I am all over Untitled Eats!! I went for a lunch date based on a recommendation from a friend and enjoyed everything about it.

The menu is very extensive for a lunch menu. They have a variety of sandwiches, main entrees (for the hungry ones), soups, salads and even breakfast/brunch options. I had a hard time deciding but went with the crab cakes and soup of the day. I love a good crab cake and this one did not disappoint. It was made with all meat, no gross potato filler that's going to make you fall asleep at your desk mid-afternoon. The soup (a creamy roasted cauliflower if I remember correctly) was perfect - not too heavy with cream and just the right amount.

The atmosphere was really modern and cozy. For a small space it didn't feel overly busy so I felt like my date and I had a chance to chat without really worrying about anyone sitting next to us. The server was quick to make recommendations when asked and was very friendly.

At the end of the meal, she also told us that they host events during gallery openings which peaked my interest. Having been in the city for almost 9 years (what?!), I've never been to a gallery opening. Knowing that I can pay a visit to Untitled Eats before an event to have an app and a glass of wine is very appealing.

It's not your usual cinq a sept destination on a Thursday night.
    It's better.

While I've only tried a few things on their regular menu (haddock - yum, soups have been great) - I adore their Thursday night tapas menu. It changes weekly, it's $5, $5, $5.. and always unique and interesting dishes. Deconstructed cordon bleu, double smoked bacon and maple scented bread pudding, roasted Pear and prosciutto parcel, warm lamb sausage with pickled garnish, blue mussel, flecked crab & green pea ceviche... I could go on.
Did I mention $5 belvedere martinis & house wine?
I'm also a fan of the crowd. Mature, interesting & not your regular Argyle peeps.

The 5th star I'm holding back on as these guys are still working out kinks..

Food & Art. Two of my favourite things in the world, colliding under one roof.

    Heaven.

Full disclosure - the Art Gallery & the owners of UE are my second family - so I naturally love the place.

Just back from lunch at Untitled Eats. My coworker/soul sista and I went for lunch, thought we would try something new and escape the confines of the Maritime Centre.

When we walked in I was impressed, they have done alot with a small space. Nice seating, great curtains, lighting was good and artfully decorated.

Our server, Patty, was very nice. I ordered the buttermilk chicken finger sandwich and was told they were no longer serving it, as this location does not have a deepfryer (really, thats good news.. I shouldnt be eating that anyways!) and went for the beef po' boy with a side salad instead.

As soon as I saw it , I was a bit disappointed. Expecting a nice chunk of bread for a po'boy, it was served on a rather small bun/baguette - way overtoasted, dark brown crispiness and it didnt have any softness left. I believe they broiled it to melt the cheese on the beef, and it dried the beef out quite a bit. Made for too much chewing and a bit of disappointment. Flavour-wise, the beef was great and the aoili was as well. The side salad was nothing spectacular, but was fresh and crisp with a light house dressing.

Soul sista ordered the vegetarian crockpot from the "bigger plates" menu and it honestly was probably a cup and a half of bean soup. The beans themselves were undercooked and when mentioned to the server, we were told they were that way on purpose. Not so lovely. Also, they were served with 3 or 4 little cheese toasts (similar to melbas) and they had liquid smoke on them, i took a bite and wanted to spit it out like an unhappy 4 year old. You will be happy to hear I refrained.

In the end I did mention our disappointment to Patty and they took a small percentage off the bill. We did FINISH our food so I didnt expect it to be comped or anything, so we were happy to pay just a bit less.

Patty also reassured us she would take our comments to the kitchen. As we were putting our coats on, the woman I assume is the manager came over and promised us if we were to return they would comp us some desserts.

I was extremely pleased with the customer service and I will return to try another meal down the road. Hopefully my second visit will have me back here with a higher rating!

After catching a glimpse of their menu online, I was so very excited to fall in love with this brand new restaurant in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (AGNS). I had never made it to any of the previous cafés in this spot so I felt like this would be the start of a new era wherein I would eat fancy lunches, drink wine during the daytime, and spend the afternoon wandering through the art gallery like a very fancy person.

To kick things off, Untitled Eats is pretty darn gorgeous. It's very simple, very white and beige, and very minimalist. Which I love. But yet, they've injected nice splashes of awesome like the unique lighting over the bar, and the beautifully-retro upholstery on the seats. Of course, the walls are covered with art worthy of our provincial gallery which never hurts.

Service was lovely and surprisingly upscale with servers dressed in all black, each likely with obvious experience in finer-dining establishments. Our server was happy to help find some dishes that are lighter on the wheat (not many...celiacs may want to hold off for now) but you can tell they're still getting used to the menu themselves. In a couple of weeks, these folks will be absolute pros.

The menu itself is all kinds of love. There are seafood dishes like lobster benny (brunch only), crabcakes, smoked salmon and chowder. There are vegetarian dishes like the crockpot, the panini, and multiple salad choices. There's even a vegan wrap with Atlantic Canadian smoked tofu which is next on my list to try. Prices seemed to range from $8 for a lighter plate to $13-15 or so for main dishes.

With the crockpot ordered, I may have let my expectations get a little too high. It arrived beautifully plated but really lacked in the flavour department. It was warm, hearty and filling but didn't really offer much for the taste buds. Naturally, had it been really tasty, I would have felt quite good about the order but instead I was a little disappointed to have spent $13 on a cup of thick root vegetable soup. Actually, I'd suggest removing this from the 'Bigger Plate' section of the menu...

While I didn't fall in love, I'll definitely be back given that I'm oh-so tempted by other items on the menu and they do have a lunchtime wine list that can make my 'very fancy person' dream come half true. High hopes for round two!

Had a chance to check out the brunch at Untitled Eats this past Sunday.  My friend and I arrived just as they unlocked the doors at 10am, and we remained the only customers for the time we were there.  I'm not surprised-- we did remark on our way down that Halifax is a veritable ghost town before 11 on Sundays.  The streets looked like a scene from 28 Days Later.

Because we were on our own (and also likely because she is simply a good server and nice person) our server was very attentive and friendly.  She had a good knowledge of the menu, and shared her favourite choices.  My friend settled on the lobster benny, and I on the crab benny.  The difference between the two (besides the type of seafood) was that with the crab version, the bread base has been replaced by a crab cake (100% meat-- no filler here).  My friend's lobster version had fresh bread on the bottom and a good portion of lobster meat.  The poached eggs were done to perfection and topped with bernais.

Needless to say, the bennies were delicious.  They were served on a long rectangular plate with the main in one corner and a small serving of halved mini potatoes on the opposite corner.  I would have liked to have had more greens to go with the dish, but I was happy to focus on the crab-based goodness.

Very pretty inside-- minimalist and bright.  It was a nice complement to the gallery style.  I'd go back again.
