Have you tasted their lemon grass sub? Being a vegetarian, love their lemon-grass tofu sub. Remember to grill the veggie and ask to add a dash of hot sauce (if you like a kick).
Out of the world the taste is. My collegues do say they love their meat subs as well.
If you want to grab a quick bite (preferably to-go) and you are around down-town and jasper, you got to pay them a visit. They are short on space if you plan to eat there, but that should not keep you from going to this place. If you need a place to eat..take their sub to-go and take it to city-center mall or scotia-place food court right across.
Haa...they don't accept credit.cards ...yet!!
I normally do not give 5 stars to anyone - this place comes close to that!! -

I had already had lunch when I stopped by this place, so admittedly I haven't tried their food. A friend had told me I had to try Vietnamese iced coffee though, so I popped in and saw they serve it! At something like $4.00 I was hoping it would be excellent.
First, it took what seemed like a long time to make. Maybe that's how it has to be though, so I looked past that. However, when it finally came it was "gritty" - lots of coffee grounds were in it, I assume. It didn't taste especially good either, and the majority of the cup was ice, leaving me wishing I had spent my $4.00 elsewhere.
I'm told that I shouldn't let this color my opinion of Vietnamese iced coffee, but it really wasn't very good here. Also, a guy came in while I was there and ordered two different drinks; one they were out of, and the other they don't actually serve even though it is on the menu. It was curious.
I have heard from friends that their food is quite good, so I'm still hoping to go back and try that, but so far I'm not too positive on this place! -

This was my first time trying a bahn mi - and I definitely look forward to having another (and another).
I got a lemongrass chicken and a sate beef - both were great (but the beef was better).
Everything was so fresh; the meat was tender and juicy and when combined with the sweet/spicy sauce and the fresh veg it made for a terrific lunch.
My only complaint was the long, whole cilantro stems lining my sandwich rather than cut into pieces, or just the leaves.
The sandwich itself, is a good size, big enough to halve for lunch, or can make a nice sized dinner. -

So Fresh, So nom nom.
After eating at V's Cuisine for years now, I found out they actually have an affiliate (ran by one of the family member's of V's cuisine) here downtown.
Catering to the pick and go crowd, they specialize in, yes you've guessed it, sandwiches. More specifically Vietnamese subs.
With ample amounts of variety of subs to choose from, you can never go wrong with what you choose. Here are the differences between a typical Chinatown sub and V's subs:
-the meat actually tastes fresh; it hasn't been just simply sitting in a warmer waiting for you to order it
-the carrots (one of the main defining garnishes of an authentic Vietnamese sub), parsley, and carrots taste crisp and fresh. It's as if they grabbed a bunch of nice cold carrots in water and shredded them.
-the paté was very flavorful. It did not taste like amateur paté which is just plain fat.
-presentation. each slice of my cold cut was neatly folded into the sub itself.
-most importantly, the bread did not cut the insides of my mouth. The problem with Vietnamese places is to get the fluffy white bread, the crust of the baguette is often too crumbly and sharp. Not the case with V's.
I had the cold-cut and it was on a different playing field as the rest. It tasted fresh and not smothered in butter and maynaise. It's like comparing a Mont Blanc pen to a Bic pen.
I will most likely return to try their more exotic sandwiches. And I'm sure YOU will be too. -

I've been there 3 times now and it's grown on me. Took the hubby yesterday and he was super impressed. I prefer mine non-toasted as I find the toasted version slices up the roof of my mouth. They give Subway a run for their money!!

I had my very first experience with Vietnamese subs yesterday, even though I worked across the street from the place since before they opened! My friend, who also works across the street from V, goes there all the time, so we finally made it down together.
First of all, love the name. I just think it's hilarious and cute for some reason. V Sandwiches!!!
There are quite a few types of sandwiches to choose from, at least eight for sure. I went with the sate chicken sub ($6.95). I told the girl at the counter I was having trouble deciding what to get as I'd never had a v-sub before, so she helped me out a bit, which was nice, especially since they were crazy busy! I didn't know what to expect taste-wise, but I quite enjoyed it. I can be weird about chicken sometimes, but this was a nice flavour and didn't have that gross texture like it's been re-heated. The veggies were fresh and the sauce was nice and different (for my taste buds). The sate chicken is a little bit spicy, but honestly not as spicy as I expected, so most people could probably eat it and enjoy it. I read Andrew H.'s review, and I think he must have been lucky! One of my biggest food pet peeves is hard bread that scrapes my mouth, and while this bread was so delicious and kind of sweet, it was too hard and definitely scraped my mouth up.
Like I said, this place gets hugely busy during lunch time. It is very small inside and most people order and take away. Even though it was busy, we ordered and got our food within 10-15 minutes, which is very reasonable. I don't work across the street anymore, but I would go back to try a different type of sub. Great taste and great value. Did I mention these subs are 9"!?Listed in: My downtown

As proof that the banh mi (Vietnamese subs) craze has gone mainstream, V Sandwiches has opened up in ritzy Rice Howard Way. It's a small sandwich shop, with the main ordering counter and a few stools. Definitely it is designed as a take-out place - there isn't even a washroom.
The sandwiches are slightly upscale versions of what you can find in banh mi shops in Chinatown - various arrays of cold cuts, and lemongrass tofu as a vegetarian option. There are also specialty sandwiches that take banh mi to another level - I had a lemongrass chicken sub, and it was packed with pieces of chicken, mayo, carrots, cilantro, cucumber, and a little bit of onion. The warm baguette was perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Slightly more Western-tasting than other Vietnamese subs I have had, but it was good and I would have it again.
Other menu choices include salad rolls, deli sandwiches, and wraps, albeit with an Asain twist (I have never seen satay beef wraps before). To drink, there is pop and iced Vietnamese coffee.
Prices are slightly higher than in Chinatown, but certainly reasonable. My sub was around $7. V Sandwiches is a great choice if you're downtown and on the go, or if you want a gentle introduction into the world of banh mi. -

Ironically, it's around the corner from a certain, famous, franchised sub shop, but after tasting one of V's fabulous Bahn Mi I can never go back to aforementioned shop. I dove into a chicken satay sub that was brimming with shredded pickled carrots, cilantro, and abundant pieces of satay chicken. The baguette was crusty on the outside, fluffy on the inside, just like it should be. Each bite was a rave of flavour. The Vietnamese iced coffee is excellent too, perfect for a hot day, for a cold day, for an in-between day. The only downside is the lack of seating. V clearly serves the "to go" crowd, but I would have liked to have stayed and watched the hustle and bustle. Luckily there is abundant human-watching to be had on Rice Howard Way. A V sandwich just makes the experience that more interesting.

I LOVE this place! I've tried the sate beef and the sate chicken subs and I can't decide which one I like (LOVED) better! The meat was perfectly cooked with a sweet sauce and the vegetables were fresh and delicious. I would recommend this place highly for lunch or dinner. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful -- they even started making gift certificates after I asked if they sold them.
