I recently accompanied a client of mine to her appointment with Dr. Penny.  What an exciting discovery!  Dr. Penny specializes in working with individuals who experience visual challenges post brain injury.  I wish I would have known about her sooner.  If there are other optometrists in this city that actually know what they're dealing with in these circumstances, I haven't heard of them.  She conducted testing I've never seen before.

Dr. Penny is knowledgeable, personable and pro-active.  She has additional follow-up planned with my client and will be recommending vision therapy, which is part of her practice.  My client should have had vision therapy at least four years ago but obviously no one else she saw knew what to do with her.  Seriously, what a godsend.  If you or someone you know has been impacted by changes to their vision after a head injury, one had better pay her a visit.

I love this chic clinic, sometimes it is crazy busy but with exception to one minor issue (snooty receptionist) I have to say that I am quite happy with the overall service and eye doctors here.

I followed Dr. Schmidt from Centre Street, and find him to the point, quick and efficient, he is quite old so knows his stuff.  Having said that the younger guys are not too shabby either.  Dr. Riesner diagnosed my little guy with a severe eye condition and thanks to him, we got to a specialist pretty quick!  He is "pretty" easy on the eyes too, so that's a nice little extra! :) And he is great with kids, as such, is my kids doctor.

I have waited a while on one occasion but for the most part they are on time with their appointments and they do take in emergencies so that could contribute to the wait times.

The one thing that knocks them down a star is their prices for their glasses and sunglasses, I paid MUCHO DINERO for a pair of Fendi's here that I found somewhere else for about 40% less, I was mad at first but it was my own fault for not doing my due diligence on pricing beforehand.  It sucks to have no benefits, but I do love my new specs!

Their sales girls for the most part are pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable, plus they DO NOT work on commission which is nice. One receptionist gave me attitude on the phone when I had a question regarding something on an invoice, turns out she was not even qualified to be answering anything pertaining to invoicing and the issue was cleared up, but other than that, I give them a solid A!

    (or a crystal clear, E F P T O Z....)!

Okay, so I'll let you in on a secret: I'm super vain and I hate having to wear my glasses. I get the luxury of skipping out on wearing my g's because my eyesight is not so terrible yet that I can't see the world. It is just a little blurry, is all. In the dry Calgary weather my eyes dry out with contacts ( I wear them sometimes) but when I lost my last pair I had to face the fact that I really shouldn't be driving without them.

So it was off to Market Mall Eye Care, where my optometrist of forever had moved. Initially, I was really PO'd about the move, because it was a lot further and more inconvenient than before. But as soon as I stepped inside and saw the floor to ceiling glasses frames of exquisite cuteness, I knew I couldn't stay mad. After all, my optometrist is really great and thorough. And they had a TON of glasses to choose from.

I ended up trying on about half of the glasses in the store, but the lady helping me was very nice and very patient. I finally narrowed it down to three pairs, and the she helped me select the lenses I would want. I told her I needed the new frames ASAP, and they had them all ready to go in two days. I was definitely impressed.

I was in search for a new pair of glasses, so I checked out Urban Optique.  I was greeted right away by on of the opticians.  They have a huge selection of frames here!  There were numerous styles of each designer.  They had Prada, Chanel, D&G, Ray Bans, Oakley, Bvlgari and Fendi, to name a few!  They have the glasses locked up, so I asked the woman if I could look at a pair that caught my eye.  She unlocked them and I tried them on.  They were a beautiful simple pair of Chanel glasses, $318.  Why I subject myself to torture like that I don't know.  I tried on a couple other pairs that didn't work for me, then I asked her if she had any suggestions.  So she pointed out some Prada and Fendi ones, I wasn't in love with any of them.  So I decided to think about the Chanels.  They don't offer any cheaper options, although they did have a selection of styles at 25% off.  So expect to pay $200 to $350 for just the frames.  If you have a recent prescription, they can take that, if not, they require a eye exam.  the exams go for $120 for someone who wears contacts.

I was happy with the service at Urban Optique.  The prices make it hard for someone who doesn't have insurance to shop here.  Its a place I highly recommend if you are looking for a great selection of designer frames!

Your prescription should belong to you if you have paid for an examination, but be prepared for a tug of war because this is one of those places where they don't want to give you the info so you can shop around.   Although the selection of frames is very impressive here, it is very high end and pricey.  If you get your eyes examined by one of the doctors in this office, they want to charge you extra for information such as your PD. - $25.00 in fact.  I think having just paid $120 for an examination that all of my information belongs to me, and I can either buy at this location or if I see something elsewhere I can buy it there, I can even buy online if I chose to do so.  The point is the choice is mine and at this business i feel they pressure into buying with them.
