location & free delivery for locals, but not enough to sell what they offer

Very good tortas. My favorite is their "Cubana" torta. It's just the right size and taste delicious. There's something in this place that everyone would enjoy. From sandwiches, to burritos, to salads. Five stars in my book. It's tucked away in Eastlake's design district, don't miss it.

This is a great little neighbor hood gem hidden in the East Lake Design center. The food is very fresh and made with care and love. The soups are homemade, the torta bread is fresh and yummy, the fruit salads are ridiculously good and the prices are great! Dodge the hordes of corporate restaurants that dominate East Lake landscape and do yourself a favor...eat at Vega.

We are big fans of Vega Caffe! As in we go there -a LOT.
This family owned restaurant is kind of located in a weird spot. Hidden off of Fenton in suburban Eastlake, surrounded by furniture superstores. But, whatever, who cares.
Our favorite item on the menu is definitely the Carne Asada Tortas. (combo with the ceasar) Mmmm. We tried our very first Carne Asada torta there almost a year and a half ago when we had recently moved to the area, and fell head over heels. (and have tried many others since). What I like about Vega is that the bread is crispy and fresh and really makes the sandwich for me.
If you aren't in the mood for carne asada torta, their ham and cheese torta is pretty good as well, as is their tortilla soup. oh and we ALWAYS get a fruit smoothie to go with on the side. Yummers.
Service is friendly and prompt. Space is clean. Great spot for lunch. They have inside as well as outside cafe style dining. I've never been disappointed with Vega Caffe. Even my pickiest toddler enjoys going there for the cheese quesadillas. (and she does not like all cheese quesadillas). Oh, and my east-coast German mother ALWAYS requests a stop at Vega when she visits. Apparently, she too has been smitten with their Carne Asada tortas. -

We drive by here at least a dozen times a week but have never tried it. Based on other Yelp reviews we decided to try it and we weren't disappointed. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside. It's clean and modern on the inside. The carne asada torta my wife had was really good and the machaca burrito I had was good as well. We shared a fruit salad and it was really good. We're definately going back.

Out of the way location, but they have great food and good hours. We love the tortas and the wonderful fruit salads. My daughter loves the grilled cheese and lasagna. Also the tortilla soup is excellent. Very big menu with lots of choices, very reasonable prices. Call in your order to go, or plenty of seating inside. It is our favorite place to go for a quick but tasty meal.
