I have stopped in twice now.

1st stop was just to check the place out, it has been years since I have been to a skate shop and wanted to see what it was all about. Chatted with one of the guys and found that we may have crossed paths back in the day skating the Palatine ditch... All right, good place in my book.

2nd stop was to fix up my old stick that I decided to get it back under my feet, it desperately needed some new bearings after years of neglect hanging on the wall. They have a number of choices we talked about the primary use of the board and they made a recommendation. Here's the nice part, rather than let me take em home and fumble around swapping them they offered to pop the old and seat the new saving me time and effort also ensuring I was happy when I left.  Its like a brand new board... well not exactly new but it's less kick push and a load more coast.

    Great selection.

Now where are all my old Thrasher's...

I've been coming here since high school ('02), and I've been to other skate shops; some that aren't worth a second trip, some that closed down but this local spot is a mainstay for Chicago.  This place is truly for everyone and what is cool about it is that the skate veterans/employees are welcoming.  Every time I skate/bike/drive by, I see a mixed demographic. Moms and dads and extended family to the core skaterats, hipsters, and sneakerheads.   The legend Stevie Dredd sometimes mans the place along w Uriyah and Ken, dropping knowledge and recommending certain shoes or apparel, or telling skate-stories worth hearing.  Not into dialogue much?  Theres always a skate vid on.

Now to the fun stuff.  From decks to cruisers, hardware to apparel, shoes to wheels, Nikes to Vans to Vegan shoes, Core skate shoes to the grown man minimal skate silhouette, this store has something for everyone.  Also to mention are the Uprise tees and in-house accessories/stickers.

I have to menton that they have just collaborated with Quiksilver for their Workman Collection.  Very minimal but functional use for their new line!!

    Go check em out now!!!!

One of my favorite sneaker stores in Chicago. They got every  possible Van shoe on the market. I love me some low riding checkboards! :) They also have a great variety of decks, clothing (nike sbs), accessories, videos, dvds, hoodies, and skateboard denim. I wish I could stop by more often.

    I'll update more later.

Very well edited selection. Local store run by nice people who genuinally show an interest in getting kids out and skateboarding, not just pushing product. Uprise is a nice addition to the cultural landscape of Chicago. PS The shop is small, so you can catch some awesome rock-bottom sales, in order to make room for new products.

This place earns its hype.  I remember seeing kids in high school sporting the Uprise shirts and thinking, "what the hell kind of weak punk band name is that?"  It was much later that I realized I was clueless and that it's a skate shop.

I brought in my old Lance Mountain board from when I was a kid to them. Thanks to these guys, it's back in skate-shape.  They didn't push anything I didn't need, and told me that I should ride it even though it's worth a bunch of cash.

Uprise is definitely the real deal.  I'm going to make a point to buy anything I can there to support it, even if you can get it a little cheaper online.  The guys behind the counter and hanging around all skate and know not to push anything you don't need.  And they're a really helpful resource for someone like me who's getting back into it.

Uprise is a skater-owned shop run by people that are passionate about skateboarding and chicago.

i don't skate but my boy does and has been involved with Uprise for years. Yes, I am biased but mostly as a distant observer. Whenever I am waiting around or stopping in the shop i see the same good service to be beginners, browsers and and seasoned skaters. They are more than willing to help with any question, they set up boards for beginners, order stuff and offer any advice they can give.

My biggest reason I support them and tell people that they should be the preferred skate shop is that they have paid their dues and continue to give back to the community - they support programming for kids in the city, support chicago skateboarding and mostly do it for their love of the art.

Less subjective pro's: Nike SB's, good selection of gear and goods and it's in a good, central part of the city. A little far for those far north and far south, but not so far that it isn't worth a trip.

My husband and I went here the other week and I have to say I was very impressed by their selection and the older boards they have displayed on the walls.

However, getting snubbed because I'm a woman really sucks. Only one guy came up and talked to us...sorry, not us...my husband.. and they hit it off talking about old boards and artwork. I tried to chime in since I skated for many years as well and the dude looked at me like I was a piece of crap and blew me off. Thanks.

I skated in the day when Elissa Steamer was the only woman skater we had to look up to and she was pretty dude herself. So, staff at Uprise, I  know a lot of girls and women come in not knowing the first thing about Ed Templeton, Sean Sheffy, or even Jeremy Wray...but some of us do...so give us a chance.

The guys at this shop are super sweet and the selection is pretty stellar. They have multiple stations/tools in the back for people to set up their rides and it's only $5.00 if you want them to do it.

The guys there ride and can give you tips/advice on anything you might ask and from what I've seen, they never give attitude to girls which I've seen at a lot of shops in my day.

If you're thinking about getting your kid a skateboard, don't get a cheap-o one that'll kill them. Drop a little extra cash and get them a decent ride. The sales people here will set you up right.

One of the few SB accounts in the city, this Wicker Park/Bucktown spot delivers on the kicks.  They have a great selection of SBs and tend to have a good amount in larger sizes too.  I only give 4 stars b/c it doesn't have the best selection outside of the SB account, but its definately a must have on my Wicker Park Tour De Kicks list.

Oh, did I mention they also have a mean selection of skater gear and equipment?

I'm very new to skateboarding and had a lot of questions.  The guy I talked to in the shop was really nice and helpful.

My recommendation is probably only helpful to beginners, but if you are new and looking for some nice, knowledgeable people to help you get set and ready to skate, this seems like a good place to start.  Most of the decks seemed to start around $50 and looked pretty solid.  I got the feeling these guys wanted to offer some affordable but reliable products to the people of Chicago.

I'm definitely going back to get equipped.

I never really did much skate-boarding, but i did my share of inline skating back in the day... plus I had much love for the Nike SBs when they came out and many other "skate-related" sneakers.

I went there just about a week ago, and it's an awesome little shop, exactly what im used to seeing in nyc. The staff was awesome and really friendly, the place was small but not crowded and so it was easy to take a look around at all the displays.

Decent selection of sneakers ... i'd say only about 10-12 Nike kicks but i got what i came for the elusive "Gravis IV" -- not that it's so elusive but usually everyplace is out of my size. Def. plan on going there again in the future to check out the new selection.

As a surprise for me my boyfriend took me to Uprise on our way for some planned shopping at Saint Alfred.

As soon as I stepped in I knew I'd walk out with just about all of my cash spent. I instantly gravitated toward the shoe wall. I wanted every single pair. Swear it.

Then a guy notices my dropped jaw and overwhelmed look and welcomes me to shop then asks if i needed any help with anything I was checking out. I told him it was my first visit to the shop ever and that I was just taking it all in. Mind you - I hadn't turned around yet.

When I DID there was this wall FULL Of awesome skate decks. I was in heaven. I fell in love with the DGK deck that kinda had this Kool-Aid face on it and everyone in the shop was really helpful when I asked about assembly and about completes and costs and building my board  and budgets and stuff. They answered all my questions and then some. I bought the deck without wheels and trucks, but after telling the guy I'd be back for those when i got more cash  **returning MONDAY!!!**  he still gave me a run-down all the different types of wheels and trucks and whatnot to make deciding a lot easier for next time.

I left the shop with an " I *heart* Haters" DGK tee and an all-in-one skateboard tool also. I thank my boyfriend like every hour on the hour for bringing me here. He knows how much I hated my old board and I plan on making all skate purchases here from now on.

Uprise is where I've been buying my boards for years now and there really the only place to go to when you want to skate in Chicago. Not only is the shop skater run, their all about skating. From shoes to decks, Uprise knows what they are talking about. Having been open for a while now, Uprise has a huge impact on Chicago Skating. From skate parks to skate spots Uprise is always proving their the best in Chicago.

This place is seriously awesome. Its not HUGE but the staff is excellent. They help you with everything you need. I went in to get some new trucks for my cruiser and they told me some tips and pointers to how to skate better on it, what trucks i should have, rise pads, stuff like that. They know what they are talking about unlike zumiez. Unfortunatly the prices on the trucks are pretty high. Only down side :P

I don't skate. With that said I hit Uprise every few months to check out their selection of skate shoes as the skate culture has always been pretty vegan friendly. These guys are pretty good about knowing what's vegan and what isn't and don't ever give the impression that they're being bothered. Very low on the 'tude scale. I love this place.

Ladies, gentlemen, skaters, posers  and hipsters, if you or your loved one need help in the style category, the great team at Uprise will be more than eager to point them in the right direction. Never snooty nor do they discriminate. They are some pretty smooth players who  slang choice goods. SB account? Check! New Era caps? Check! Hot decks and gear? Check! Free beer and mustache rides?
