Review from Lacey H.
There aren't many situations that make me feel like having kids is a fun idea, save for going into stores that have wicked gear for tots. At least if I decided to buy toys and actually had a kid, I'd be able to say "it's for the kid" instead of just being some strange adult with a hankering for stuffed animals that look like monsters.
This shop is the "bomb" in cool kids' jazz - with cool products that you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere in the city. Like Zoobies - it's a stuffed animal, a blanket and a pillow all in one! Yes! You can also find cool handmade toys, created with care using sustainable materials! Double Yes!
You'll find great props at Uncommon Kids for those preparing to have a kiddie of their very own, like diaper bags and other essentials. The prices are of the boutique variety, so don't expect Walmart deals. But at least you can buy with the confidence that many of the goods are enviro-conscious and sourced with care.
This is a two-thumbs up kind of place. Head in to buy a little tyke in your life a goody that is sure to please. -

This is a cute little store with quite a bit to offer. They have a range of items for children from infancy up to school age, and these are not the quality of toys you will find at your local Wal-Mart (which, believe me, is a good thing). There is a little bit of everything here, from books, to puzzles, to science experiments, to beading sets, to cars and trucks, to blocks, to...whew! I could go on but since you most likely don't want to be reading this for the rest of the day, I will digress...
Suffice to say, there is a lot of variety here, some items that are educational and some that are just plain fun (not that educational can't also be fun! But maybe that's the teacher in me talking...). Many of the items are made from natural materials such as wood, and will likely last much longer and provide much more enjoyment for the wee ones in your life than most of the other plastic, made-to-be-broken toys available at other stores.
Prices can be a bit higher than you might be used to, but the quality is also higher, and much more unique, so you are getting what you pay for.Listed in: Wee Wonders

Fortunately for me, I have cousins that are 5 and 3 so in recent years I've been able to pass off the occasional shopping trip to baby/kids shops without freaking the bejusus out of Mark.
I have found that kids shops can err on the side of being sort of lame. Often there is a vast array of baby clothes/items and then the focus jumps to things like craft books for children 8+. That's a pretty large age window, especially for the two inquisitive little boys that I have in mind.
I was therefore pleasantly surprised to pop into Uncommon Kids today and find a vast array of awesome kids games, projects, puzzles, books, learning tools, etc. I will definitely be back to purchase a couple of the 'Green Science' projects. This company designs lab projects all aimed at teaching children about, you guessed it, green science! Here's a list of some of the projects that Uncommon Kids carries: The windmill generator, potato clocks, soda can robug as well as the dynamo torch. Talk about cool toys! Uncommon Kids also carries neat items like electric canons as well as electric dragster car kits. The volcano kit also looked particularly fun!
Uncommon Kids also has books for industrious Dad's and Mom's, flash cards, toy trucks and tractors that come assembled as well as unassembled. There were also products for new parents too. I was very impressed to find this kids shop hidden deep in the south end. Uncommon Kids clearly goes out of their way to carry active learning tools and games that will keep even the busiest kids interested! I'll be back to this shop for some Christmas gifts, that's for sure!Listed in: Beat the Holiday Scramble!

Uncommon Kids is a smart little shop where sustainable design meets functionability. New and innovative creations are centered on the needs of young ones, and a simple walk through will undoubtedly demonstrate its unique appeal.
Cool kiddies everywhere can stay cutting edge with the types of items sold here. Product here seems efficient in every possible way; besides being clean and crisp visually, designs are evolved and new forthcoming.
Anything from baby accessories to toys and games can be found here, and its a perfect place for gifts. Find new and different items that stray away from the same old thing. Uncommon Kids is an encouraging platform for new and smart designs, and its great to see the kiddies able to enjoy. Forward thinking and high quality product make UK a spot worth going. -

I enjoy shopping for baby stuff, and I don't even have babies. Sometimes I even give the stuff I buy in these shops to people who do have babies. Other times, maybe not.
Anyway, this shop has a great selection of toys, games, diaper bags, baby blankets, books and all the other gewgaws that go with pampering kids, from infants to toddlers and maybe a bit beyond.
I may not be up on the hottest baby gear on the market, but it seems to me there are lots of new and interesting things here, if you're shopping for a shower gift or something for new parents.
Prices seem to be a little higher than the average department store (which makes sense, given that this is a small independent store) but there's lots of selection and the helpful clerk can help you find something interesting and age-appropriate. -

Uncommon Kids is a pretty solid little toy store for parents who don't want their children growing up with Bratz dolls.
The store features a lot of really great books, crafts, games and stuffed animals for kids and gear for moms and dads to lug around (strollers, diaper bags, etc.) as well. I don't own a child, but I know a few and they always seem to get really excited about the toys in Uncommon Kids, which I guess is as good a recommendation as anything I could mention.
I will say that things seem really expensive in this store, but that may just be my ignorant, non baby having opinion. Even with the extra price, I think it's probably important that kids get back to playing with toys like this as opposed the latest Barbie (Which I believe is "Stripper Pole Barbie," now with stripper pole and belligerent Ken Doll!)
Seriously, if you're a parent you owe it to your kid to check this place out. -

This is a pretty awesome store if you have young ones. The carry a great selection for parents to grab some neat things, keep in mind you will not be paying bottom prices.
In this store you will get what you pay for, great items, unique and quality.
I love stores like this. It is a great place to stop by and have a look.
