Okay, I've only been to the Underground for pub purposes once. Other than that, I've only ever been for metal shows and other entertainment. I have to say that it works great both ways!
The Underground is exactly that, under ground! It is located right underneath the Warehouse; the club infamous for after hours. The one and only time I visited the Underground to just drink and chat with friends, one of the bartenders brought me and my friends upstairs afterwards. That's right, we got into the Warehouse free of charge and without standing in a ridiculously long line. It rocked!
The other couple of times I've been to the Underground have been for concerts and shows. I attended Demonika's Symphony of Horrors 3, which was a little scary, but still pretty cool. That show took place in the Underground as well as the Warehouse, so you were able to walk freely between the two. I've also seen a few metal shows at the Underground which were all pretty rocking. The sound isn't the best down there, and it's usually for small-time gigs, but the bands were awesome and the crowd was alive.
The only real downfall of the Underground is you need a membership to party there. They are available for purchase any time at a cost of $10. The perks of the membership are endless; extended happy hour, discount on cover charges and more. Fear not, if you don't have a card, you are allowed access if you're an invited guest of a card holder. That makes it a little better, I suppose.
I try to go to as many shows in the Underground as I can, and you don't need a membership as long as you have a ticket. I love the intimacy of the place when bands are playing. You're never too far away from the band, and you will always have good vision, no matter where you are in the bar. This place totally kicks ass for shows because it's 18+ only and the booze isn't terribly expensive.
When I think of the Underground, I think of wicked shows and good times. If you're a metal-head and you haven't been to the Underground yet, well, shame on you! If you're not a metal-head this place may be a bit extreme for you... not to mention probably way too loud! -

Well, I'm playing here this upcoming Friday, so I'll be able to offer more information about their sound system after I've rocked it a little. But I have been here before for many events. The place is directly underneath the Warehouse. Of course, both of these bars have been around since the dawn of time, ravers preferring the Warehouse and rockers preferring the Underground.
Mostly, they book punk rock groups, but are known to snag a major headliner every now and again (especially bigger punk and indie groups). The beer is as cheap as their cover, which isn't much. The staff are scenesters, but totally awesome and have been in the business for a long time. I dig the Underground. Go here to catch some really screaming live tunes.
