Review from Jeff G.
I used to really enjoy Value Village. Visiting a Value Village store was like exploring a huge closet full of vintage toys, games, music, and books. It brought back memories of Saturday morning cartoons (and the commercials), '80s sitcoms, and AM radio.
Now it's a place where people dump their crap. VV went from being a treasure trove of pop culture to a garbage dump. Obviously that's not the fault of the store, it's just the quality (or lack thereof) of the donations lately.
The Mayfield Common location has a pretty anemic stock. They have a respectable selection of books but it's mostly yesterday's best-sellers. I have found a few gems there but mostly it's as if John Grisham and Danielle Steele got together and had a garage sale.
I'm a big fan of vinyl so I always visit their record section. I can smell that musty old basement smell as I approach the albums. They have an assload of Guy Lombardo, marching band type stuff and some Wayne Newton. The records were obviously donated by the adult children of seniors who recently passed away or went to the home.
Next section - Toys & Games. This was particularly painful. Pieces missing from puzzles and boardgames that were also missing components.
I am a man and naturally I hate shopping for clothes so I avoided the clothing section. No comments there.
I haven't been to the other locations in the city but I hope they are better than the Mayfield store.
