    Yum Yum in my Tum.

Had lunch here with my coworkers, and the Pizza was delicious. You wouldn't think it be such a fun quick and cheap bite by it's appearance, however it did the trick. We all left very content and had each eaten 3 slices (we totally over did it by eating a third slice) since if you order an extra large, two slices will suffice.

Also my Boss said that he usually dines there for Breakfast and loves it, so next time I'll try to swing some BF action at Valencia Pizza. Who would of thought, good breakfast at a pizza joint!

All restaurants start at five stars.  Some stay there, some drop, but some plummet.  This is the latter.

Five stars - Im in the Mission.  Yay!  Great location.  Cheap eats.  Cant beat that right?

Four stars - upon entering this weird time warp with the atmosphere of central california diner and italian food with asian cooks... interesting... but then a divey atmosphere has never scared away a foodie...  or has it?  Waitress was nice but a little overwhelmed and seemed to have problems catching up to the patron.

Three stars - 12 dollar bottle of wine?  WOOT ... wait... is this the $5 wine from Safeway?  Indeedy it is!  Slight boo...  Ordered food without a hitch... appetizers ("garlic bread" ... please notice the "" )come out that look like they were bread from costco, swathed with butter and heated up.

Two stars - The food comes out.  I order the asparagus with feteccuini.  This really looks like it came from a crappy Italian place.  I usually cant complain much but this is below par for the Mission district.  How can such a good location with so much awesome italian food come to this?

Lowdown - Cheap place to eat but dont expect much for Italian food.  You ARE in the Mission, theres bound to be better places out there.  Hey, at least you get some interesting people watching.

    The Scoop

I went here with a group of friends (8-9) during my short stint in SF over spring break and had a great experience.  Even though they have very limited seating, they happily accommodated our group.  What stood out the most to me was the 'homemade' feel of their food and ambience.  The place was lively.  It certainly reminded me of a small cafe I visited in Modena, Italy.  The food portions looked massive all around our table and everyone seemed very content with their pizzas/pastas.  My personal (vegan) pizza was also very good.  The addition of inexpensive beers/wines make this place a winner.  This part of Valencia is a sweet piece of SF.  So if you're looking to explore a bit, check out the shops and grab a bite at this place!

Now a Yelper's 2,000th review is something you can't let slip into oblivion quite so quickly, can you? I had every intention of bestowing my self-important milestone to flour+water since I went there for the very first time on Super Bowl Sunday (no line, right?...wrong). It was a wonderful meal Jamie W. and I had there, but with 1,060 reviews and counting, it certainly doesn't need me to help publicize it, especially since everybody I know has already been there. I guess that's why I landed on Valencia Pizza & Pasta for my 2,000th. It's the type of small, under-the-radar operation that could use some good Yelp word-of-mouth to keep it afloat for another 17 years.

It's not a cool enough place for Anthony Bourdain nor a greasy enough dive for Guy Fieri nor mondo enough in portion for Adam Richman. It's a place ridiculed by hipsters too impatient to wait an hour and a half for a table at the nearby "Hot on Yelp" place on Valencia. One fashion-forward slacker in the next booth could not conceal her contempt whining on her cell about being stuck in a "dive". Not us. We were happy to find a place whose owner appreciated our business, and we were rewarded with comfort food that went well beyond our expectations. Jamie started with the $3.25 Fresh Mixed Green Salad, which was as billed and served with a nice balsamic vinaigrette dressing (see photo).

He went balls-to-the-wall and ordered a Large 16" Valencia Pizza ($15.95), a thin-crust extravaganza with pepperoni, sausage, bell peppers, mushrooms and onions, all of it resting on melted mozzarella (see photo). It was actually one of the better bargain-price pizzas we've had in the city - and it turned out there was plenty for us to take home with us. I was not as much in a pizza mood and went with one of their whiteboard specials, the $14.95 Lamb Shank, which actually turned out to be two huge shanks with the braised meat falling off the bone so easily into a pool of gravy filled with onions and mushrooms. Delicious and hearty and way better than what I attempted in my pressure cooker the week before.

It came with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli and cauliflower (see photo). As if that wasn't enough, I first started with a $3.75 cup of Clam Chowder that was milky-brothy with plenty of potato chunks (see photo). And did I mention the basket of buttery sliced rolls (see photo)? I couldn't finish my dinner either, so I was happy to take a shank home, so I could have it for lunch the day after. Love this place because not only is the food filling and tasty but it has absolutely zero hipster appeal. They wouldn't be caught dead here, but Jamie W. and I don't mind. In fact, the utter lack of a coolness factor is exactly why I'm celebrating this place as my 2,000th review. Way to go, Valencia Pizza & Pasta.

FOOD - 5 stars...nothing fancy but awfully good and such large portions
AMBIANCE - 4 stars...the place matches the food, nothing fancy...but grab a booth if you can
    SERVICE - 4.5 stars...friendly and attentive
TOTAL - 5 stars...you can afford not to be hip for one meal, can't you?

    4 stars? Why?!
My boyfriend and I went there couple of days ago for late breakfast. We ordered steamed clams (clams with really salty and watery broth with tiny amount of margarine ), salmon and cat fish breakfast; which both tasted old, plus the salmon was hairy. The catfish tasted like it was seasoned with chicken or shrimp base..
Also the Price was not as low as people were bragging about. But wasn't that pricey either.
Portion was not bad, I think people like it because of the location and the portion of the food. Not the taste or the quality. When we found hair on the salmon that my boyfriend had ordered I lost all my appetite, I basically didn't look at the food after, because I thought I was going to vomit. So, we called the waitress and she saw the hair and took off 75 cent from our bill... THAT'S IT! Just took 75 cent off ! Im speechless!

You know how they say 'hindsight is 20/20' ? Well looking back, we should have known better.

Whilst we're on the subject of things that "they" say, I'd also like to point out that they say that one's sense of smell is of the highest importance, the most critical sense we possess.

We walked in with empty stomachs, desperately craving a slice of pizza.  Having walked down the length of Valencia intent on finding a pizza spot with a look of promise, we finally settled and stopped in to Valencia Pizza and Pasta.

A small, tight spot with about 10 out of 10 tables being serviced by what looked like one server on busy friday night.  Walking in with our stomachs grumbling, we smelled..nothing. And that should have been the hint.  No bad smells and certainly no good smells, despite our hunger.

While waiting we ordered a Clam chowder with three spoons to share : Not much taste to it. Needed salt. And perhaps more clams? It was pretty bland so after a spoonful or two, I let the other girls finish.

One of the friends I was with was craving some pasta and so she ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo. Seemed simple enough..but when it came out it seemed to get cold really quickly and the fettucini sauce itself solidified even quicker making the pasta difficult to...uhm...slurp?

We ordered the large Valencia Special as our main meal to share- the equivalent of a combination pizza: we waited a good 30 minutes for it..and the result? SOGGY PIZZA. literally. At first we thought it was oil but quickly realized that it actually looked like it might have been water (??) The pizza toppings slipped and slided off the bread underneath when attempting to pull a piece away.

Unfortunately, as much as we wanted this spot to work out, we will not be returning.  Even our hungry stomachs were not enough to bias some sort of satisfaction and our heap of leftovers was wrapped up and given to homeless people along Valencia.

Without a doubt, my absolute favorite pizza place. Now, I have only gotten the pizza so I cannot vouch for anything else. Every time I go, while many things look appetizing, the pizza just ends up calling my name in the end.

My favorite pizza is the vegetable pesto pizza, though I usually just pay $1.00 extra to get half pesto and try something new for the other half. The ingredients are so fresh and tasty. The quality and craftsmanship is superb. Needless to say, I love their pizzas.

Valencia Pizza & Pasta is a small restaurant with a comfortable atmosphere. Nothing too fancy. The staff is very friendly. The wine is really cheap (only $2.95 per glass!!) and usually a Mexican guitarist will come in and sing for tips.

I highly recommend this place. It is very affordable and has a wonderful ambiance. If you make it out here, I hope you enjoy your meal!

This review is only for their Cheesesteak Sandwich. We were in a rush and needed sandwiches to go. We ordered one of the sandwich deals - a sandwich (choose from BLT, Chicken Parm, Catfish, Crabcake, Cheesesteak, etc) + side of potatoes, side salad, can of soft drink for $6.95.

    Value = A+
    Portion = A+
Taste = C- (this is b/c the cheesesteak was NOT a cheesesteak sandwich. it came with grilled green peppers and onions BUT the meat was in slabs. 4 slabs thick. and not much cheese. i lived in philly and the meat is supposed to be thinly sliced). The potatoes were good though.
Speed = C- (talk about slow. we walked away to an open house and came back and the sandwiches still weren't ready)
Friendliness = A. (good friendly folk)

For value, you can't beat this place. HUGE, and I do mean HUGE portions; especially on the pork chops.
    Quality? Mediocre.
But...they are not TRYING to be of high quality.
They are trying to get a decent plate of hot food out to you in a quick and reasonably priced manner.
The place is always full and word is getting around that you got a lot for your money.
We had the meatball sandwich and chicken parmesan plate. Chicken was dry and rubbery and meatballs were dry. This was somewhat "fixed"  by the copious amounts of sauce on the plate, but...in general...I don't like dry meat.
However, for the prices and the amount of daily offerings and specials from this small kitchen, what does one expect.?
Three stars and a full belly....
    and that's what you'll get.

CHEAPEST BEST LUNCH IN THE MISSION, HANDS DOWN!

HUGE sandwich, soup or salad, a drink - $6.95

Let me elaborate: homemade minestrone or chowder, sandwiches also come with real potato wedges (they're not fries) and the choices are unreal. Here's an idea, and yes, I've had all these so I can't pick a fave but I will give each of them a 7 star.
    Homemade meatball sandwich
Chicken breast with eggplant and pesto
    Chicken Parmesan
Bacon, Chicken breast, avocado, pesto on request
    Catfish, lightly breaded
    Tofu/eggplant/pesto -oh, correction, that one's only $5.25.

The couple that owns this place are the nicest, sweetest, most warm family you will want to support.  I love them and I don't use that word too loosely.

If you are really hungry come here. They give you complimentary garlic bread right away.  And soup comes with the pizza too! It's totally reasonably priced -- $17 including tip filled 2 people up, plus I had SIX slices of 3-topping pizza to bring home with me.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the taste is not amazing (like Applewood Pizza in Menlo Park).

Pizza, pasta, or ginormous calzone?! My friends and I stumbled into Valencia Pizza & Pasta and my first impression here was not a good one. They have their "Dish of the Day" or specials posted on a pieces of paper that are slapped onto a wall near the door. The "feel" is really casual and it looked more like a hole in the wall or small-scale diner than restaurant.

I ordered the seafood pasta with the white wine sauce and my boyfriend ordered a huge calzone. Entrees come with a salad or soup, but both are pretty basic appetizers - nothing special. The plates are MASSIVE. The calzone literally looked like a pizza folded up together and my pasta plate took up a fourth of the table. Okay, a little exaggeration there but it really was huge! If you're craving for some home-style Italian cooking and want to eat at a place to fill you up AND come up with "dank" leftovers, Valencia Pizza & Pasta is a must-try.

Valencia pizza and pasta is a great place. I love eating there and could eat there maybe once a week. In fact I would except my girlfriend yelled at me for always taking her there and not anywhere else, oooops. Ok so there wings are very good, nice and spicy. The pizzas are fantastic. Shrimp pasta with cream sauce, clam pasta, lasagna are all great. Plus their starter salad is awesome and they even surprise you with garlic bread instead of regular bread. Basically If I were you I would try anything there. Its all fantastic.

p.s. my girlfriend will still be going there several more times whether she likes it or not. . . .and it's real cheap!

My first impression here was that the prices aren't quite as cheap as people claimed here.  Then I got my "personal" pizza, and realized how much they give you for the money.  Leftovers for two nights.

We went in here because of the dairy-free pizza crust.  Blondie, Allergy Boy and I all ordered our own pies, and were all quite satisfied.  Blondie got her current favorite, a pesto pizza, I got chicken, and A.B. got a tomato pie.  Mine was loaded, with a lot more onion than I was expecting, but that's ok.  When his first came out, there were obvious bits of cheese visible, and I wasn't thrilled.  I wasn't sure they understood.  The waitress then explained that the sauce container in the kitchen had bits of cheese in it, but she went ahead and opened a fresh container of sauce and made him a whole new one.  I was pleased with that service.

Drinks served in cans, so no free refills like we're all used to.  The journey to the bathroom takes you through the kitchen, which was entertaining as they were gutting a huge fish at the time.  The wall menu was chuck full of specials, so the variety here looks good.

    Wonderful!

They do so much more than pizza and pasta! I saw another table get what looked like a pot roast with veggies and mashed potatoes, and it looked and smelled great.

Anyway, we got the amigo pizza, and it was great. Good crust, lots of cheese, and premium toppings. If i lived closed to this place, this would become my regular spot... for all my meals!

I haven't been to Valencia P&P for quite some time, but if there's something you can guarantee, it's that this café-style restaurant always serves big portions for reasonable (read: cheap) prices. It is virtually impossible to finish the huge meals, so you are invariably getting dinner, which also serves as tomorrow's lunch.

From previous visits with my fiancé, I knew that one of us had to get the breaded pork chops, and for our second dish we went with the short ribs. Ohmygoodness soooooooooooo yummy! The pork chops were as delicious as I remembered, and the short ribs (which I have never had without the bones) were soft and succulent.

Along with your meal you get a basket of complimentary garlic bread, and either soup or salad. The wine is good, and at $2.95 a glass, or $12 a bottle, it's a total steal.

Valencia P&P is small and has a relaxed ambience - nothing fancy.  So, as long as you go there without any expectations for a high-end ambience and dining experience, and enjoy it for what it is (yummy food, big portions and cheap prices) you can't go wrong!

Suffice to say, we left with our tummies full....

I love this place for breakfast on Saturday or Sunday.  Their prices are the best in town for what you get.  Their Greek Omelette is delicious and they always give you a piece of fruit.  for 6.95 I got an english muffin, an orange, a huge omelette and hash browns.  What a bargain!  Their pork chops are my other breakfast favorite.  This isn't the place to go for plush ambience, but you can't really eat the ambience, so I don't care.  The service is good and they have tons of items to choose from.

A-OK... I guess...I have had better and I have had worse. This is a pretty standard new york style pizza, although it isn't very greasy.

We ordered a medium half pepperoni, half mushroom pizza for a total of $14. This pizza was not bursting with any sort of wow factor, come to think of it, all this pizza has given me is heartburn and a dent in my wallet.

The restaurant it's self was really busy and they don't have much seating, so I suggest doing take out if you do eat here. I doubt I will return to this pizza place, there has got to be a better parlor somewhere near by...

This is a great neighborhood Italian restaurant!

Their pizzas and calzones are deceptively good - the crust is very flavorful, which is rare for San Francisco!  I especially recommend their Chicken Special pizza, which has rosemary and carmelized onions....mmmmm!!!  While the menu is rather lengthy, I'd definitely recommend sticking to the basics of an Italian restaurant.  And don't expect fancy food or ingredients here, Valencia Pizza & Pasta ain't that kind of joint!  They have a limited choice of bottled beers and a few wines, nothing special...but you didn't come here for that, you came for a pizza and a beer, right?!

The wait staff and owners are very friendly.  Service is efficient and quick, and when the bill comes, you'll gasp at how inexpensive your super-filling meal was!!  Since the diningroom is tiny, it's often crowded and you might have to wait 10-15 min for a table...longer if there are more than 4 people in your party.  Honestly, this isn't a great place to bring more than 4 people, since they can maybe seat a max of 25-30 people at any given time?

Also, they generally close on the early-side, somewhere around 9:30 pm, so this won't be the place you hit after an evening of bar-hopping in the Mission.

I love that I can get a delicious, reasonably-priced, consistent, filling, Italian meal here and avoid the noisy, over-priced hipster havens that abound in this neighborhood!!

Seriously, this place is awesome. I had my birthday dinner at VP&P last night and it was delicious, affordable and fun! Not 5 stars because service is not this joint's specialty. There were a few annoying missteps; like serving appetizers without individual plates, guests having to ask for drinks and drink refills, one of my girls had to ask the server to get me a fork for my birthday cake, which the server brought out. She looked annoyed. It was funny. But, they let my friend set up balloons at the table hours before our reservation.

11 people ate for $160 before tip, and there was food left over. Everyone enjoyed everything, but especially the mushroom ravioli. Ah, they're awesome. Last night I tried the short ribs, which were also a hit, and the seafood linguini with clams and shrimp. Others seemed to like the linguini, but it wasn't my favorite. Another plate of ravioli would have been better! We did it all family style.

I think this place is perfect for a group. The value is good and the food is delicious. Just don't expect too much in the way of service.

It was ok...I guess. Nothing to rave about. It's tiny so it take a while to be seated. The portions were large, but nothing memorable.

If your in the neighborhood and looking to stuff your face and portion matters, this is the place for you. Is that to say I wouldn't come back? No, because I might be in the neighborhood looking to stuff my face with lots of food.

Came here for lunch a few weeks ago. My mom and I were starving as we entered this little restaurant. Ordered a side salad and their combo pizza. As we waited, we watched other customers get their meals (can you tell we were hungry?) and boy were they large honkin' portions! One customer even asked the server to take his plate back and get rid of some of his mashed potatoes. It was just too much! What a problem to have, right? :)
We devoured our salad and pizza. The pizza was delicious! Not super heavy, but with a thinner crust and fresh veggies. A winner in my book and you can't beat the price!

How did I go so long without knowing about VPP's amazing spicy wings? Sooooo good with a couple of cold Peroni's, a basket of garlic bread and a side of ranch. I love you VPP xoxxo

Overall I would say this place was only pretty good.
The restaurant itself was pretty small and it filled up pretty quickly.

They had a lot of meat items on the menu (which I think might be their specialty), but also had some vegetarian friendly options (but no vegan options).  The salad was not very good.  The server was not very friendly, I think maybe she was having a bad day... or she doesn't like 20-somethings. The pizza was it's saving grace. We got the pesto pizza, and they didn't skimp on any of the ingredients. Although we enjoyed ourselves, we'll probably try a different place next time we're in the neighborhood.

Holy moly this place has huge portions. My friends and I shared a medium pesto eggplant pizza for $15 and it came with salad and garlic bread. The pizza itself was huge, leaving us leftovers. The quality isn't amazing, but if you are hungry and low on cash, this is a great find!

Love this place! Great food, HUGE portions, $2 beers (anchor, red tail, etc), and a nice staff!
I have come here time and again for special nights (my Birthday) to regular everyday dining.
While it appears like a hole in the wall cafe, every person I have ever taken here felt like it lived up to my rave reviews!

This review is geared towards more the service than the food.

Came in last night with a friend who had a craving for pasta. We were seated pretty quickly, and ordered immediately. 30 mins in, our entree hadn't arrived. The table that were seated just 5 mins before us had already received their entrees, and were getting ready to leave with their leftovers. I asked the owner if our entrees were coming since we had ordered 30 mins earlier-she went back to check, but never came back with an update. 10-15 minutes later, the food had arrived. Seems it shouldn't take 45 mins for 2 bowls of pasta to arrive. Disappointed with the food service, and now I doubt any returns even though food is great here.

This place is seriously better than any chain Italian restaurant. It's like Olive Garden but 100x better without the ambiance. But seriously who needs the decorations when there's good food.

The prices are very reasonable and the quality of the food is excellent. It's this little mom and pop shop that has a really nice homey feel to it. The service is great (though the food took a while to come out but we weren't in a rush) and tasted delicious.

I had the Mushroom Ravioli with Pesto Sauce. Amazing. That's all I can say. Good portions and it was only $10. The short ribs were good as well as the lamb shank (~$15). Where are you gonna find lamb shank for $15??

What's for dinner? I dont know. What do you want? Um, something good. Ok, so where? Isn't that always the tough question?

Kicking off a big birthday weekend for my friend Rosy, I asked her where she wanted to go. Craving Pesto Pasta with Prawns, she suggested Valencia Pizza and Pasta. I have to say I was surprised, because she could have said anywhere.

The first thing I noticed was all of the specials and the prices. Most dinners are under $10.00. We opted for sharing a salad, but all entrees come with a side salad. Bonus!

I ordered a small Amigo Pizza, with spicy sausage and jalapenos. She went with the Pesto Pasta with Prawns. The total came to $24.00 with tax! Amazing and HUGE portions - I had enough leftovers for another 2 meals, that's crazy cheap.

Hey everyone likes to save some cash when they can and if the food is good on top of that, why not give it a try?

Okay, they get 4 stars solely because decent bottled beers sell for 2 bucks. I know, right? I can get a Heineken or a Peroni or whatever and it's 2 dollars. That's 2 dollars, people! These are the happy hour prices I pay at shitty bars, stuffed with shitty people, staffed with shitty bartenders!  Little did I know, VP&P offers cold, delicious beers for two bucks AT ALL TIMES. Like, what the fuck have I been doing with my life? Apparently wasting it away by not spending my time getting drunk for cheap AND eating delicious (well, pretty good) bowls of ravioli and lasagna.  I feel like I've been lied to. I feel like there must be a greater reason for my only recent patronage of VP&P than me just being a lazy fuck who wanders by all time but never actually went in.

Dude, I was so full after eating here. Granted, the food's not crazy good but it gets the job done. Plus, they give you a basket of garlic bread and  my salad was made with mixed greens rather than a stack of iceberg. That's pretty rad. I love that they load your plate with perfectly steamed broccoli and carrots, in addition to a gigantic helping of pasta. The red sauce is whatever, but, like, a good whatever as opposed to a bad whatever. So that's sweet.

And did I mention that they have beers for 2 (two) dollars?! This is a mind fuck, man. I think I'm gonna go right now. In my bathrobe. With unbrushed teeth.  Perfect way to spend a Sunday, right?

It's a good thing SF isn't a college town, because this place would get overrun.  As it is, even on a Tuesday night it's hard to wrest a table from all the off-duty hipsters who come here when they need food, lots of it, easy on the wallet, and nevermind about the skinnyjeans.  For me personally the atmosphere is an almost eerie throwback to cheaper days, so much that my SF snobbery is telling me (perhaps unfairly) to dock a star.

I don't know how they churn out such a huge variety of dishes (advertised in cut-out paper strewn over the walls--now that's classy) from the tiny kitchen, but I played it safe and went with a calzone.  The Mrs and I ordered a 14" which is about $12 and looks like it could feed a horse (I don't even want to know what the 18" looks like).  We were able to get through half of it before we had to call for a box.  But we didn't stop for lack of deliciousness either.

Now if they can really dish up an equally good and ridiculously sized breakfast, I'll have no choice but to make it 5 stars.

Every dish comes with broccoli trees and carrot spears so you can feel like you're eating healthy when you're stuffing yourself with lobster ravioli in cream sauce made from butter with butter, and sticking your face in your friend's chicken parm,  and seafood pasta.  You are imagining yourself rowing through a sea of buttter on a garlic bread raft, using carrot sticks as oars, and de-rafting to climb up into your little broccoli tree house.  And you're too  drunk to understand how much pasta you're downing while you're staring at those veggies... being "healthy".

As you embark on your  second basket of garlic bread,  you start thinking why do the red pepper flakes have absolutely no spice whatsoever? are these made from red bell peppers?  Oh my god, no way, how ingenious, I think this place has red bell pepper flakes.  I need to take the top off this thing and investigate what the deal is. hmmm.   I wonder if these flakes will reconstitute into little red bell peppers if I pour them on the cream sauce and wait a few minutes.  Nothing.  and still no heat sticking to my food. I think I'll have some more of this lovely tres pinos from san luis obispo they have here for $12 a bottle, not a bad deal.  Not a bad monday night overall...

Everything I said in my previous review is true.

The food is just kinda eh.

But I realized that I really like the fact that its in my neighborhood and fills a great niche, in that the Mission has tons of nice fancy restaurants, and tons of great hole-in-the-wall take out places, but no real cheap sit-down restaurants. It's just nice enough that it's not going to be the type of place where bums off the street congregate with pigeons (like the dreadful Hong Kong Express Cafe), but non-organic enough to scare away the snobs.
