Review from Andrey T.
Royal Oak, MI
I heard they served dill pickle soup, so went there for lunch for my 1st visit. I assumed they would have kept the decor from Fiddleheads; they did not. Looks like a standard diner.I asked if their kielbasa was home made; Eckrich, so I passed on that. I ordered a bowl of dill pickle soup and the Hungarian goulash on potato pancakes. The bowl is HUGE! Their cup is a bowl. Too bad the soup had no flavor. Clearly home made, but the Coney at 12 and Mound does it much better.
Goulash came - it was a large portion. Potato pancake was top notch. Will go back for that alone (meaning only thing I will order). Goulash had lots of meat, but otherwise tasted like a processed base gravy with added meat and veg. And the veg was mush. Really bad dish.
Lots of short cuts, big portions, pricey for the lack of quality; hope they get better. -

i'm Polish so i love love love the Polish food
now that we got that out of the way I went here for the 1st time and staff was friendly, ordered myself some chicken noodle soup, pierogis (3 potato and 3 cheese) and a side of homemade mashed potatoes. a bread basket was given to the table and the bread was so good i ate 2, they told me if was from a bakery and they sold it there by the loaf...good to know when i want to carb binge.
Chicken Noodle Soup (see my picture) = very good
Pierogies = not like my Gmas
Homemade Mashed Potatoes = those were NOT real potatoes mashed up, they were boxed and it made me sad
if anything i would go there for soup and bread or better yet a carry out of soup and a loaf of bread -

Birmingham, MI
First impression are often the deal maker/breaker and when I walked through the door there was this smell. I stayed anyway and had a passable breakfast (farmers omelet) but the odor was always there. it wasn't a kitchen smell or an unsanitary smell...it was like the old apartment buildings my friends lived in on Prentis St. near WSU. It's a smell that has just taken up residence and isn't going anywhere no matter how much it's aired out. This space has been a restaurant since I can remember and that goes back to the 50's. V & M is a barn of place with too much seating which draws attention to all those empty tables. If I have a hankering for anything that they offer, I'll do a carryout.

Review from Friend of D.
First, the good: ample parking, clean restaurant, well-staffed, very large menu
Now, the not so good: The huge menu consists largely of regular American fare (similar to Big Boy) and about 6 typically Polish items (kielbasa, various types of pierogi, stuffed cabbage, city chicken, schnitzel). For a restaurant that calls themselves a Polish Kitchen, I would have expected more than this. As for the food itself, we tried the Polish combination plate (kielbasa, pierogi, and stuffed cabbage) and none of it was very tasty, and several items were not hot enough. I realize this could be just my own taste, so I encourage everyone to try it and judge for themselves.
I speak Polish and could not hear any Polish being spoken in the restaurant or kitchen. I read on a job seeker forum (from a person responding to an ad) that the owners are not even Polish, but Macedonian. That would explain why the food did not quite taste truly Polish. The V&M Polish Kitchen menu says "Since 1988", yet they just opened in Royal Oak, so they must have had a restaurant somewhere else previously, yet a Google search shows nothing ever existed. Hmmm...?
I will not go there again. If I want good Polish food in the Detroit area, I will go to the Polish Village Cafe in Hamtramck.
