Review from Herman E.
Part II
Made it today for what is called an Opera Tea series that is put on by UBC Opera. The performance was excerpts Dvorak's Rusalka. This was my first exposure to a Czech opera. It was quite enjoyable. The majority of the crowd was grey haired and shiny back of heads. =)
The venue was exactly as expected. Beautifully restored keeping much of the original materials as possible. The windows were even given a double pane, without removing the original glass. The acoustics were wonderful. Plenty of leg room between the rows of chairs.
Quite honestly, if I were to see any opera, I would choose this place for its intimacy and surroundings. I found that the voices of the singers carried much better than at the QE Theatre because of its smaller size.
I explored the building and Yum Yum's is now gone and replaced with a hall called Irving Guttman Hall. They served refreshments in the hall (coffee, tea and snacks) as part of the Opera Tea. Coffee was the pits.Listed in: Hollywood North
