Please be aware that the only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because they will have to earn that last star.
But let me be clear...the difference in service between Vancity and RBC is 180. I have been banking with RBC for over 25years...and you'd think that they would throw me a few bones after that level of commitment. But like a worthless GF, I took the abuse and kept coming back for more.
But it was time to figure out my car loan options and I had heard that credit unions often offered better rates. I made an appointment at this Vancity and ended up in an 1.5h meeting going over all the options, what rates they could give me depending on what I was prepared to transfer or not. There was NO pressure. They just wanted a chance. Nathan was thorough, friendly, and willing to go the extra mile.
THe next day I had my appt at RBC. They booked me in at my home branch out east even though I had called my local branch. Not a good start. Then, the rep wasn't willing to go through any scenarios without my credit check (as Nathan did). But she did tell me the best case scenario was a solid 1% above Vancity's WORST offer to me!!! WHOA!
They made it easy.
So RBC, how does my arse look as I walk out of your life!?!? -

A lover of all things local, it only makes sense that I would put my money where my mouth is (pun entirely intended) and let a credit union handle most of my financial matters. But Vancity CU isn't just any ol' credit union, oh no. No friends, Vancity is a local-loving, socially responsible cooperative with a conscious.
Committed to contributing to the social, economic *and* environmental well-being of the greater-Vancouver community, Vancity supports projects that are dedicated to changing lives on a local level (hulllooo, microloans!). Sure, the fees can sometimes be a bit outrageous, and sure the whole hyperwallet thing is REALLY annoying, but I feel good about banking here. And besides, everyone is just so darn nice! Like, Truman-show kinda nice.
This branch is no exception. Honest, fast, knowledgeable and suuuper friendly, it feels like a true neighbourhood institution. Why go anywhere else?
