Anyone living in Vancouver craving some outdoors forest action should come here. When we first got our puppy and lived on the west side this place was a godsend! There are some trails which are off-leash and some that aren't, most people ignore them. We only got "caught" and reprimanded by the forest police (park ranger?) types once. Our pup is well trained so we don't have to worry about him but some people might get choked if your dog is leaping in the way as they try to run by- quite a few serious groups/ solo trail runners in here.
Excellent spot for a leisurely forest walk, jog, or runListed in: FREE Vancouver, Dogcouver.

The Endowment Lands is one of the best parts about attending UBC. Sure that whole learning thing is great and all, but when I need a break from the books I hop on my bike and pedal into "The Lands."
I know it is now referred to as Pacific Spirit Park, but I spent the better part of the 80's right smack dab in the middle of it all, building many a fort too!
One of the best rides I have ever had was one warm summer day five years ago. I was pedaling along random trails and kept hearing this familiar music. "Wow, a big house party?" I thought. Hmmm. With a quick pedal to the south east I discovered that Radiohead was serenading me and Thunderbird Stadium with "Fake Plastic Trees". An ironic song for this particular ride, as there is nothing fake about that beautiful old growth forest. What a treat!Listed in: Get off your ass!, Vancouver Greenery

Gorgeous. Peaceful. Wealthy. Fancy. Enclosed. Nice houses. Big trees. Fresh scent.
Just a few words that come to mind when I think of the UEL. -

One of the most amazing parts of this city are the Endowment Lands. You see, within fifteen or so minutes from downtown, you are in a wonderland of trails, trees, people, and dogs. Dogs off-leash. Horses prancing. Walking for hours, you take in the clean air, and the city and its pressures melt away. I have been all over Canada, but have never experienced nature like these woods so close to the city. So, don your runners, bring a backpack with water, and walk walk walk. Enjoy,
