This place is great, the "fish and chips" is one of the best things on the menu and the thing that people usually recommend but there's plenty of other yummy foods too.

The worst vegan restaurant I have ever been to. Hands down.
Husband and I went in September. Started with the tempeh chicken wings. I was shocked when what we were served was a basket of (I'm guessing they were steamed) tempeh strips, smothered in what had to have been store-bought ,low-grade BBQ sauce. No love at all. We should have left right then.
Next came the fish n' chips, and a BLT sandwich. The fish n' chips looked exactly like fish n' chips, I'll give them that. But my god, the taste! Husband ate the fries, which were pretty bland (we think they just changed the oil), but the "fish" was inedible. The texture was just so off-putting. It reminded me a lot of the chicken in McDonald's McChicken nuggets, only mushier.
If you thought it was impossible to screw up a BLT sandwich, think again. The bread was waaayyyyy too thick for a slice of tomato, tempeh bacon, and lettuce. Felt like I was just eating bread, that was a little on the stale side.
Almost 60 bucks later (had some fruit juices) we left feeling mighty ripped-off.
I still can't quite get over how bad this place was. What are they thinking?!?! -

Veg Out is a 2-star place that could be at least 4-stars if they put in more effort with their service. Though I toyed with a 3-star review, the service and the wait times made it unjustifiable.
Though I'm not a vegan, I do enjoy vegetarian food, so I couldn't think of a better place to bring my vegetarian sister, having heard such good things about it from friends.
My first impression of the place is that it looks a lot like someones home, vs. a restaurant, but I figured I could let that one slide. I'm also not a huge fan of the lack of uniform worn by staff - this might be a bit picky, but hey, how else can I identify you?
After about ten minutes of waiting, we finally got menus. After placing our order, it took about half an hour before we even got water - but even that was after our food arrived. This was especially annoying because of the coffee - I definitely prefer to drink my coffee before my lunch, but that wasn't possible here.
We all tried different things from the menu, which meant I got to try the "sunflower pate sandwich", the "jerk tempeh" and the "grilled "chicken" tempeh burger", as well as the sweet potato wedges and the soup of the day, a butternut squash. While the "chicken" burger, sweet potato wedges, and pate sandwich were delicious, the jerk tempeh could definitely not be described as jerk spices, and really was overall flavorless. Additionally, the soup was cold.
Even though it was 1pm and they were in full lunch mode, the quiche and the sweet potato corn bread both were not available, much to our dismay. You would think that the whole menu would be available in the middle of the lunch rush.
We then had to wait at least 10 minutes longer to get the bill, which was just about enough for me.
So, I understand that this is the only vegan restaurant in London, and that it is definitely better than nothing, but definitely do not come here if you're in a rush - or if you want prompt service - this just isn't the place for it.Listed in: My October 30

This place is fantastic! The menu is small but mighty - try the "fish" and chips, with house made tartar sauce! It's so delicious, you won't mind that it's not the "real thing". Another favourite is the tempeh wings from the appetizer menu. Tempeh is a fermented soy cake...which, granted, does not sound appetizing but oh my god...believe me, these wings are delicious! They have a revolving dessert menu, seems to be something different each time I go, all very good. Also, interesting juices made in-house as well, with ingredients like beet and carrot, they are tasty and pack a nutritional punch. Vegan, vegetarian or omnivore, you will love something on the menu.
The staff are super friendly. I have seen the owner come out and greet people on several occasions.
Such a great place! -

London finally opened up it's first fully vegan restaurant, at the former location of Jambalaya's on Richmond. The menu is small but offers good variety to even the carnivorous tofu-phobe. A wooden patio in the front also offers a great seat during the warm summer months.
There is a small selection of appetizers, including soup, flatbread and roasted garlic, and they run between $5-8. By the owner's recommendation, we ordered tempeh BBQ 'wings' (you can choose how spicy you'd like them - mild, medium or hot.). To my surprise, the chewy texture and the flavour were to my liking, despite my vendetta against all of tempeh-kind.
Entrees here will run you $12.50 a set and include the choice of a side dish - fresh cut fries, sweet potato wedges, avocado toast, cornbread, mixed green salad or raw celery root coleslaw.
The 'fish' and chips - beer-battered soy fillets - are their most popular (and unhealthiest) item. The batter was delish, but I found the soy a little chewier than I expected. It was still well-worth my money and I'd definitely come back for them again! The fries weren't so hot though and maybe a bit mushier than they should have been. I ordered the coleslaw but after stuffing myself silly, I decided to take it home. Unfortunately, the cooks went heavy-handed on the vineger and the smell permeated the car. I never did end up eating it.
Considering that few vegetarian restaurants have survived - the only other option is Zen Gardens on Dundas - I have great hopes that Veg Out will be around for years to come and that their menu will be expanding, along with its client base. Definitely worth checking out, even if you are a budget-strapped university student. -

Before my lunch visit to Veg Out with a friend, I perused the online menu to figure out what this omnivore would like to order. Turns out there was plenty! Everything sounded like a delightful exploration for the taste buds. Once I found out that the soup of the day was my beloved lentil, I had to order that and I paired it with their roasted potato spinach salad. The soup had an abundance of flavour with a nice spicy aftertaste. The roasted potatoes of the salad were to DIE FOR but I found the balsamic vinaigrette a bit strong for the remaining bites. It's also just not my favourite salad dressing. We stayed for dessert and tea and my vegan strawberry cheesecake was sublime and went perfectly with the loose leaf orange pekoe tea.
The restaurant is in a converted house and that means two things: the sitting area is small and sound carries. At a few points during our lunch, I found the noise level distracting so that could be a barrier if you're looking for a bit of intimacy. But my friend & I stayed for 2 hrs and not once did we feel like we had to rush out. It was a fabulous overall experience there and I want to go back and try so many other things. -

I am not from London but I stop at VegOut when I travel through the city on the 401. In the past, I have found the food to be okay - and the service to be awful - but today was different. Today the service was good but the food was awful!
Granted it has been a while since I was last there (6 months or so) but the fish and chips seemed different this time - and not in a good way. The batter was way too thick spongy which completely overpowered the 'fish' fillet inside. It was just like oily bread with some hint of fishy flavour.
We also had the chickpea burger which was so for lack of a better word gross we could only eat 4 bites. It was like mush on a bun - and unfortunately not well flavoured mush. The mayo seemed non-existent as did the caramelized onions.
The redeeming piece of the meal was the cheesecake we had for dessert. But it was not enough to make us ever want to go back. :( -

Me and a friend came here for dinner on a friday night and the place was filled. We only waited about 10mins for our table. While we were waiting, the owner of the restaurant came to us and told us that we looked very familiar, apparently we all went to the same high school, although she was a year ahead of us, she was in the same class as my friend (interesting fact!)
The restaurant is really small, there is about a dozen of so really small tables crammed into the front. The ambiance of the place is nice, felt like home!
The menu is really simple and not that many choices, but regardless, all the entrees looked really good. When we took our seat, the waitress came by to tell us that the special of the day was already sold out (we were there at like 7pm). We had pita chips and hummus while we decided on the entrees. My friend had the soba noodle bowl with yam wedges on the side, the noodle bowl looked delicious, but I thought that the portion size was a bit small, there were only 3 tiny pieces of bean curd in the bowl. I got the summer bean burger with yam wedges. At first they told me that they were out of buns, so they offered to substitute with either rice, bread or noodles, but by the time my dish came, they had apparently already restocked. The burger was amazing, it simply melted in you mouth! The patty was a bit soft though, and by the end of it was falling apart. Nevertheless, it was still delicious!
