The farm is so magical.  Sure, the market might have a couple of hinks (inexperienced volunteers, it's a trek to get out here, parking can be a zoo) but it more than makes up for it with heart and soul. Little families wandering around looking at the livestock, a jazz band playing, wildlife hanging out in the trees...  It really is a little slice of heaven.

Yes, you have to get there early for the best selection, but there is a certain charm to the market after the initial rush.  You might not have as much produce, but you have time to take it all in.  Buy some olives and bread and have a little picnic, or bring the family and take a farm tour.

Do you want to buy some of the freshest tasting locally grown vegetables, herbs, and fruits?

If you answered, "yes", you can do most of your shopping at UBC Farm Market.

UBC Farm Market is really special because it's located on a University campus, yet it feels like it's in the middle of nowhere in a rural farming town - it's amazing as you don't hear traffic whatsoever, except for the cars going and out the market.  It's minutes away from the University gates if you're driving; there is no bus service near the farm, so a car is recommend for the method of transportation if you're in a hurry.

It's a great place to take the kids as there are chickens, cows, and bee hives on the farm. There is a lot of walking and exploring for adults too. The farm is 24 hectare in size! Last year, there were over 200 variety of vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers grown on the farm. You can even buy free range eggs too.

UBC Farm Market is open during the months of June to October on Saturdays - 9am to 1pm. Everything sold at the market from the actual farm at UBC is organic too. The items are usually picked one day before or on the day of the market day.

I must remember to wake up earlier! The eggs were sold out at 9:18 this morning!

My first time at the market this year and my-oh-my how happy the market makes me! It's early in the season so there is not as much selection, but I still managed to fill my fridge with produce I have never tried like Jerusalem artichoke and garlic stems.

Bigger than last year, the UBC Saturday market had folk music playing, and 4-6 other stalls set up! Horray!

Want to be first in? I'd suggest getting there by 8:30-8:45 just in case those eggs run out again!

Fantastic resource for the absolute best quality produce available.  The eggs in particular are absolutely phenomenal: rich, creamy, dark yellow yolks that just beg for buttered toast to sop up all that goodness. Plus, you can see how the chickens are raised first-hand, so you know they're treated very well and are happy. Happy chickens = good eggs!

Vancouver has an absolute treasure on its hand with the UBC Farm; many cities all over the world would love to have a fully-functional, productive and beautiful farm like the one UBC has. It's an incredible resource that's threatened by the greed and shortsightedness of UBC, which seeks to pave over the farm with condo and housing developments.  Sadly, if this gem isn't constantly protected from development, Vancouver may not know what it's got 'til it's gone.

UBC farm is an absolute treasure for Vancouver. It is threatened to be destroyed right now due to the ever expanding luxury condos of UBC properties. Please support the farm any way you can.
The produce all summer and into the fall is so fresh, and literally right outta the ground.

Everytime I am eagerly waiting in line on an early Saturday morning, I can't help but wonder why they don't sell the coffee and treats outside the market to the hoards of people waiting in line??? Because, by the time they let you in, know one is stopping to buy java. If you take your eyes off those beets, they're gonna vanish.  Just a thought!

Saturday mornings at the farm -- there's nothing better than this.

My boyfriend and I went a couple weeks ago when we were up at UBC to see the botanical gardens. The sign for the market was still up, so we decided to check it out. Totally worth it. We got some delicious Swiss chard for dinner, and I got to have a gorgeous gluten-free cookie. Mmhmm.

The UBC farm also sells produce on Wednesdays in the summer -- 11:30 - 1:30, but like at the regular market, they sell out fast. I picked up some amazing raspberries and lettuce today, and was seriously tempted by their beets.

I love this market, and the eggs are the best i've ever had!
This farm is tucked away on UBC campus and many students have never even been here, but it's totally worth the trek. Getting here by bus will be a bit tricky and you will have a bit of a walk, but if it's a nice day, all the better.
I like going on my bike and since I have a basket on the back, I can fill it with delicious, organic, fresh produce. Their selection varies as the season progresses, but it's definitely worth a visit. Plus, it's a great place for families and kids too!

We need to save the farm ! Awesome fresh veggies and fruits, occasional farm eggs.... Bees.... It's an oasis in the middle of a rapidly developing campus being sold of parcel- by- parcel by the uni to developers....

In the summer, get there early and prepare to sharpen your elbow(s) for the strawbs.....

    Field of Feast....

What else is there not to like ! It's awesome and it needs to stay !

The UBC Farm is probably one of my favourite things about summer in Vancouver! It's like a mini-vacation to a simpler time and place and much more fun than shopping at a big box grocery store. I can't wait to dig into my carrots, celebration squash, summer squash, kale, swiss chard, potatoes, corn, garlic, and eggs.

This review is for the Wednesday market, which takes place under the big tree in front of the UBC Bookstore each Wednesday between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm during the summer/early fall.  The friendly happy people sell a nice selection of fresh organic produce, herbs, fruit, and flowers grown on the UBC Farm.  Today I purchased their salad greens mix and some garlic scapes.  There are usually a few interesting items that I've not tried before and they usually have good suggestions on how they could be prepared/cooked.  Today was the scapes, and as I write this I have just finished eating them (sautéed in oil with a little salt and pepper), yummy mild garliciness, and am wondering how strong my garlic breath will be in the morning.  Each week is different as the different crops mature throughout the season.  I definitely try to pick something up each week if I make it in time.  I haven't been to their Saturday market, which is down on the farm itself.  Cash only.
