So a few of my friends ended up here for the Valentines Day Massacre.
It featured 4 teams from around the world (Dallas, Vancouver, Paris and Edmonton) competing against each other) and it was one hell of a laugh!

I've been here a few times and I've yet to see a bad show. They love to get the audience involved. Men, women, children, they don't discriminate, they'll pull you up on stage for a good time.

The drinks are reasonably priced and there isn't a bad seat in the house, it's a night of good fun for the whole family.

If you're looking for a little more adult humour be sure to stick around for the late show...

We went to the Vancouver Theatresports League on Saturday for their "Off-White Christmas Special." Nothing was super special about it, except that their improv suggestions all had to be Christmas themed. The first half was kind of meh, but the second half of the show was an improv musical about Santa's investments and the red phone he used to call his broker at the New York Stock Exchange which was pretty damn funny.

We had seats way at the back, but the venue is small enough that we could still see and hear well. In fact, I don't think there's a bad sightline in this joint.

I didn't buy any drinks, but they seem to have it down to a science during intermission, with a line up that people actually stick to and space to move back into the theatre with your drink. No trying to fight your way away from the bar as people crowd in to buy their own drinks.

Most of the players were quite funny, I'd definitely come back again. Maybe if the show was slightly less expensive than the Christmas special.

Spent part of new years eve hear at the family show. My first experience with improv. Really enjoyed how the players took on the headlines with no notice as to what style would be used. They pulled some kids on stage and made their day.

I have been to a few shows, current space and old theater space. It is usually a pretty fun evening and a great group event. I have seen shows that have me lol-ing every minute, and painful teams that are close to boos and heckles. I recommend coming at least once! A fun night out :)

I have probably been to over a dozen VTSL shows over the last 5-6 years, and I would have to say that it's a pretty darn good bang for your buck. Due to the nature of improv comedy, the quality of the performance varies each time you go, but thankfully it tends to stay in the funny to very funny range depending on the audience suggestions and which improvisers are performing.

I remember when the VTSL used to perform at the New Revue Stage (I *think* that's what it was called, anyway). The new venue has a pretty similar setup, and I like that you can sit at tables that are right up against the stage. I highly recommend that you buy your tickets in advance, since the lineup can get long, and you can reserve your seats to ensure you get to sit at those coveted tables at the front.

A few years ago, the company I was working for hired the VTSL to perform at the company Christmas party, and they did a nice job of coming up with material tailored to our workplace. If you're a social committee dork like I am, it's good to know that options like this exist when you're planning office events.

If you go on Thursdays the tickets are half-price. Score!

    Hilarious!

I went with friends to the 10PM theatresports show a couple years ago, and we laughed our heads off! It was so freak'n funny. There was a drunk bride-to-be who was there with her bachelorette crew, so the actors did this hilarious act that revolved around her and the crazy things that were coming out of her mouth.

You only have to pay a little bit more to stay for the Improv Extreme show at 11:45PM, so we did. The rules for the 10PM show don't apply here, so the actors can cuss and be as raunchy as they want, but unfortunately this made the show less funny. Instead of being clever like before, there was just a lot of uninspiring profanity. And one of the actors got really mad at some people in the audience for saying something that we couldn't hear, so he yelled at them and it got kind of awkward.

So, I don't think I'll pay for the Extreme show again, but any of the other shows are a sure bet any time you wanna laugh so hard you gotta throw back your head and stomp your feet :D

This is a pretty hard review to write because I use to love this place. I use to go at least once every other month to take in what was easily the funniest show in Vancouver.

But, since moving to their new location, I have only been twice, and am not sure I will go again.

The old venue was extremely unique. There was not a bad seat in the house, and you could never hear the audience.  Sold out every night.

The experience just isn't the same at the new place. The acoustics are terrible, and every noise in the audience seems amplified. You hear "shhh" at least once every two minutes, and there's a person now whose job it seems is solely to keep people quiet.

As well, due to the tables that are pushed right up to the stage (the new venue is smaller and it's clear they're trying to pack in as many people as possible), you cannot see the performers if they ever lie down. It's extremely frustrating.

It's a sad turn of events, and while I hope that they are able to draw a new crowd that won't have the impulse to compare it to the "good old days", I'm not sure it will happen.

I recently went to go see these guys on Granville Island, and they were awesome! They had the whole audience in stitches the entire time. For about $15/person, you can go see live improv for about an hour -- it's totally worth it. Get there early, as the line-up is long, and you can't buy your ticket until an hour before the show.

They divide the actors into teams, and the audience picks the best team. If you give them some creative suggestions for the show, they might award you with prizes in the end. My friend got two free tickets for his idea.

And if you buy additional tickets during intermission, either for the next show that night or in advance for another day, they'll give you a discount. Either way, it's definitely something to check out with friends, family, or even a date. I would go again for sure, since each show is different.

"Bacheloretta" was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. The characterizations were priceless, and the insane things the guys did to prove their manhood had us crying with laughter.

The actors asked the audience to give the bachelors professions. The bachelors had to get into character immediately: chemist, scuba diver, President of McDonald's, cowboy and blacksmith. The (very cute) blacksmith decided he was lost in a time warp, and was here from medieval Europe. They all made terrible puns on their specialties.

The woman playing the bachelorette was perfect. She was that wonderful female combination of sweetness and sheer ruthlessness in testing her suitors. She smiled and said nice things, then pole axed the losers. Especially enjoyable was that though the audience favorite was clearly the blacksmith, she told him he'd, "Be better off with a girl from the Dark Ages."

The man-on-clumsy-man ballet was good, too.

We paid the extra $5 for the second show: competitive extreme theatre sports. Meh. The winning team was pretty good, but unfortunately we had to sit through the team destined to lose. They'd asked for a made-up Christmas carol title, and an audience member called out, "Santa's Saggy Ass."

Somehow, one actor turned this into a loooooong, tired take on Santa being fat. Here was the wickedly funny part: The actor was frighteningly thin. But in two scenes, he cast himself as a personal trainer, ordering Santa to lose weight. Of course, slagging fat people has no humour in it, and who wants a skinny Santa? But if you have a very dark sense of humour, it was screamingly funny to watch a male Olive Oyl try to be a fitness model. He was demonstrating "fitness moves," and I was scared his wrists or back would break. I guess if you've ever been an anorexic or had a loved one who is (anorexics frantically over-exercise and think everyone is "fat"), it might not be funny. As I said, very dark humour.

The deciding moment came, and the first team were the clear winners.

But I wouldn't stay for the second show again.
