I often catch myself singing the "Up Ninety-Nyyyyyyyne Threeeee" jingle... usually at the most inappropriate time.

Up is one of those stations that is set up to appeal to everyone's tastes but at the end of the day, pleases no one. Their whole "hook" is that they play "feel-good" music, whatever that means. They just played Van Halen's "Jump." The song is about suicide. See what I mean? "Feel-good" is a subjective term in the music world.

The morning show with Jason Roberts and Kari Skelton isn't bad. It would be better if the male half of the duo was gone. Kari Skelton is fresh, lively, engaging, and a pleasure to listen to. She almost makes me care about the celebrity gossip that she dishes out everyday. Almost. Her co-host on the other hand sounds like he should be hosting bingo night at the senior's home. I can almost see his comb-over through the airwaves, he is so cheesy. Why is this guy on a morning show? He makes me want to hit the snooze button and sleep for another 8 hours. He mentions on the Up website that he used to pump gas. I wonder if he was good at that...

Robbin Reay is pretty good too. I haven't heard the rest of the DJs yet.

They have some pretty lame on-air events. They are probably the only 21st-century radio station to still do a "Battle of the Bands," where the station puts two bands up against one another and listeners call in to vote for their favourite. Didn't that tradition die with AM radio in the '80s?

Despite the station's claim to be different, they play exactly the same stuff that Joe FM and CapFM play.

They need an image consultant to make them cooler.

    Nice kid. Tries hard.

So I was driving around on Saturday night when I noticed billboards on the southside advertising 99.3 fm Up!

99.3 fm used to be Magic 99 and played mainly Jazz.

This new Up! fm station claims to be Edmonton's " feel good" station.

Well, I tuned the radio to 99.3 fm and started listening.

The first couple of songs were okay, but the third song they played was "Bad Day" by Daniel Powder!!!!!!!

I mean give me a break, a so-called "feel good" station playing one of the most depressing songs to come out in the last 10 years? Might as well play something from Suicidal Tendencies while they are at it.

This station offers nothing that Joe, EZ Rock, Capital and Now are already doing.

If you want a true "feel good" station, check out Now 102.3 fm.

Methinks Up! will will soon be joining Magic in Edmonton's growing radio station graveyard.
