I love places like Uncle Ed's - restaurants that serve great food, with unpretentious service (and patrons!) and ambiance like your Baba's kitchen.

The menu is vast, with many different combo plates that include perogies, cabbage rolls, sausage, cheese buns, cheese crepes, ribs, pork chops and meatballs. They have borscht, burgers, kids plates and a seniors menu. I always get a perogie plate and add some sausage on the side. There is so much food on these plates, I rarely finish everything. The perogies and sausage are my favourite. You have the choice of sweet or sour cabbage rolls - I've had both and find them to be fairly similar and not too exciting. The borscht is a nice way to start your meal. I always find it hilarious how much sour cream they bring to the table. I've also tried bites of the ribs - yum! - and the meatballs with mushroom sauce - pretty good!

If you want a good old fashioned Ukrainian meal with good old fashioned Ukrainians, go here! I definitely make a visit when I feel my Ukrainian side calling to me! Make sure to stop by the attached store to pick up some perogies for home.

They close early at 7pm, and are closed on Sundays.

Ukrainian foods very reminiscent of small town church suppers - nothing fancy, but pretty good.  Prices are very reasonable and the service is usually quick.

They are not open Sundays and close at 7 p.m.

I've been here a few times and always had the same thing each time - the rib plate which comes with perogies, cheese buns and crepes. I loved it the first time and gone with it every other time I've been there.

The ribs are very tender and with all the sides, it's quite the meal, especially for $10.25. I really enjoy the perogies, crepes and cheese buns. I tried the sour cabbage rolls last time, as I found the sweet ones a little boring. They were better.

I've always left full, satisfied and didn't really have to spend much. If you're under 50, you're probably bringing the average age of the joint down by quite a bit, but that's fine by me. As they seem to cater to an older crowd, they also close early, at 7 p.m.

If you want a great meal in a down-to-earth atmosphere that isn't too hard on your wallet, it would be tough to find a better place than Uncle Ed's.

Our family has eaten a few times here. If you are looking for an authentic ukranian meal then this is the place to be! I find ukranian food to be a little heavy and fatty, so I only eat it on occasion. Since this restaurant moved from it's original location a few years ago, it's a lot roomier and a nicer atmosphere. The food is quite good, service is quick and staff is fairly friendly. I really like that the Mundare sausage house is attached, which is always a must-the kubasa and pierogies are the best! I also enjoy the great selection of Jam lady products. The relishes are amazing!
Beware the lunch time rush and early closing-not really geared for supper.

Uncle Ed's is a great place if you have a hankering for Ukrainian food.  They have an authentic, extensive menu, and its all Stawnichy's meat.  I suggest trying the smoked pork chop, over the standard kubasa - you won't be sorry.
The prices are reasonable, and the servers are always willing to substitute (no cabbage rolls, extra perogies please), and even let you order off the senior's menu, when you are still years away from that distinction.
My only complaint is that the perogies (which is what I am usually hankering) are often hit and miss.  The taste is always good, but are often dried out and tough/chewy.  I don't know if they make a bunch ahead of time and then reheat, but its not unusual to have yummy, tender perogies, and chewy, dried out perogies on the same plate.  Thankfully they are all coated in butter, onions and bacon.
All in all, its a perfectly acceptable place to go when you can't count on Baba.

Great Ukranian food - love the borscht (very beety). They close early (7PM) so go there for an early supper. Definately Baba & Gido friendly.

We have been here several times throughout the years and the entire family loves it.  Its just like sitting down in Baba's kitchen.  The food store on the other side is fantastic as well.  In my opinion they make the best garlic sausage in Canada.  Prices are fantastic, food is great, you gotta go.

I grew up on my grandmother's home cooked Ukrainian food - and this is where I go when in Edmonton to eat equally good authentic Ukrainian home cooking. You can even see the lady's in the back kitchen putting TLC into each perogy they make....just like my grandma used to do. (It helps that there is a large dollop of sauteed onions and bacon covered with sour cream...)
