Awesome possum!! This one was a cinch to organize! I didn't even need to make a reservation because the venue was huge (I called to make one but she was like, "don't bother"). All I did was follow the "If you post it, they will come" philosophy. And sure enough, we were 15 people!
I must echo the others in saying that Dru's version of Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" and the random interpretive Tai-chi dancer were the highlights of the night.
I also had a lot of fun singing with everyone--shout out to Kat, Cyndi, Steph, and Crystal!
Oh and this venue has 1L mojitos! Holy! But... I think the alcohol was lacking in there a bit. Then again, I have a ridiculous tolerance. The 2 L I drank didn't hit me till I got home. :-p
Considering how easy this was to organize, I think another rendezvous is in order for Feb!
P.S. sorry for making everyone deaf with my many songs. I needed to unleash my inner pop star.Listed in: Yelpage

Review from Tim S.
I strode down Granville Street on a rainy winter's Monday night. Suddenly, power chords unmistakably in the style of Jon Bon Jovi drifted under a door. Ah, I said. Ah. Wherever I am, I must have arrived.
For was it not Sherlock Holmes who once remarked thus to Watson: "To the man who loves art for its own sake, it is frequently in its least important and lowliest manifestations that the keenest pleasure is to be derived." Could there yet be doubt but that Dr. Holmes was speaking of our most beloved, yet much maligned, institution of karaoke? Nay! I say not! For I have seen the delight that would begin slowly to wash across the Doctor's face, amazing to behold!, when his amateur Joni Mitchell covers came up in conversation.
But I'm up too late and I'm already tired of this gimmick, so I'll get to the point: what a good time! It was a pleasure and privilege to finally meet Cyndi and to see a whole cast of Yelp friends both new and old. Highlights? Drew totally rocking Lady Gaga (loved the claws) and Larry's impeccable rendition of Runaround Sue. And, of course, the 1 L Mason jar mojitos were something else. (Don't try this at home, kids!)
Many thanks to the fearless and lovely-as-always Reena M. for organizing! -

Too much fun.
I know I'm parroting the group, but Dru, your Gaga was utterly amazing. I wish I had it on video! For this reason, I request more Karaoke UYE's in order to see Dru's collection of greats.
*drumroll please*
Here are my Top ELEVEN fave things about Reena's Rockin' UYE!
1. Dru's Gaga (made me gaga happy!)
2. Meeting Brittany and Tim for the first time- what great peeps!
3. Mr. interpretive dancer (aka the man I've chosen for Vincci)
4. Reena's many debuts... she's famous at the Forum!
5. The hosts incredible singing (I'm melting) & die hard regulars
6. Fake fireplaces on the tv screens
7. 1L jars of mojito goodness
8. Rocking onstage as a group Last Christmas (tour soon to come)
9. Learning that *some* yelpers like Country music - YAY!
10. The free cake (or did someone buy it? So good)
11. The group of us dancing to Brown Eyed Girl as the security guard sang. SO RAD.
David and I didn't get to sing 'I want it that way' together, but next time we will... keep practicing! : D
Was sooo amazing to see you all. Reena, thank you for organizing!Listed in: Group Activities, Yelpsters Unite!

Best night ever! I had tons of fun, and we sang our faces off! The special mojito drink was amazing. The location was awesome, and it wasn't busy so our group sang on the stage most of the time, while we had some other people in the bar!
Great times, great memories, and the my very first UYE event ever! Will be going to more once I get back from Paris~
See everyone soon!! -

The Yelp Gang's rendition of Last Christmas was magical. And that's not the $9.50 mojitos talking! As always, Reena plans one heck of a UYE and our major presence at Forum made for fun dancing and mingling. I wasn't lying when I said I fell in love with Whitney and food-toque guy's rendition of Extreme's More than Words: http://www.youtube.com...
Special shout outs to Drew and Brittany! Great to meet you both at your first ever UYEs!
(I'll leave some of the finer details of who sang what for others to review...)
I'm down for karaoke, anytime, any place!Listed in: Unofficial Yelp Events? Yes…

Well done Yelpers, another karaoke night dominated by us!
Last Christmas I would have never dreamed of jumping on stage and singing karaoke, but thanks to you Yelpers with your backup and support I am happy to get up there and sing like it's a Cabaret.
The Hot & Cold treats of the evening were the chocolate cake and the mason jars full of mojitos! I could seriously have a Bad Romance with both those delectable treats. Any Man of Mine will know that chocolate comes first, but Before He Cheats he best remember I have a posse of Yelpers to back me up.
I have so much Modern Love for you Yelpers, and it was great meeting you newbies, Brittany and Dru, too! Thanks for the fun times. If you Don't Stop Believing, you will be elite in no time.
Don't forget interpretive dance guy. He's unlikely to give you the Runaround Sue (I'm really stretching here), as he really wanted Cyndi to take photos of him singing and dancing.
Okay, that's the best I can do. I'm sure I have forgotten a bunch of songs.
Edit - Last night I sat Straight Up in bed because I had forgotten one of the best songs of the night.Listed in: Yelp Love

Another Yelp get-together, even with me under the weather, and not being myself, I still decided to suck it up and drag my rear end to this event, with my brother in check, and see what this was all about. The Forum is one great place, and you definitely cannot tell from the outside. On any night I can see this as one of those ultimate sports bars, but this review is about the event in the title, and I will stick to that. The MC who runs this night of karaoke kept the night going, with his funny crude remarks, and his excellent singing.
What surprised me the most is some of the singing voices within this Yelp community. There are some "Las Vegas" style stage performers that were there that night which shined on the small stage, and some, also dancing with the flow of the music. A memorable experience, especially joining the rest of the brave Yelp crew on stage in one song near the end of my night.
Definately a shout out to Drew for "Bad Romance", I do not think I can ever listen to that song the same after that performance, which was probably the ultimate ice breaker. Also a shout out to Brittany, as it was her first Yelp event, hope to see you at more upcoming ones!
I hope another one of these events is around the corner real soon, I hope someone makes it happen! -

4 out of 5 aint bad. not at all. Why only 4? I didn't get to sing my song by the Beatles "I've just seen a face"
It would have come with a dance routine as well!
cool.... but you didn't get to hear and see it.
Oh well.
Besides, that, it was fun!!! Great singing with everyone up on stage. Almost felt like doing the "We are the world" remix.
Loved my drinks. Chicken wings were nice and most of all, the company was sweet.Listed in: UYE = Unnoficial Yelp Events
