We recently located from some distance away to Ottawa. Since we were footing the bill and had a U.S. Canada border crossing, also had restrictions on what moving services we could use. U-Haul ended up being the *only* you-pack and load, we transport it option we could find, with their U-box service. Conceptually fantastic.
The U.S. side of things went very well - everyone was great, they knew what they were doing etc. We were told our u-Boxes would be delivered to this location, no problem - and that they would be stored in-doors on that end. Oh yeah - we also rented a tow trailer to bring up some items with us.
We arrive in Ottawa and go immediately to this location to drop off the trailer, rent indoor storage and generally get familiar with where our household contents are going to be.
It happened to be a busy weekend - Labor Day. The yard was chaotic. I was positive our vehicle would get dinged in the lot. There was no traffic flow, just a bunch of yard guys all doing their own thing, moving trucks, trailers and cars around to meet their own needs at the moment. This was Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday morning, we went back to convert trailer (stored overnight) to storage. We got there at opening time and spent 45 minutes in line. During that time another customer came in *very* upset that he was blocked in. He tried to get help from yard staff, desk staff, but finally ended up barking at some poor female customer that she needed to move her f'n car, or he was going to ram into it. (Grow up dude! Not that woman's fault!) While this was going on, and associate walked within 2 feet of the altercation and did *nothing* about it - just pretended nothing was going on.
So we get thru that mess, unload trailer into storage, and leave. 2 days later get missing equipment notification. Argh.
Our u-boxes arrive - drive by, stored outside, uncovered. Ask if they will be covered - "oh yes, before we leave tonight". Ok. Drive by next day, after a night of rain... uncovered. Glad I bought insurance and I hope nothing that is irreplacable is ruined - but I'm not hopeful.
Complained. Manager focused on security aspect of my complaint, and did not really listen to the main thrust of my complaint, that my items were being stored outside, uncovered. (U-Boxes are advertised as stored indoors.)
So - all in all, our dealings with this place have sucked. While u-haul in some areas seems to be ok, we do *not* recommend this particular location. (There are other problems I'm not even getting into here.)
Recommend: No
Return: Only until I can get my stuff out of their lot - then never after. We will (based on our U.S. dealings try one of the other locations in our city.)
