The combination of the location, decor, cleanliness, quality of service and price at Urban Nails is practically impossible to beat.
The decor is modern and welcoming, and black and white damask wallpaper is particularly cute. The staff are diligent and efficient - testament to this is the constantly occupied manicure chairs. Particular kudos to Cassidy who delivered in a big way with exceptionally attentive cuticle work. Selection of nail colours is excellent. Drying area is separate (in the back) and there is no rush to leave (even though main area with mani/pedi stations looks and operates like an efficient factory), with plentiful recent magazines (yay Vanity Fair!) for one's perusal.
Urban Nails is right by Broadview station - if you drive, parking is usually a b#!%ch on The Danforth, but if you are a bit savvy with advance planning look up the north side streets for less hassle and no donation to City of Toronto parking services. -

Contrary to what my previous review said, this one will in fact be my last review. There are many good things about this place. It's clean, employees are generally friendly, customer service is fantastic. Kevin, a co-owner, got back to me about every complaint I've ever made. Directly or indirectly, he knows what people are saying and he's happy to correct it. On my last visit the other co-owner even came to talk to me about my previous review and how they could make it better.
But there are also things that aren't so great. Now before I say what they are I just want to disclose that I've only ever been to three nail salons so this may be par for the course and I'm just a picky bitch. When I walk in and tell the receptionist what services I'm looking for, my hope is that I'll be put with a technician who does that thing. I'm trusting in these people to know what they're doing even if I haven't made an appointment. This trust is lost here.
If you're going MAKE an appointment and ask that person who the best person for whatever service you want is. I found someone and will be going back to Urban Nails. My last visit was fantastic. My only gripe is that my Shellac is once again peeling after only a week. I'm starting to think it's more the fault of the product than the technician though.
With all these reviews you'd think I was talking about a heart surgeon!4 Previous Reviews: Show all »

My nails take forever to grow long and I finally got them to a really nice length and went to Urban Nails for a mani/pedi. The owner, Kevin, ironically enough was the person who sawed off my nails after I clearly stated I JUST wanted them shaped.
Then he was a complete a$$hole, when I was trying to shape my nails myself he rudely told me to go sit somewhere else so he could take another client, ie: make some money!!
So I asked where's the manager? He said, I am the owner!! I stated I was shocked and disgusted at how he treated me and would never come back, and I would make sure anyone I know would not come back. -

clean, helpful staff and i enjoy going during the beginning of the week as opposed to the weekend ( it gets very busy ) but if you do go the later part of the week you will find that the weekend receptionist, Alex is Great!!!
The younger staff are high energy and helpful while the older ladies are passive but very accommodating; Kevin the owner is the 'stabilizer' - he sees all and doesn't miss a nothing ------- 10 for Kevin ----they all know the toe and nails though -

CUSTOMER SERVICE WIN!! So Five days after my Shellac Application, the polish is bubbling and chipping off. I contact urban Nails via email, and (the owner?) asks me to visit the salon and speak to Kevin to have them looked at. He agreed that something was not right, and I was told that I could have them re-done free of charge.
I visited on a busy Sunday afternoon, But they still managed to squeeze me in with one of their best, Mary, to ensure I was satisfied. I am! My nails look incredible. Mary also informed me that they DO have Axxium, but they don't recommended it as it causes more damage to your nails than Shellac.
Excellent customer service, and very impressed with the entire team.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Toronto, ON
After going to tons of different nail salons all my life and not recieving any kind of astonishing service or mind blowing results I am really excited and thankful to say I really really like this one.. Alot. Mind you, I always pick mid range salons to get my nails done in. This salon is clean, with modern chic interior decor. It doesnt reek of chemicals, has all the staff in uniforms, and owns up to an overall pleasant and pretty atmosphere. Whenever I go in someone always asks me if I'd like a beverage. I've picked a great tec named Tom. He is very skilled, friendly, and efficient with his work. Something I can appreciated from a tech is their ability to adjust their behaviour to what you want. I'm the kind of person who likes to sit and relax quietly. I dont enjoy chatting constantly and especially small talk. Tom notices this and doesnt make my silence awkward or take offense. I always get bio gels, and he does a fantastic job. The owner, Kevin is also very pleasant and takes his customers seriously. I feel like he knows what he's doing, and doing it well. I'm so happy that I've discovered a salon close to my home that I truly look forward to going to every couple weeks.

By far my fave nail spot in the east end.
Totally affordable ($35 mani/pedis) and the service is top notch.
The decor is clean and modern - it looks nice enough that you might think it costs more than it does. The staff are all very friendly and will leave your nails lookin' their best. I've never made an appointment (they have lots of staff) but they do take resos.
In fact, I made a reservation for a bachelorette group in the summer. They gladly accomodated us and encouraged us to bring in our own champagne & snacks. I've been back a number of times since and would absolutely recommend it!Listed in: Worth the trip to the east end

Review from Victoria M.
Toronto, ON
It's been a while since I first reviewed Urban Nails and I decided it was about time to update it.
Thing still haven't changed, I love this place. I read some of the not-so-raveing reviews that have been posted since I the first review I did on this place and I can't do anything but disagree. Actually it's pretty upsetting since I've been going here for about 2 years now and reading what people have been writing.
I'd like to set the record straight because I think the negative reviews were way over exaggerated and don't agree with them at all. Before I do that now I'm going to give my update.
I've been wearing the Brisa Gel nails for a while now and they're amazing. They look so natural and you don't even feel like you have fake nails/tips. So if it's your first time or you've been thinking of trying the Brisa Gel don't hesitate. Yes, they are a little more expensive than acrylic or regular gel nails but they don't damage your natural nails and look great. It'll be about 3-4 weeks between fills so they last longer too. Oh and Kevin does my nails but anyone can do them so you won't be disappointed.
As for the pedicures, still amazing. I've been going to Mary for them for a bit now and they last forever. Again everyone does a great job but she's the girl I prefer to go to.
Actually this is a key point... you may have to try one or two different people before you find someone you really like. Like I said everyone does a great job however you may find someone who scrubs your feet better or paints your nails in a certain way that you prefer so over time you might end up with your favs too.
Now, again a side note before I get into setting the record straight you SHOULD make an appointment. it WILL save you from having to wait 10-30min if you go in at a busy time. I won't lie to you this place gets BUSY and for good reason... it's amazing. So make an appointment!
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT:
I read Joanne S' review and I thought she was for one, either having a really bad day or two, is/was over exaggerating. All I have to say to this is if you feel like something wasn't done correctly I would tell whoever is doing your nails the way you'd like it to be done. It won't offend them and actually they'd probably appreciate it because they can make your experience a pleasant one. Also, I have no idea whatsoever how your Shellac could chip in a day. 3 words... IT WON'T CHIP. Unless you are picking at it or soaking you hands in water for extended periods of time for no reason then MAYBE okay yes I can see it chipping. But let's get real here it's not possible and if it is I'd like to know how because I've never heard anything to the contrary before this. If you had a problem with the thickness of the tip you should have said something while it was being done rather than venting your frustration out on yelp. Just a thought.
As for Stephanie M's review again using words which are a little over the top. I'm more than sure Kevin did not SAW off your nails. He was probably making them even so they all looked uniformed. And as for him asking you to sit somewhere else I would have done the exact same thing. If you are doing your own nails and he has an appointment he should be taking care of his client while you do your own nails if you're so unhappy. And if he did "saw off your nails" you probably helped that too since you went ahead and did it on your own.
Regardless, these two reviews were ridiculous and not an accurate reflection of Urban Nails. As you can see many of the reviews give this place 4 or 5 stars and those are accurate. Everyone is friendly and the service is superior to other places nearby.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I breezed in on a Monday afternoon & was seated almost immediately (the only lag was on my part, choosing a polish). I was offered tea or water - which I declined, I can never figure out how to manage without messing up a nail...
Everyone was friendly - it didn't take that long - my manicure turned out lovely. I'll definitely return as I know I can count on reliability. -
Review from Kelly K.
Toronto, ON
All my life I felt that as I had short/stubby fingers with short/stubby fingernails to match, what was the point in paying somebody to slap some varnish on it when I could do it myself? I also thought that said stubbies would look ridiculous with the bright and bold colours I favoured, so I didnt bother.
Today though, changed everything. A friend and I took another friend to Urban Nails for a pre-wedding manicure. While I originally was going to go with a nice and safe "clear" polish, I decided to toss caution to the wind and go with the brightest and boldest red I could find.
My nails now resemble cherry jellybeans and I am enamoured of my fingers for the first time ever. They are no longer fingernails, no. They are kellybeans!
My esthetician, Sarah, not only did a great job on my hands, but she also touched up my eyebrows for me (waxing, not polish obviously) not only listening to what I was telling her but actually following through on it.
While I wont be giving up my precious Sugar Moon for my delicates, I have a new, closer-to-home, spot for everything else now.
(Also, should add that the only time Sarah spoke in Vietnamese to her co-workers was to ask clarification on something I had said or asked. It was English all around as far as I could tell)Listed in: Torontoness

I made my first trek to Urban at the recommendation of Victoria M whose reviews you see below.
Let me say - this place does NOT disappoint.
I'm insanely picky about my nails. I used to go to Classique Nails in Pickering for years when I was in high school. After a short hiatus while in university, I decided to make my return to the world of nails.
I've been hard pressed to find a decent nail place in all of Toronto whose expertise and atmosphere could top what Classique had gotten me used to. After many visits to another hot spot in the downtown core and being increasingly disappointed, I was on the hunt for another, better nail place.
You need not look any further than Urban nails. Not only have they matched Classique, but - dare I say it - they've surpassed. I'm always happy with the job Kevin does and my Brisa gel french mani and nails stay gorgeous until I decide to visit for my 3 week fill. I'm thinking I may even be able to stretch to 4 weeks at some points in the winter.
A caveat, however - always make an appointment. This place is insanely busy; I guess word of mouth spread the news about their consistent, amazing job that they do on all clients' nails.
My pedis always last over 4 weeks - regular polish - not Shellac. Go see Sarah or Mary....but anyone really will hook you up with a great pedi.
Prices are incredibly reasonable.
Despite moving out of the Downtown area, I always drive the extra bit for the outstanding job at Urban Nails. -
Review from Tamar F.
I came here with members of our wedding party for the requisite mani-pedis after (a) being completely unaware of nail salons in the area (b) reading plenty of positive reviews (c) realizing it wasn't too bad a trek. We wanted somewhere affordable, but also a place that didn't feel dirty - basically just wanted to have a good time.
The services are moderately priced - $35 for a mani/pedi without tips. I was contemplating Bio Gel since I never wear nail polish given how tough on my nails I am, but they told me not to do so. Okay. My maid of honor opted for the bio gel and they looked like they came out very well.
Other than her, our experiences were mixed. The reviews were right that the place is clean and doesn't reek of acrylic, which was good. The staff was a crapshoot. One flower girl and her mom had a really good experience, as did my mom. However, I - along with the other flower girl & her mom - weren't so lucky. The other flower girl/mom combo had someone who couldn't understand them at all and wound up being pretty rude to them. My lady was not friendly in the slightest, and only after keeping my hands under the dryer did I notice that the polish had been applied very unevenly and there was cotton caught between the layers.
Luckily, the staff took off the polish and painted over (another girl did this, who was way more competent). This girl also had to redo my cuticles because the other one had left them very ragged.
The manicure lasted though I hated having long-ish nails and took off all of the polish/cut my nails a couple of days after the wedding. The toes (done by the first one) didn't last long but I was wearing sandals most of the time and had danced the night away, so it wasn't typical wear-and-tear.
Overall the nails turned out alright, and the staff fixed their errors, but they all seemed so busy and rushed that the experience itself wasn't enjoyable. I may give them the benefit of the doubt and go solo if I ever need a manicure again in Toronto (highly unlikely) but if you're in a group and want to enjoy yourself and feel pampered I'd suggest either booking a party outside of their normal hours or going elsewhere. Definitely was NOT a relaxing "girl time" experience in the slightest.Listed in: The Rub Down

Review from Kat F.
My "Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow" mani lasted nearly two full weeks before showing any signs of chipping. That's a quality manicure!
I went back to get a refresher while pacing back and forth on the Danforth waiting for a tardy friend. I noticed that all of the manicurists have "English" names (ie Cassidy, Jessica, Sky, etc.). This time I saw Michelle, who expertly painted my nails with "A Oui Bit Of Red". However, her hand massage wasn't satisfying - far too short and no individual digit massage which is kind of my favourite part - and she was overly cuticle keen.Listed in: Best Nail Salons In Toronto

Went to Urban Nails today with my girl Kat "nail spot expert!!" F. So glad I went. The nails on my hands and feet were beginning to scare small children, so they needed to be tamed and purdied up.
This place is great! For $35 you get an awesome mani/pedi. For prices this cheap, my previous experiences at other shops have resulted in shoddy work. Not at Urban Nails. The staff are skilled and know what they are doing.
This place is super busy but highly efficient. As I was watching everyone buzz around in order, it seemed like a well oiled machine. There are tons of staff, lots of massage pedi chairs and mani tables. The decor is super cute and does not feel like a nail sweat shop.
The chairs are quite comfy. I really liked the mani chairs and actually want to have one of them as my office chair at work!
I second Kat's statement that the massages could be beefed up. But, at $35 for a mani/pedi...I am willing to overlook this fact.
What really impressed me about this place is the care they take after they have coloured your world. There is a holding/waiting/drying room in the back. You are not rushed out. There is nothing worse than getting your nails done and you are not given enough time to let the polish set.
I admit that I am usually a purist when it comes to getting any type of spa services done. I tend to go for the whole experience of the "spa" and end up paying dearly for it. Urban Nails has transformed me. If I want to get my nails done, feel like I have treated myself a bit, and not spend a ton of money...this is the place I will be going to from now on.
Highly, highly recommend.Listed in: Wax on, wax off

My cousin brought us here a day before her wedding day. Here is my breakdown summary:
Location: GREAT! I would advise you not to drive because parking is a b on the danforth. In addition, it is right on the subway line.
Neighbourhood: Its close enough to downtown but either before or after your nails you can always check out some of the chic restaurants and dessert spots nearby.
Decor: It's a cute spot. I love the contrast with the black and white decor. The damask accents are a great touch as well. It can get crowded depending on the time of day you go but that's the usual for any nail place.
Service: There were four of us that were scheduled TOGETHER but for whatever reason my esthetician took a while getting her equipment together. So while my cousin and b/maids were already at the manicure stations I was still sitting in the big leather chairs.
My mani-pedi was okay. Felt rushed and half-assed because we were scheduled near their closing time.
It's hard to think of anything positive to say about the experience since I sat by myself 90% of the time. There was a language barrier so they don't really chat with you. Moreso chat with each other. -

Rated Best Nail Place in Toronto by Cinnia
Anyone looking for that nail place that has it all:
- Great prices
- Ability to do Brisa Nails
- Friendly staff that cares
- Easy accessibility from the TTC
- Great atmosphere
You have come to the right place. I am telling you, I've been to LOTS of nail places in Toronto, and if your fed up like me because it's not hygenic, or it's too expensive or if they suck, then you are like many Torontonian women who need to find the best nail place in Toronto. There are always cool sassy women, men, children in there (including me) and the staff is super friendly and helpful. I have converted many and you should too!
Tip: should make appointment, but can walk in if you don't mind waiting for a few minutes, they are pretty accommodating and there is a funny little angry manager man who yells at everyone. -
Review from Amanda A.

This place is pretty cool. The decor and set-up is what drew me in, but the prices and staff are what made me stay.
The manager is hilarious. At least, I assume he's the manager. Really funny and sweet guy - he goes out of his way to make sure the clients are happy. He always has a smile on his face, and I have to give him credit because that place is so busy.. I'd lose my mind managing it.
You can't really do a walk-in on weekends, but you can get a quick appointment and just do some shopping or get a coffee while you wait for your time. You probably won't get a regular nail tech unless you specify who you want to see and go on a down time. Everyone goes here to get their nails done - and I mean everyone. Men, women, children.. I've seen 5 year old boys getting pedicures here.
They have an excellent polish selection (note: no polish for sale) and esthetic services in the basement. If you are a regular client you can get a box set up with your own tools - so only your tools are used on you each time. When you are in the drying room you will see some of these client boxes set up on floor to ceiling bookshelves. It gives you a measure of just how many regular clients they have.
Urban Nails is great. Excellent service and the price is right. This is by no means a "spa", but this is exactly what I like in a nail salon. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I am not always up for the hustle and bustle of Urban Nails, and I'll just opt to do my own nails at home.
PS - well ventilated too.. a major plus for me. -
Review from Danielle E.

Currently I am pretty in pink, actually I am a little chipped and broken in pink. I do not blame Urban Nails though, as I usually am missing much larger chunks of polish due to the "hands-on" nature of my job. In fact I think I got a pretty solid week our of these nails. Not to mention that my toe nails are still going strong.
My attendance at this modern nail salon was due to Miss Shari M's stay-cation, and I am glad I was invited to take part. Let's start with how quickly they sat us down and began the pampering. We were fully walk-in patrons and they had no problem helping us out. Don't get me wrong, they were sufficiently busy, but were also sufficiently staffed. I really appreciated the pristine clean environment that surrounded each and every chair.
The manic-manicurists equally balanced speed and comfort, though I could have stood for a teeny bit longer on my foot massage. I enjoyed the casual way they allowed for conversation and interjected when necessary. I also am thankful that when I accidentally nicked my toe polish she didn't b@tch slap me, though I knew that she wanted to.
Slipping into the back room would normally incur fear, but this back area was also beautiful, modern, and full of cozy areas to read while you dried. While this back room was less conducive to conversation, we were dried in time to get out before the sheer boredom set in.
The cost was pretty low to standard at $37.00 after tax, and when I asked for other prices they seemed the same, as in $7.00 for a polish change.
Bottom line...bring on the poor man's massage from this spa joint any time. I will be back for my polish change shortly.Listed in: An"estheticize Me

What this place lacks in terms of English speaking staff it more than makes up for in quality service and funky decor.
Communicating can sometimes be a bit tricky as many of the nail technicians aren't exactly fluent in English but that's not exactly unusual in the manicure trade.
This place is funky and well priced. A manicure is $11 but you get a good hand massage too. They are conveniently located and will always find a way to fit you in as a walk-in despite some very busy times on weekends. They've recently added more chairs for pedicures so it's getting a bit crammed but overall still a great neighborhood nail place. -
Review from Annie L.
Toronto, ON
Seeing this place is always so busy, and with decent reviews, I skipped the 45-minute drive to Richmond Hill and did my nails here instead.
Boy was that a mistake!
Service: I got this woman who kept pushing Bio Gel nails on me. Her attitude immediatelly didn't give me the confidence to blow $50+ on her "artistry" so I just got UV Gel nails instead. It's obvious she felt miffed by this (It's still $40 spent on her so I don't know why the attitude): she repeatedly told me my fingers are too stiff in an annoyed way, until she PAUSED WORK, mildly blew up on me saying "I can't work with hands like this, okay?".
This woman kept speaking in Chinese (thinking I didn't understand) to ask other employees to help her get this, get that, which nobody wanted to help her. She then used obviously old gel on my nails. After 3 coats of "fixers" my nails came out LUMPY and thick like Chiclets. THEN SHE WALKED AWAY and never returned.
I complained to the nail tech next to me, who grudgedly found another nail tech to fix it. This 2nd nail tech repeatedly told me, "I'm just helping her out, I can fix ONE nail but not this other one!" What the heck does THAT mean?!? So after she tried to fix it by slapping on MORE gel, which also came out lumpy, SHE WALKED OFF TOO. The third nail tech came by and said "don't worry your original nail tech will be back."
I waited on the chair for another 10 minutes until I grabbed the front desk manager about this. He gave my butchered hand and "OMG" look and fixed my nails himself. It was nice of him to take $5 off my bill on top of telling me not to tip right off the bat, but an hour later, my fingers are so sore from over-buffing and the heavy-handed techniques ALL the technicians are used to (my friend winced several times from pain; I told the ladies to not go so deep into my nailbed and they both ignored me), I can't wait til these gel nails grow out and go back to Richmond Hill, have Rita fix this hack job for me.
Which I am sure will happen within 3 weeks, because a week later I already noticed the edges lifting from some of the gel. -

Urban nails was recommened to me by a friend who is very hard to please. Having gone to so many crap to mediocre nail salons I thought I'd pop in while I was in the area. So happy I did.
It was busy but they were able to take me for a mani/pedi. Annie was doing my nails and was so nice. She recommened Shellac to me for my manicure and I thought it was worth a try since my nude nail colour usually chips in a few days. I love it, it's amazing. And so far worth the extra $15.
They offered me water, magazines and I felt totally comfortable. All the staff were so professional and the place was beautiful. They did a great job. Definitely the best nail salon I've visited!
This will be my new place! -

Agree with Jen K. and others here who have commented on the staff virtually ignoring their client while chattering away in Korean? Chinese? What ever it is, it's bloody rude and for that reason, I would not go back. There are now three, count em, three nail salons in the Broadview/Danforth area in a three block radius and what I can't figure out is why do they all charge the same amount? There is no incentive to go to one over the other as far as price goes so I guess it comes down to who is less rude and how badly you want to be ignored.

I've only ever been to Urban Nails to get my eyebrows done but they are as good as it gets. Whenever I pass by the salon, there are always customers getting their nails or feet done. I love that the location is great (Broadview and Danforth) but what's even better are their prices...$8 to get an eyebrow wax. Woohoo! The staff are always friendly and today, Lisa was helping me. She was very patient and polite, albeit her English was a bit rough. Nevertheless, I am thoroughly pleased with the results (especially since I hate plucking them myself!)...Will definitely return...Maybe for a mani/pedi myself!

I love this place! The staff is great, the decor is funky, the pedicures are well done, the prices are competitive. I can't say enough :) I love how they'll conserve by offering repeat clients their own nail box so they don't have to throw everything out after each visit.

I went there for the first time 2 days ago. For $20 ($15+tip), I expected more. The whole atmosphere there was just weird: from the fact that the employees do not speak English amongst themselves in the presence of customers (are they talking about me?) to the dirty looks that one female employee was giving me (now I'm certain they are!).
Not sure how others manage to not feel rushed there, because as soon as my manicurist Lisa finished applying the top coat, she grabbed my bag, took me to the drying station, and a second later someone else was sitting in my seat. Assembly line, anyone? But I get it, they are busy and time is money.
The cuticle work wasn't outstanding, and I'm actually left with some torn cuticles. The hand massage was OK, but I didn't enjoy it because it felt very forced (Lisa made sure she avoided eye contact with me at all times). I can't say anything about the staying power of their polishes because I brought my own base coat (China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat), color (Essie Really Red) and top coat (Essie To Dry For).
Maybe I'll be back... after my cuticles heal. -

This is by far the best place for mani/padi. Very worthed. They are very proffessional, they don't rush you out the door like most places. It is a guarantee you will leave from there happy.
